ardiff’s a fantastic city, but isn’t it nice to
get out and about into some of the great
countryside that’s right on our doorstep,
like the spectacular Brecon Beacons?
Our Sunday bus service is an ideal way to get
there, whether you fancy a good walk in the hills,
a hike up to the top of Corn Du or Pen y fan,
a cycle ride in some stunning scenery
or just enjoying a bit
of sightseeing.
Brecon
This Welsh market town with Georgian architecture,
a fine cathedral and two interesting museums is full of charm.
There are cafés and teashops and it’s well worth checking out
the range of galleries and independent retailers that form the
Artbeat Trail. And you really can’t not try the local ice-cream
made by Llanfaes Dairy - delicious!
And why not go for a relaxing canal cruise with Dragonfly
Cruises. The two and a half hour round trip,
which includes going through a lock and
across an aqueduct, leaves at noon.

Tretower Castle
Built over 900 years ago but altered over the centuries,
Tretower Court and Castle was once intended to impress.
You can see a suite of rooms as they may have been in
1470 when the Vaughans who lived there were part
of high society.
On Sundays in June you can enjoy an
interesting herbal tour and talk in the
beautiful medieval garden.

Storey Arms
This is an ideal starting point for a walk right up to the top
of the Beacons. It’s not difficult but it is steep in places
and the path can be a bit rough here and there, so check
that you’re fit enough. Allow up to about 5-6 hours and
make sure you have good shoes, adequate weather
protection and water to drink.
If visibility is good, the views on the way and especially
from the top are nothing less than breathtaking!

Abergavenny
With a distinctive town hall,
well-preserved example of a
motte-and-bailey castle and lovely
old streets to explore, Abergavenny is
an interesting town to visit. And the scenery
on the way and back is gorgeous.
Sunday 21 September is the last day of the Abergavenny Food
Festival, celebrating the best in food from the farm, from local
producers and from the kitchen - as the Observer put it,
“the Glastonbury of food festivals.”
There are some great cycle rides in and around the
Brecon Beacons and, thanks to the special
secure trailer attached to the bus,
you can bring your bike with you.
Please be at the stop 15 mins
before the bus leaves.
