At the Library
West Nyack Free Library
Autumn 2015
Dear Library Patrons,
Gifts and Donations:
As we look to our library’s future, the 2017 budget
represents our continued commitment to providing
you with the library services and materials you have
come to expect. We are continuing to evolve our
programs and collections while going through the
strategic planning process to evaluate our place in
our Clarkstown community. Our physical facility
requires constant maintenance as we foresee
replacing major systems including the roof and
sprinkler system within the next 5 years. We’ve
managed to reduce insurance spending by being the
first library in the New York State Small Business
Healthcare Exchange for employee health insurance.
We continue to stay at the forefront of technology
by offering you online streaming services, ipads,
wireless printing and our brand new e-newsletter.
Please come support our library in our pledge to
continue to serve as a learning and education center
in the Clarkstown community. Our 2017 budget
hearing is on Tuesday, November 24 at 8pm at the
New City Library. Our budget vote is on December
9 from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Congratulations to all our
Summer Readers!
As the Children's Summer Reading Program
comes to a close we want to congratulate all of our
participants! Thank you for tracking your reading,
attending our programs and coming to the library
this summer.
Special thanks to the following groups for
supporting their local community library:
Friends of the West Nyack Library
Volunteers of the West Nyack Library
Mad Science of the Mid-Hudson
New City Fish and Game Club
The Cone Zone in West Nyack
Domino's Pizza in New City
A Note from the Circulation Desk:
Our library has had quite a “super” summer.
For adults, we offered workshops that taught such skills
as understanding wine, creating sea glass jewelry and
practicing tai chi. Fans of Mah Jong attended our classes
and can practice their skills at our open Game Club on
Mondays. Something new...we have added a Mah Jong
game set to our circulating items for all who would like to
play at home.
Our Easy Breezy book club had a great turnout with over
85 participants, including 3 gift card winners.
In the Children’s Library, the Summer Reading theme
was “Every Hero Has a Story.” We had weekly Storytime
in the Park with surprise visits from heroes in our
community such as the Rockland County Mounted Police,
members of the Nanuet Ambulance Corp and the
Clarkstown K9 unit. This was one of the programs that
highlighted superheroes and everyday heroes.
And the action wasn’t confined to West Nyack; our
books and movies joined library patrons on vacations all
around the globe!
Holy bestsellers, Batman! The West Nyack Free Library
sizzled this summer!
