COMMERCE ANNUAL BANQUET
FEBRUARY 16, 2015
MarchApril2015
State Representative Clarice NavarroRatzlaff & Penrose Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bill McGuire
presented Jeannie Melcher the greatest
honor of the evening with the Citizen of
the Year award. You deserve it, Jeannie!
The Penrose Chamber of Commerce
held their Annual Banquet Monday,
February 16, 2015 at the Gooseberry
Patch Restaurant. Social time began at
6 pm, dinner at 7 pm, & the special
awards followed the dinner. We also
had great door prizes that were given
away. We had 103 people who attended, not bad since our weather wasn’t good that night. We always have a
fun time at our banquets. Black Hills
Energy’s Corporate table took away
most of the door prizes so they left extremely happy! They were the life of
the party for all of us.

The Penrose Chamber of Commerce met
for breakfast at the Penrose Community/

want to thank the Seniors for allowing us
to meet at their facility & preparing a
lovely breakfast of Quiche & a great selection of special breads, along with the
coffee. If you haven’t been able to come
out to the Senior Center for breakfast,
give it a try. The cost is $5.
Mark Phillips, President of the Penrose
Chamber of Commerce gave a rundown
of the new slate of officers for the Chamber. Mark is newly elected President,
Calvin Sunderman is Vice-President,
Steve Shannon is the new Treasurer, &
Misty Dawn is Secretary & Office Manager. Bill McGuire stayed on as Executive Director.
Calvin Sunderman representing the Penrose Volunteer Fire Dept. said they had
at least 500 calls a month for our local
Fire Department. Calvin wanted to remind everyone to check out their Carbon
Monoxide Detectors as well as the Fire
Alarms. Calvin said a lot of their calls
have proven to be CMO related. If you
have your detectors go off, immediately
go outside & call the local Fire Dept. to
come & check if you’re getting CMO
into your house.
Mission Ready Tree Service is the name
of Earl Perry’s business. He has the
equipment to do anything you need done
along that line. Earl is also on the Penrose Chamber of Commerce board. For

He brought out a survey form that lets
the employers of businesses answer the
questions & return to the Workforce.
This survey will let them know if you,
the business employer, will be interested
in holding a Job Fair in Fremont County
& if you have job opportunities within
your company to employ people to work
for you. (next column)
www.penrosechamber.com
If you wish to participate in the Job
Fair, please take time & fill out the
survey. You can pick the forms up at
Colorado Workforce Center. Call 719275-7408. You can also pick them up

County Commissioner Debbie Bell said
they had their 1st special meeting to
hear about the latest marijuana businesses applying for permits to do businesses here in Fremont County. One
business was denied from getting a
permit, 3 were allowed to have permits.
The County Commissioners will have a
public hearing on the marijuana business that wants to have a business at
the Apple Shed in Penrose. This hearing will go through all of the process
that the business shows & the accountability that they plan. There will be
notifications of actual dates & times of
this hearing. If you have letters or emails to bring to the County Commissioners, please get them in soon so they
have time to consider your request or
concern. The Fremont County Commissioners will be having a goal setting
workshop session. They hope their effort will be a good chance to show accountability for where they are going &
will define all County Employee’s
work & how their money will be spent.
The report will be available to the citizens of Fremont County when every
part of the workshop & report is complete.
Nicole of Habitat for Humanity was

Nicole said Habitat for Humanity are
currently making plans to build 2 more
homes in Fremont County for families

for Humanity Restore & encouraged all

where to go. You can also donate
building supplies or shop repair items

cheaper price. They have a lot of new
items coming into the Restore. For

Article Content: 2015 Summer Reading
Program at the Penrose Community Library
Title: Every Hero Has a Story
This summer, we will celebrate the many
heroes of our past, present and current
imaginations. The Penrose Community
Library’s book shelves are full of outstanding fiction and nonfiction books
about heroes of all kinds. From the
youngest child to the strongest, mightiest
crusader, each and every hero has his or
her own story to tell, and some of those
stories will be told this summer. Children will be encouraged to discover the
superheroes within themselves as they
attend the Penrose Community Library’s
Summer Reading Program during the
months of June and July. Among the
heroic guest that will visit the library are,
Penrose Volunteer Fire Department,
Florence Police K-9 Unit and Cheyenne
Mountain Zoo’s Animals with Superhero
Powers. A special entertainer, Wayne
and his life-sized ventriloquist dummy
Wingnut, will delight and thrill the children with his tall tales, funny voices and
comedy show entitled “Be Someone’s
Hero”. Kids will be encouraged to read
15 hours during the six week event and
turn in their Reading Log for a colorful
“Every Hero Has a Story” tee-shirt. Registration and details of this summer’s
heroic guests and events will be available
at the Penrose Community Library during the last week of May.
