Italian Night Club Social
Ciao! Come stai? (Hello! How
are you?) You are invited to join
us Friday, Aug. 15, at 6:45 p.m.
in the dining room for our
Italian Night Club Social. Come
and enjoy the sweet sounds of
Italy from our friend Joe
Czapski. We will also be
enjoying a taste of Italy with
some sweet treats and
refreshments. Join us and take a
few lessons in the language of
love! Grazie! Arrivederci! (Thank
you! Goodbye!)
How’s It Growing?
Last month, we introduced you
to our new addition in the
courtyard, our garden. The up and
down weather in July has brought
us some exciting growth in each
section of the garden. When
visiting your loved ones, please
stop by and check it out!

Laundry Lookout!
In recent weeks, we have had
an increase in misplaced
personal items. This has affected
both laundry that is done in the
community as well as laundry
that family members clean
themselves. To help avoid this
issue, please write your loved
one’s name and room number
on all personal items and
clothing. (In clothing, please
place name and room number
on the collar and waistline to
ensure it can be seen.) If you
have any questions or need any
supplies to help you in this
My name is Tiffany Youngs, and I was
born, raised, and currently reside in
Gaylord, Michigan. I have spent the last
two years as Human Resources Director
and Business Office Manager to fellow
TSLC facility Mercy Manor, located in
Grayling, Michigan. Prior to joining the
TSLC team, I attended North Central
Michigan College and worked for and
alongside multiple organizations of various
industries ranging from pharmaceutical to
graphic design.
Off the clock, I enjoy traveling,
photography, good music, and excellent
food all alongside my son, who I’m
convinced is a 45-year-old man trapped in
an 8-year-old’s body.
I look forward to contributing to you and
your community and am truly excited to
begin my journey as Human Resources
Director at Marycrest Manor.
Getting Out and About
Starting in June, the
Community Life department
started getting the residents of
Marycrest out and about more
often! We have done outings
such as a picnic in the park,
lunch at an Italian restaurant,
gambling and people watching
at the casino, as well as going
out for an ice cream cone and a
shopping trip to Target! We have
two trips planned for August.
The first is a “Daycation”
sightseeing trip to Belle Isle and
the River Walk in Downtown
Detroit; the second is a lunch
outing to Golden Corral Buffet.
As we venture into the fall
season, we would love to hear
your ideas for our future trips
and outings. If you have
anything you would like to
share, or would like to sign a
loved one up for a trip, please
see one of the Community Life
department associates!

It’s hard to believe that
August is already here, and
before we know it, we will be
welcoming fall. We are still
waiting for an official groundbreaking date and will share that
as soon as we know. We want to
thank you for participating in
our satisfaction survey. We will
be discussing the details during
family and resident meeting, but
are really encouraged that our
participation rate jumped from
32% to 51%—we are grateful for
your responses so we can be
focused in our efforts to
continually improve your home
and community.
Staff Changes
We want to welcome Lisa
Warren, our new DON, and
Tiffany Young, our new Director
of Human Resources, to our
community. Please see their
introductions within this issue.
Annual Survey
We have completed our
annual state survey, and the
results are located in the public
postings books in both the front
lobby and the dining room. I
want to take a moment to thank
each team member for a job well
done as we received one citation
this review period. This is truly a
credit to the compassionate care
provided day in and day out by
the committed team members of
this community.
In the months to come, we
will start working on some new
initiatives, introduce an
electronic medical record and
focus on fine tuning our
processes to enhance the care
and services you receive from us.
We thank you for the
opportunity to serve you and
your loved ones daily. Take
some time to enjoy these
wonderful summer days and
take pause to enjoy the gifts
of nature.
Warmly, Karis
Welcome! Director of
Nursing Lisa Warren
Eat for Better Sleep
The International Journal of
Obesity published a study that
suggests the more fatty foods
you eat, the worse you will
sleep. Fried food, red meat and
cheese-based meals make your
digestive system work overtime
when your body is trying to rest.
Hi, my name is Lisa Warren. I
currently live in South
Rockwood. I have three
children: Brandon, who is 18,
and Kayla and Chad (twins),
who are 15. I am a very active
sports mom in travel
softball and baseball with Kayla
and Chad. I enjoy reading,
traveling, playing tennis,
gardening and shopping. I
currently am an Assistant
Director of Nursing and have
been in this position for the
past two years. I have been in
the medical field since 2008,
where I began working as a PCT.
I graduated nursing school in
2010. I absolutely love what I do
and look forward to coming to
work every day. I am very
excited to begin my new journey
and look forward to meeting all
of you very soon.
