in Cy-Fair
Keep Everyone Entertained with these Winners
Vacations are great for a week or two in the summer, but what do you do with the other 11 or 12 weeks? For Cy-Fair residents there’s
plenty to do in their own backyards (figuratively, of course). Check out our top 10 uniquely Cy-Fair activities that are guaranteed to
keep you and your family busy and having fun.
1
go to the tracks
While Sam Houston Race Park simulcasts
horse racing throughout the year, summer is
alive with live horse racing and family nights
that feature moonwalks, reduced concession
prices and sometimes a clown or two. Every
Friday and Saturday night there is live music
after the races. Elvis Night and Fourth of July
fireworks are just two of the annual
summer events.

get artsy
Nothing will get those creative juices flowing
like being an artist. Making arts and crafts
can be both fun and therapeutic. Several
Cypress locations offer summer camps or
classes sure to inspire creativity and fun. At
Arts of Glaze you will walk away with your
own piece of pottery. Summer camps are held
June through August, and items are available
starting at $10. The Artist Within fosters
people’s natural creativity by teaching art
techniques. Summer camps start the first full

Go See a Star
(at the movies)
With the proliferation of kid age movies released each summer, going to the see a movie is always a great way to spend
a hot afternoon. Most theatres offer matinee discounts and
some even offer lunch or dinner. Studio Movie Grill and
Willowbrook Movie Tavern have seating at tables where you
order food from a waiter and eat during the movie. Also check
out The Showboat Drive-In in Hockley for an in-car, drive-in
movie experience. And, there are always the old standby movie
theatres such as AMC Willowbrook and Cinemark.

Reading is fun
5
Read While you Relax
Reading can be done anywhere! Hang out
by your pool, curl up on the couch, or head
out to your local library for some summer
reading. The Harris County Library has three
branches right here in the Cy-Fair area that
offer book clubs, story times, and incentives to
get any reluctant reader to open a book. For a
listing of ongoing summer events, see page 18
in this issue of Cy-Fair Magazine.

take a hike
When you just can’t do another
indoor activity, head to one of
the local parks and take a hike,
bring a picnic lunch and relax
with nature. Cullen Park, Bear
Creek Park, Little Cypress Creek
Preserve, Telge Park and Burroughs Park are just a few of the
beautiful parks in the area.
