Research in the early part of the 21st century indicated that all sweet apples
arose originally in a small area of Tian Shan on Kazakhstan's border with China.
It is likely that they gradually spread into Europe through the Middle East and
several manuscripts from ancient Greece, including Homer's Odyssey, refer to
apples and describe apple orchards. There is evidence that apples grew wild in
Britain in the Neolithic period but it was the Romans who first introduced varieties with sweeter and greater taste. The earliest known mention of apples in
England was by King Alfred in about 885 AD.

potato, a variety
that originally hails from
Peru and Bolivia and brings to the table a
right royal pop of purple - beneath that
inky exterior lies rich violet flesh which
doesn’t fade when cooked. Vitelotte potatoes have a slightly nutty flavour that
works brilliantly in salads.

MAGNIFICENT
BELLA ITALIA
Just a small example of what we can
offer from Italy
It is easy to love good food, and Italians know a couple of things about
it. When you enjoy cooking, you become acquainted with ingredients
and flavours with a pleasurable delight; you get
to know how they mix with each other, which type of
scent their fragrance produce and how they will taste
once they touch your tongue. Italy is the very soul of
cooking and conviviality. Here we have some of the
most delicious Italian fresh produce of the season.
All Italian produce is getting better, Cime di Rapa, Catalogna and Puntarella are all good at the
moment.
Leaf Spinach, Swiss Chard, Leafy Celery, Radicchio Chioggia, Precoce and Castelfranco all
good quality.
The first of Radicchio Treviso Tardivo has arrived this week, a little dear but is this is to be
expected.
Bunch Rocket soon will be from the South as
the Northern areas are getting cold.
Bargamot Citrus and Leafy Lemons are
wonderful at this time of year.
