DMS Driver Challenge at Madera Speedway – March 3rd & 17th
USAC National/Western Midgets
2009 DMS Driver Challenge- TK Motorsports driver Tanner
Swanson entered for his chance to compete for a contract to drive in USAC’s
National and Western Midget series with DeBeaumont Motorsports. Over 30
drivers were slated to compete in the challenge’s opening round at Madera
Speedway from March 2nd-6th. In the opening round, 5-6 drivers competed
per day, each taking approximately 50 laps around Madera Speedway’s third-mile pavement oval, trying to
prove that they deserve the opportunity drive for DMS. Drivers would be judged on their car control, overall
speed, coach-ability and willingness to learn and improve. Tanner drove the 900lb, 350 horsepower midget
during Tuesday’s event, running lap times comparable to those set by Bryan Clauson, of Earnhardt-Ganassi
Racing, when he tested the car as the challenge’s
professional driver. Tanner’s quick lap times, along
with his ability to learn from the judge’s comments,
helped him advance to the Final Round, held Tuesday
March 17th.

slated to turn laps on Tuesday, March 17th. Tanner did well considering his little experience with the pavement
midget and their vast difference from the USAC Western Sprint Car that Tanner won the 2008 Championship
with. Although Tanner did come up just short in this competition, he looks forward to taking the experience he
gained with him to McKenney Racing, the team that Tanner will be competing for in select USAC Western
States Midget events on the pavement. We are excited to announce that Tanner’s debut with McKenney Racing
and the USAC Midget series, will be April 4th at Madera Speedway.
Upcoming Events:
Tanner:

April 4th at Madera Speedway in California.

“The Copper on Dirt” at Manzanita Speedway– February 20-21st
USAC Mopar National/Western Midgets
The Team 6R Racing/TK Motorsports #19k opened the 2009 racing season at Manzanita Speedway’s
Copper on Dirt, in Phoenix, Arizona. After timing in the Top 8 in each of Thursday and Friday’s practices,
Kody qualified 16th out of 40 national midgets on Friday afternoon. That placed him on the pole of Heat One
and in a great position to transfer into the Copper Bowl Shootout and
earn a Top 10 starting position for Saturday’s feature. However, we
suffered from an engine part failure on the opening lap of that heat
race, ending our night and weekend in the midget. Although the end
results were unfortunate, we are glad to have put ourselves in a
position to run well in our first dirt midget event, and we look forward
to the next one!
USAC K&N Silver Crown
Team 6R Racing’s #19 kick started the 2009 USAC K&N Silver Crown season at Manzanita Speedway.
This year, Kody will be running for the Silver Crown championship with Team 6R as teammate to two-time
USAC National Sprint Car Champion Brian Tyler. In his first start on the
flat half-mile in a Silver Crown car, Kody qualified 13th, and finished 7th in
Friday night’s heat race. After starting Saturday night’s 50 lap feature in
the 13th position, Kody finished 12th in the event, getting a decent start in
the championship points chase. Kody had very little time on the half-mile
dirt tracks in a Silver Crown car, making this event a great opportunity to
learn and gain valuable experience for the upcoming season.

April 11th at Ventura Raceway in California.
