Dr. Zelda Carter has been on our board for many years and has also been involved in her own ministry that donates food, clothing, Christmas toys, and
new winter coats to children from low-income families. Her dream was to see
a transitional shelter established in our area. Irv Brockson is a Christian man
who has also been involved in helping the needy in the Middletown area.
Through Love INC, Zelda and Irv were able to meet and work together in a
united goal of providing a transitional shelter for homeless families in the Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend areas of New Castle County.
After years of work and dedication they saw that dream come to fruition this
past August: a four unit house was located and purchased through a county
grant. Many organizations and churches came together to do repairs, painting, decorating, and cleaning in preparation for four homeless families. Love
INC was able to help with donated furniture, and women from the local church
helped to decorate and make the apartments more like home.
At the dedication of the shelter, Dr. Carter spoke about a “love connection”
that produced a wonderful outcome. Irv stated that his inspiration came from
four book: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. “We must be doers of the Word, not
hearers only.”
Love INC has provided the Budgeting Program materials to educate the families on biblical principles of handling finances. This is being administered at a
local church within walking distance of the shelter. In addition, Dr. Zelda is
providing resume writing, job search, and clothing for job interviews as well as
help with food for each family.
A local grocery store offered to donate frozen meats and food to Dr. Zelda for
her food distribution program. Shortly thereafter, her freezer broke down. A
Christian man called the Love INC Clearinghouse to donate a 3 week old commercial freezer to hold the frozen meats and food. The freezer came just in
time as the truck arrived with all the frozen foods.

Love INC – serves as a clearinghouse and referral service.
While Love INC provides no direct aid, it enables local
churches to share Christ’s love by linking those needing assistance with church volunteers in the community.

Skilled Ministry Volunteer Coordinator to work
with men & women who can do small repairs
as volunteers
Churches and individuals to adopt families for
Thanksgiving program/Christmas program
Clearinghouse office volunteers needed for

the days and hours. Office is located in Bear
Furniture ministry: Volunteers to pick up and
deliver furniture.
Clearinghouse : Donated Office Space.
Analyzing Needs – Requests are screened by the Love
INC clearinghouse for legitimacy, manageability and extent
of need before referrals are made.
Making Referrals - Love INC refers clients to the most
appropriate sources of help, whether to agencies or local
church volunteers.
Coordinating Volunteers – Love INC trains contact people in local churches to identify volunteers and resources
that are available to meet needs.
Follow-up – Love INC follows up with the client, the
Church Contact Person or the helping agency, making sure
the helping experience achieved its goal and also to meet
the spiritual needs of the one who was helped.

Love Story
A Community Comes Together
In late October, Love INC received a request from a church
requesting a financial intake for a couple’s electric service. Their situation was sad and worrisome. Both had been
employed and had been released from their jobs within the
last few months She was at that time 4 months pregnant
with high risk pregnancy. Both are receiving unemployment,
food stamps and WIC. Their income was approximately
$1,300 a month before their employment releases.
They needed to pay their electric bill by Monday, November 1
to avoid eviction from their apartment. (Because they have
subsidized housing, if electric is disconnected and not reconnected within one week of disconnection, they would be
evicted from the home.) At the time of the intake, the
electric had been disconnected. Love INC contacted Delmarva Power and learned the balance on the account.
However, there was an agreement that if the balance was
paid before November 15, service would be restored. Even
though Delmarva Power allotted them to the 15th, they only
had till November 1 to make payment to avoid the eviction.

A Community Comes Together cont.
Baby Ministry
Love INC sent an emergency email to the churches in the New Castle
County community requesting financial assistance with the electric bill.
We also requested assistance with diapers, for both her children , and
requested the family be adopted for Christmas. Love INC was able to
refer them to a local church for Thanksgiving Dinner. They will be
served a complete meal, have a special service, and leave with a bag of
food.
Love INC has been asked by two local hospitals
and clients for donations of newborn baby items.
This might be an opportunity for churches as part
of their outreach programs
The following are suggestions for baby ministries.
An abundance of emails and calls came in on the family’s behalf. The
community was able to donate funds to pay the entire bill and the
family’s electric was restored on November 1.
Have a group collect and put together baby bags
filled with baby supplies. Every mother needs
things like diapers, bottles, clothes, etc.
There were also numerous calls received in reference to the need of
diapers. Both churches and individuals provided over $200 dollars
worth of diapers. Additionally, a church provided the family a layette
package.
Host a crib or car seat ministry.
•
The cribs can be used if in good condition.
•
A newborn car seat ministry. Women must
have one of these to take the baby home from
hospital. Our understanding is that the hospitals no longer provide the car seats for those
cannot afford to buy one.
If you feel you could help with this need, please
contact Deanna at (302) 221-5683.
This family has been adopted for Christmas by a church family in the
community, and the children will receive toys and clothes. The parents
will also receive clothes and few other items.
It was very humbling to see the community join together to aid with
this family’s needs. When informed that the have come together to
meet this need, the mother was so overwhelmed she cried.
You can help make a difference in the lives of people in need.
