in the Russian Federation, and also with similar federal programmes, counteraction on drug
use and its illegal circulation, physical education and children and youth health.
Equal opportunities for all, regardless of age and social status.
The tournament is completely amateur – professionals are not allowed.
Idea of organizing such a tournament
was born within Sport Express in 1999.
MISSION AND AIM OF THE TOURNAMENT
The main aim:
The main aim is stated in its motto : «Healthy backyard ! Healthy city ! Healthy country !»
Mission:
Preventive measures of negative effects in youth environment.
Finding of talented young footballers, popularization and development of football in Russia.
The return of legendary traditions of backyard football.
Since Sport Express was born on 14 August 1991, it has
not only been involved in making the best sports daily in the
country, but also in other projects. There are plenty of them,
but the Backyard Football Tournament ( BFT ), which is 10 years
old by now, is one of our beloved creations. BFT Finals are held
in Luzhniki stadium. Where else young footballers can get a
chance to play on the pitch of the main stadium of the country?
We actualized backyard football theme, organized it, and
as a result we got a unique tournament. With its help we decide
the strongest backyard football team of Moscow, Russia, and,
in the nearest future, of the world ! Frankly speaking, we adore
our BFT !
Let me welcome with all my heart the participants and
guests of the first International Backyard Football tournament
under the motto : «CHILDREN’S SPORT UNITED WORLD!»
Notably, this competition is held in international format.
I am confident that young footballers will long remember this
tournament as a bright festival that will become the basis for
their future progress in sports and a good support on their
course of life.
I’m sure that it is a good form of international sports
cooperation, significance of which grows instantly as a big
factor of consolidation of mutual understanding and trust in
modern international relations.
I wish all the participants a successful tournament and
a pleasant stay in Moscow, and all the fans – unforgettable

Backyard Football Tournament held by Sport Express is of
great significance for the development of professional sport. It
helps coaches to find new talent and prepare young succesors
for today’s generation of Russian footballers.
It’s important that this year Russian journalists’ initiative
was supported by international society, and attracted interest
from grown ups and children in Italy, France, Germany, England
and Israel – countries with rich football traditions.

INTERNATIONAL BFT
BACKYARD FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
(BFT). MOSCOW AND MOSCOW REGION
ALL RUSSIAN BFT
Since 1999 Sport Express organizes BFT in
Moscow and Moscow region. During 10
years of its existence more than 100,000
paricipants played in it. Games are held
in 6 leagues: junior (12-13yo), middle (1415yo), senior (16-17yo), adult (18+yo),
veteran (38+yo) and ladies league.
Junior league winners represent Moscow
in the All Russian BFT.
During 3 years of its existence, teams from 21
regions of Russia took part in it. All Russian
BFT Finals in junior league is held in Sochi.
Simultaneously with main participants of the
All Russian BFT, children from orphanages
and boarding schools compete in their
tournament within BFT.
All Russian BFT winner take part in
International BFT.
BFT winners often met with their
counterparts from other countries,
went to play friendlies to Italy and
played with Chelsea FC youth team
in London. In September 2009 Sport
Express organizes the I International
BFT under the motto «CHILDREN’S
SPORT UNITED WORLD!», where
participants from leading European
countries will take part. Tournament
will be held with the support from
Moscow
Government,
Russian
Football Union, FIFA and UEFA, and
from Embassies and national football
unions of countries-participants. As
a special format, football teams from
orphanages and children with limited
abilities on hearing and speech will
participate.
MOSCOW BFT
BACKYARD WITHOUT DRUGS
BFT Finals are traditionally held in Luzhniki stadium
during one day. 4 teams from each age and gender
groups compete.
Apart from winning teams, there are individual
winners in nominations : best goalkeeper,
defender, forward, goalscorer, penalty taker.
A mass sports competition, held by Sport Express
newspaper, is one of the jewels of youth sports season
in Russian capital, and it is made for active development
of backyard sport in our city. Moscow backyard football
in its modern stage helps to revive the traditions of the
past years, when many stars began their way to the glory
tops of world sports from backyard playgrounds.

