What are the
eligibility requirements
for enrollment?
Law Enforcement Academy
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must pass the reading, writing and essay
portion of the Accuplacer test administered by
the Cedar Valley College Testing Center or
comparable exam.
Must pass a criminal background check,
physical drug screening test and
psychological exam.
Must have valid Texas driver’s license and
satisfactory driving record.

How do I become a
Peace Officer?
Flexibility - Part-time day and evening classes,
as well as full-time classes.
Special Agencies (Hospital District Police &
Campus Police Departments)
The Cedar Valley College Law Enforcement Academy
is a state licensed facility which offers both full-time
and part-time Basic Peace Officer courses.
This 720-hour course takes approximately six months
to complete as a full-time student, or nearly 11 months
to complete as a part-time student.
Law Enforcement Academy training at Cedar Valley
College is a disciplined program stressing academic
excellence, physical fitness, and the proper attitudes,
demeanor, ethics and values needed to become a
professional Peace Officer. Courses are taught by
current and retired police officers and other
professionals from across the Dallas-Fort Worth
metroplex.
What is their average salary?
Salaries for Texas Peace Officers range from the mid
$30’s to the low $50’s depending on the specific career
chosen and the city in which you work.

All course material is in accordance with the Texas
Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards
and Education (TCLEOSE). Students who complete all
course requirements are then eligible to take the
