SEASAC Girls Basketball @ RIS
Feb 1-3, 2013
Ruamrudee
International
School
It is with great pleasure that I welcome all participants and coaches to this
year’s SEASAC Girls Basketball Championships. Our entire school
community anticipates a great tournament and hopes that all involved
have an absolutely fantastic experience this weekend. We look
forward to well played, competitive games embracing the spirit of good
sportsmanship so essential to SEASAC. If you get a chance please take
the opportunity to tour our newly refurbished campus. We think that our
facilities are some of the finest in Bangkok and we are excited at
the opportunity to share them with the member schools of SEASAC.
Head of School
I would like to thank all involved for the enormous amount of effort
required to organize this prestigious event. I'm sure it will be a huge
success. Good luck and have a great weekend in Bangkok!
Dr. Peter M. Toscano
Best Wishes,
Peter...
Mr. Eric Monson
High School Principal
I would first like to welcome the players, coaches, and parents from all
thirteen SEASAC member schools. SEASAC tournaments are a great way to
close out a season and celebrate competition at a high level. Your
participation in this event is appreciated and I want to wish you all the best of
luck. Participation in extra-curricular activities and athletics has been proven
to be the best indicator of success later in life. Your participation, combined
with the rigorous course load taken by students at International schools, really
sets you apart from other students around the world. I would like to
congratulate you on your decision to take part in activities/athletics, your
dedication to your teammates and the sport of basketball, and your future
successes. You are already champions! As you compete against your
opponents, give it your best effort. Some will win and others will lose, but if
you compete with good character, demonstrating positive sportsmanship, and
giving 100%, you can walk off the court with your head held high. Take a
moment to Google THE MAN IN THE ARENA an excerpt from the speech
"Citizenship In A Republic" delivered at the Sorbonne, in Paris, France on 23
April, 1910 by President Theodore Roosevelt. Winning is really not the prize
in sport. How we competed and how we look back at our own performance is
really what matters in competition. We will get beat by teams better than us,
or beat teams of lesser ability. We measure success by the scoreboard, when
really we should measure success by giving our best to help our team achieve.
I hope you can look back after this SEASAC event and realize you have all
been successful contributors to your team’s success.
Gerry Steiert
Athletics Director
Welcome to the 2013 version of the SEASAC Girls Basketball
Championships. We have 12 teams ready to engage in 42 games so
we are guaranteed to witness some interesting match-ups.
Basketball is certainly one of my favorite sports and also one that I
have coached for many years so I am really looking forward to
catching as many games as possible. It is my sincere wish that you
are able to enjoy a wonderful experience here in Bangkok
throughout the duration of this year’s competition. In addition to
dedication, determination and desire I hope that students and
coaches will have some fun and enjoy the social aspect which is so
important. Big thanks to Joei my Athletics Assistant and to my
wife Beth for their countless hours preparing for this event.
Have fun and enjoy your weekend!

jump ball. If the game is still tied after the over-time period, additional two

minute period beginning with a jump-ball) will continue until there is a
clear winner.

8. Tournament Tie-Breakers

SEASAC Coach’s Code of Conduct
Each Coach Shall:
Abide by the content and intent of the SEASAC Constitution, Handbook,
Playing Regulations and Appendices and should accept and support the rules
governing the sport and those responsible for administering the rules.
Prepare participants with regard to the behavior expected of them at a SEASAC
event.
Cooperate with fellow coaches, tournament directors, officials and student
minor officials in the performance of their duties.
Exemplify ethical behaviors, including honesty, integrity, fair play and
sportsmanship.
Be generous in winning and graceful in losing.
Refrain from humiliating other teams either verbally or through results on the
playing surface - winning is desirable but to win at any cost defeats the purpose
of the game and is in conflict with the spirit of fellowship at SEASAC events.
Accept responsibility for the conduct of his/her athletes and discourage
inappropriate behavior in competition and while at or away from the sporting
venue.
Understand that obscenities, trash talk or other forms of verbal abuse from a
coach or player directed at coaches, officials, players or spectators are not
acceptable behaviors in SEASAC competition.
Keep his/her coaching function in proper personal and professional perspective.