ALL RUSSIAN BFT
HEALTHY BACKYARD! HEALTHY CITY! HEALTHY COUNTRY!
BFT, a Sport Express creation, has a massive support from Russian
society and state structures, including Moscow Government,
Russian Football Union and others. Vitaly Mutko : «I’d like to thank

It’s a game not only for professionals, but for everybody
who loves it.
FRIENDLY MATCH IN LONDON
In May 2005 the first All Russian School teams Final
was held, where 14 teams from different Russian
towns took part. All three league winners were
prized with the trip to London.
Middle league winners ( 14-15yo) played with their
counterparts from London in Luzhniki in October
2004, and won 2:1. In return match in London it
was 4:4.
I am very happy that this wonderful competition - the
Backyard Football Tournament – has now become international.
It’s such a joy to see children playing football!
Our thanks are due to the hosts – the Sport-Express daily
- for giving children from different countries and different
backgrounds this bright sports festival, dramatic emotions, a
feeling of carefree peaceful childhood in our turbulent times.
Our beautiful game helps kids to grow and develop. The game
has the power to play a central role in establishing friendships.
In children’s’ joys and triumphs, their pains and defeats, their
unexpected encounters and friendships, there is a great
opportunity for everyone to learn and bond with each other
in the neutral environment of sport. Football is hope, football
is emotions, and this is something that everybody needs, in all
parts of the world.
I always encourage people to play football, at any level
whatsoever, because, in addition to serving as a platform for
promoting fair play, equality, health and education for everyone.
Quite simply, football is a school of life – an educational tool that
I am certain each and every one of us can benefit from personally
– and especially the young boys and girls, as it is a perfect way to
nurture self-esteem and confidence!
I wish the participants of the First International Backyard
Soccer Tournament all the very best: the joy of the game and a

FRIENDLY MATCH IN ROME
In June 2007, Junior league united team had a
chance to get acquainted with the home country of one of the strongest football nations in the
world – Italy ! There they played with Roma FC
school team.
The game wasn’t that good for our team. Anyway, the
scoreline is not the most important thing. The main is
the following – contact between children from two
countries, of course ! The return match, we hope, will
be played at the first International BFT in Moscow.
I’m pleased to welcome again the participants of the Backyard
Football Tournament, which has now become international. UEFA has
made considerable investments into grassroots football programs,
since it is in the streets and backyards that our beautiful game is
played in the first place. The majority of professional players began
to play football in the streets, it is there that they have acquired
their skills and fell in love with football. This is how I began to play
football, and that is why also on behalf of UEFA I would like to express
our gratitude to the organizer of the tournament, Sport-Express
newspaper, which has over the last 10 years helped the tournament
to develop and now to appear on the international arena
UEFA spares no effort in promoting a healthy lifestyle, sport and
physical fitness, contributing to the organization of different sports
event all across Europe. I am confident that the First International
Backyard Football Tournament will be organized, as usual, on a high
level. We are grateful to you for giving young players from different
countries the chance to play football together, and they will never
forget this experience! I would like to wish the organizers every

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TOURNAMENT CUP
Equal opportunities tournament Cup is the qualifying competition for the first International
BFT. This Cup is for children with limited abilities on hearing and speech from Moscow boarding
houses and orphanages. It was first held on March 24-26, 2009.
Organizer’s main aim is to create a bright sports festival, to give children unforgettable
emotions, the feeling of carefree and peaceful childhood, and to overcome the social differences
and borders between children, to give them an opportunity to feel the joy of the game, the joy
of relations between each other on and off the football pitch.
We think it is extremely important to integrate different social groups into mass studies of
physical culture, that is why we pay special attention to football teams from orphanages and
correctional boarding houses. Joint playing on the football field of children from orphanages
and other children will help them to become a team of high spirit, will teach them to play until
the very end with their heads held high. Only in team sports such qualities as feeling of solidarity
and responsibility, are born.

Such tournaments as BFT is not only sports event, it also plays an
important social role. I’m sure that, thanks to BFT, many young people
were drawn away from negative street influences.
