A group of interested citizens recently decided to
establish a new newspaper titled, "Fremont
County Crusader." After working on it several
months, our first edition will be out the week of
Oct. 12th. It will consist of local articles, photographs, editorials on local, state and national
politics. The inaugural edition will be available at
our office at 3365 U.S. 50 or by calling 719-3453333.
Our mission statement is "The Fremont County
Crusader is committed to providing local news,
international and educational observations on
current, local, state and national events; to present Constitutional viewpoints to Fremont
County and surrounding communities.
The Crusader will reflect pride in our students,
schools, religions, veterans, military, local police,
farmers, ranchers, citizens and business owners.
To inspire Americans to recover our country's
greatness and to hold fast our belief in the Constitution of the United States of America."
We also know "Freedom is a gift from God, not
granted to us by politicians or governments.
Freedom demands responsible behavior of all,
consistent with the truths expressed in the great
moral and governing guides, such as the Ten
Commandments, Declaration of Independence,
the United States Constitution and the Bill of
Rights. These principles guided our founding
fathers and are still relevant. They are the principles that will guide our reporting and are the
basis of our views.
We will not be constrained by the illogical, misleading and inaccurate thinking and the use of
"political correctness." We will be guided by
truth, facts, logic and common sense.
Our focus will be on the four pillars that our
founding fathers said were essential for maintaining our constitutional republic. These pillars are
education (and family), religion, legal and military. The past few generations we have seen an
erosion of these pillars by various groups, organizations and individuals creating problems for
"We the People."
Our intent is to provide guidance to identify that
root cause of these problems and suggest ways to
deal with them."

Breakfast Meeting

Coyote’s Coffee Den
Penrose Chamber of Commerce President Calvin
Sundermann welcomed 18 members and guests to the
patio at Coyote’s Coffee Den. He began the introductions with a recap of the activity at the Penrose Volunteer Fire Department. Calvin reported that overall it
had been a busy year and the summer was no exception. He said the department had 7 calls in the 24
hours prior to the breakfast meeting.
Calvin also reported on the Barn Dance that was held
at Pioneer Park on August 7. He said it was a big
success and that the Chamber made around $146.00
selling hot corn on the cob and slices of pie. Calvin
purchased a case of corn for the event and Barbara
and Tim Martin of the Gooseberry Patch restaurant
provided the wonderful homemade blueberry, apple
and lemon meringue pies. Thanks to Calvin and the
Gooseberry Patch for their support of the Chamber!
Andrea Porter of C’3 Colorado Springs attended the
breakfast, She is new to the area and announced that
their business hopes to have an open house in the near
future. They are a dispensary of medical marijuana
products.
Tammy Mundy represented the Penrose Parks and
Recreation Department and the Penrose Community
Library. The library offers movie nights and all are
welcome, call to get a schedule of movie nights. She
also reported that the Park District had received a
grant for $15,000 to be used for new playground
equipment. It is a matching funds grant for up to
$24,000 and they have until July 29, 2016 to match
the funds. They are also hosting a BBQ to celebrate
the kids going back to school on September 5, from 4
– 7 pm. Park elections are coming up soon to elect
new officers. She encouraged people to attend meetings and vote.
Susan Hildebrandt announced she is running for the
RE-2 School Board. Elections are November 3 and
she encouraged everyone to get involved and vote.
Rich Hildebrandt from the Penrose Water District
updated us on the pipeline project and reported that
the damage on 3rd Street from the leak had been repaired. They are rejuvenating the area where the wells
are with native grasses and hope the area can be sustained without irrigation. The pipeline was put in to
be a back up supply to the Penrose Water District.
Jerome Townsend of the Canon City Workforce Center said that there are currently 240 jobs listed at their
facility. Jobs are listed online,. and can be applied for
either online or in person at the Workforce Center.
Marlowe Cassetti was in attendance representing the
Sons of Italy. They are having their annual Italian
Festival September 10. There will be food, entertainment and dancing. They will have their Italian spaghetti dinner October 11 at the Florence Elks Club.

John Emmerling announced he is publishing a
new paper, The Fremont County Crusader. It is a
weekly paper beginning the third Saturday in
September. An open house for The Crusader was
held August 29th at their location near the ENXX
Propane facility in Canon City. They have a full
staff of printing and layout design personnel along with writers. The paper focuses on
truthful reporting and freedom on God based
principles.
Steve Shannon announced the Senior Center
offers lunch for $3.00 Tuesday and Thursday.
They appreciate calls if you are coming for lunch.
He said their recent rummage sale was a success.hey have a thrift store that is open Tuesday
and Thursday and one Saturday a month. They
will also have food and other items available for
sale on Apple Day. The phone number is 3723872.
Cheryl and Larry Dial announced the Air Show
at the Fremont County Airport on September 19.
There will be a pancake breakfast put on by the
Penrose Volunteer Fire Department.
It was good to see Bill Maguire back after breaking his arm. Bill thanked the Fire Department for
their quick response and transport to St Thomas
More for treatment.
Ione spoke on behalf of the Happy Apple Farm.
They are still selling a variety of apples. They
have blackberries that can be picked. There is a
charge for any produce or food, but you can visit
for free. Bring the kids and enjoy some time in
