HANDA CUP UPDATE
We would like to update the Old Waverly members on the Handa Cup event and our progress to date.
We also want to let you know what the membership can do to help the club succeed in meeting our goals
for the Handa Cup event.
Our various committees have been working hard to make this a great family oriented, fun filled golf
event and they are doing a great job. There just isn’t enough space in this article to describe all the details that are involved in
the organization of an event like this but I can tell you that everything is coming together nicely.
TWO CHARITIES have been selected:
• Sally Kate Winters Home in West Point
• North Mississippi Medical Center Foundation for Cancer (regional)
MAJOR SPONSORSHIPS were of course our top priority in the
first few months and I am happy to report that we have managed to
get wonderful support from several companies.
• Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi
• Mississippi Development Authority
• Renasant Bank
• Yokohama Tire Corporation
• Several other commitments are on the horizon
BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF MISSISSIPPI will sponsor the ProAm event on Friday the 26th. The Pro-Am event is virtually SOLD
OUT. The following is available:
• Two individual adult spots
• We need two sponsors for “Future Champions” (junior golf program)
Thank you to the companies and individuals that have bought
these teams.
THE FRIDAY NIGHT BBQ for the Legends players, Pro-Am participants, and VIP ticket holders will be sponsored collectively by:
• City of West Point
• Clay County
• West Point Growth Alliance
• LINK Trust
WHAT THE MEMBERSHIP CAN DO…We need to now concentrate on three things.
• Buy and Sell Tickets
• Buy Community Sponsorships
• Buy Advertisements in the Event Program
OUR GOAL NOW is to set an attendance record for a Legends Tour
Handa Cup event.
Old Waverly shocked the golfing world in 1999 by setting the attendance record for the Women’s U.S. Open and we can do it again.
• TICKETS are $10 per person per day.
• You can sell 10, 20, 50 or 100 tickets in your town. Help us out. Call
the Pro Shop.
COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIPS are $1,000 for small businesses
and individuals and receive:
• Recognition in Tournament Program
• Recognition on Tournament Sponsors Board
• 4 tickets for Saturday and Sunday
• 4 tickets for the Friday night BBQ
ADVERTISMENTS are also available in our Tournament Program.
• ¼ page $500
• ½ page $800
• Full page $1,500
• Inside Back Cover $2,000
TICKETS are now available at:
• oldwaverly.com/handacup
• thelegendstour.com
• Galloway Chandler & McKinney Insurance Offices
• Most Renasant Bank locations
• All Miskelly Furniture facilities in Jackson, MS.
• Old Waverly Golf Shop 662-494-8780
We hope that you will be a supporter of this event and Old Waverly.

Old Waverly Golf Shop employee James
Daniels is commended on his quick action and
training. Our employees are a big part of what
makes Old Waverly outstanding!
“My husband was playing tennis in the State
tennis tournament on Friday, April 25 at your
club and had a heart attack. Our family just
wants you to know how thankful we are that you
had a defibrillator at your club and that someone
that works there named James knew how to use
it. We realize that if you had not had one at your
club, we would not have someone that we love
very much still with us today! My husband remembers James working on him and will forever be grateful, as will all of us.
Again, we want to thank everyone there that helped save his life!
Sincerely,
Pat Nokes”
WELCOME ERIN ROBINSON TO
HORTICULTURE AT OLD WAVERLY!
Erin was born and raised in West Point, MS. After her
college years at Mississippi State, she flew the coop and set
out to explore. She landed in North Carolina. After several
years at a cubicle job in Chapel Hill and Wilmington, Erin
decided the outdoors of the mountains were calling. She relocated to the Blue Ridge mountains of Asheville, NC. She
spent her days as a Nursery/Greenhouse Specialist for Lowes’s Inc. and spent
her time off by hiking, kayaking, and climbing.
When asked what she enjoys most about horticulture, she says it’s experimenting with new plants and caring for them as they grow - crossing her
fingers that they will turn into something beautiful. As she was growing up,
her family always had a large garden and it was here Erin got her start. She
is thrilled to be a part of the Waverly team and brings with her over 8 years
experience in horticulture. Erin is excited to be back in West Point among
many friends and family.

MESSAGE FROM GEORGE SAVARDA
It is June and Old Waverly is buzzing with activity! The golf course
is full with tournament, golf groups and regular play while the pool
is overflowing with members, guests and children getting relief from
the long awaited heat and sun.
It is my hope that everyone is enjoying the fresh look of the pool
and the improved poolside food service with respect to both the
menu items offered and the expediency of delivery.
I would like everyone to rest assured that all lifeguards have been
certified in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR as well as in the use of an
AED (automated external defibrillator). Your safety is their number
one concern. On that note I would be remiss not to mention that
in late April, James Daniels, Golf Service Attendant, and member
Dr. Tommy Barkley successfully combined their efforts to respond
to and save an individual who suffered a heart attack while playing
tennis. By performing CPR and utilizing the AED, they brought back
this gentleman to later have surgery, thus saving his life. We have
recently purchased five AEDs and trained thirty staff members in
the use of the same. A trained individual will be on property 24/7.
Let’s make this a great summer of swim, golf, dining, fun, recreation and enjoyment.
As always, my door is open.
Regards,
George

NORTH SOUTH
STRUGGLE
A group of 20 friends
from all over the U.S.A. and
Canada (He has the maple
leaf on his slacks.) played
golf at the 11th Annual
North-South Struggle. It
was a Ryder Cup format
event. The South won! Lots
of fun was had by all!
CHANGE IS GOOD...RIGHT?
Our past hard winter took quite a toll on
our much loved Lavender Rose Garden. After
many discussions and consultations with rose
specialists and agronomists, the decision was
made to create a vegetable and herb garden.
The increased popularity of the “farm to table”
concept gave us an idea. We feel there is value in eating locally and we’ve started our Old
Waverly way. Come along the path through
the elaeagnus shrubs and have a peek at our
new beginning.
