Visit the Patrick
Kavanagh Centre
Enjoy a tour of the Patrick
Kavanagh Centre which houses
exhibitions on local history and on
Kavanagh, with a sixty-seat AudioVisual Theatre, and a Research
Library. Also on view are twelve
specially commissioned paintings
illustrating Kavanagh’s epic poem
“The Great Hunger”, a miniature
model depicting Kavanagh’s
classic, “A Christmas Childhood”,
Kavanagh’s Death Mask and other
memorabilia associated with the
poet. The tour rounds off back
at the Centre with a half-hour
one-man show by Inniskeen actor,
Gene Carroll, advance booking is
advised to avoid disappointment!
Ravensdale
Equestrian Centre
With its wide-open spaces and
breathtaking scenery, Ravensdale
Lodge offers a truly magical
setting for trekking and leisure
pursuits. The centre is located
near Ravensdale Forest recipient
of the National Forestry Award,
and is close to the scenic Cooley
Mountains that sweep down to the
medieval town of Carlingford on
the banks of Carlingford Lough.
Other services include tuition in
horse riding and show jumping,
cross country courses, mountain
treks, mare foaling, livery and
horse breaking.
Bowl your way to

Sports Bowl
Just minutes from the town centre,

Muse at the
County Museum
The County Museum, Dundalk is
located in a beautifully restored late
18th century warehouse. Funded by
Dundalk Town Council the museum
opened in 1994 and offers an
extensive programme of permanent
exhibitions, temporary displays,
drama presentations, music recitals,
lecture and film. Learn about
Dundalk, from the time of Cúchulainn
to the shoe factory days; here you

The Basement Gallery hosts eleven
exhibitions a year, and is programmed
and managed by Dundalk Urban District
Council. A wide variety of median and
styles are displayed, featuring work by
local, national and international artists.
The Basement is a selling gallery, with
particular emphasis place on the work of
emerging local talent.

Carlingford
Lough Angling
Carlingford Lough Sea Angling
provides a safe, modern, all year
round sea fishing facility. The rich
fishing grounds of the north east
coast provide some of the best
sea fishing in Irish coastal waters.
Carlingford Lough holds the Irish
Record for tope at 661⁄2lbs and
specimen fish are frequently caught.
Oliver Finnegan, skipper of the
Sharon Michélé, has many years
seafaring experience and has
pioneered sea angling round the
Lough and the north eastern coast
of Ireland. So, if Angling is your thing
the Sharon Michélé will keep you
safe on the waters of the Lough!
Cycle the Táin Trail
The route is about 40km long and
can be walked comfortably in two
days. It starts in the heritage town
of Carlingford, the way rises out
of the town to run as a forest
track along the northern slopes
of Carlingford Mountain, giving
wonderful views of the Mournes,
before dipping to sea level at the
town of Omeath. The Way then
rises steeply on narrow roads and
tracks through open country to a
pass (430m) in the midst of the
mountains. It then descends again
to Ravensdale, where there are
forest trails and accommodation.
Irish Country Quads
in Inniskeen!
Take a break from life in the fast
lane. Enjoy a tour with Irish Country
Quads riding on All Terrain Vehicles
on the specially designed courses
with skill and thrill. The trail includes
an underground tunnel with splash,
overhead bridges, water splash
drive, tight corners, large circular
track, bumpy ground and muddy
ditches. Waterproofs, helmets,
wellington boots and gloves are
provided.

streets. Visit the Trinity Arts Centre

Dublin by Train
Hop on the train to Dublin, and
arrive in Ireland’s Capital. With
plenty of options; depending on
your idea of fun you can visit Old
Jameson Distillery and do a whiskey
tasting, taste a pint of the blackstuff
from the Gravity Bar, at the top of
the Guinness Storehouse, wonder
at the detail of the book of Kells,
marvel at Caravaggio’s “The Taking
of Christ” at the National Gallery,
or if all of that is too cultural for
you, relax and take it easy in St.
Stephen’s Green with an ice-cream
and watch the Dublin World go by.

Day Tour to
Belfast by Train
Arrive in Belfast relaxed from your
one hour train journey, and begin a
day of exploring! Take a black taxi
tour to see the famous murals of

Goliath in the Titanic Quarter, enjoy
the restaurants of the Cathedral

to the Crowne Plaza for a delicious

The route makes its way through
County Louth taking in all of its
splendour whether it may be the
Medieval Village of Carlingford in
the north or the historical town of
Drogheda. There are places of

Visit the Heritage
sites of Newgrange,
Knowth & Dowth
Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre,
opened in 1997 and is designed to
present the archaeological heritage
of the Boyne Valley, which includes
the megalithic passage tombs of
Newgrange and Knowth.
The Centre is the starting point for
all visits to both monuments, and
contains extensive interpretative
displays and viewing areas.
Learn that Newgrange is older than
the Pyramids, enjoy the swirling
rock art and most of all appreciate
the beautiful, idyllic surrounds of
Brú na Boinne.

An Táin Theatre
Built in 1859 for the Corn Exchange
Company, the cost of building put the
company into liquidation and so the
Town Commissioners bought it for
4,000 pounds. Later destroyed by fire,
the newly renovated Táin Theatre is
host to all forms of entertainment, from
Comedians, Ballet, Opera, amateur
Theatre Groups- whatever your taste
in performance, An Táin Theatre has
something to whet the appetite!
IMC Cinema
The IMC is Dundalk’s premiere cinema

Newgrange Farm
& Archaeological Park
Skate on thin Ice at
Dundalk Ice Dome!!!
Newgrange Farm is a 333 acre
farm situated in the beautiful and
historic Boyne Valley and surrounds
the famous National Monument
of Newgrange. This is a genuine
family owned and run working farm
/educational facility, where adults
and children can try the “hands on”
experience of bottle feeding, holding,
petting, and seeing all the usual farm
animals and poultry, and much,
much more.
Dundalk Ice Dome, is the home of
Irelands first indoor Olympic size
ice rink. If you want to enjoy the
pleasure of ice skating, the thrill of
ice hockey, or the excitement of
curling and figure skating, come to
the Ice Dome. Everybody is catered
for, from the novice beginner to the
international athlete.
Stephenstown Pond &
Agnes Burn’s Cottage
Stephenstown Pond Project has
been developed in three stages.
Development work on the disused
Stephenstown Pond was carried
out in 1995 (it took one year),
the Nature Park opened in July,
1996 with a crowd of over 1,300
people present. The Agnes
Burns Cottage & Visitor Centre is
situated adjacent to Stephenstown
Pond Amenity Park. This cottage
was once the home of Agnes
Burns and her husband William
Galt (Agnes was the sister of
Scotland’s National Poet, Robert
Burns - famous for writing such
lyrics as Auld Lang Syne and My
Love is Like a Red Red Rose).
Today, it is a place for the family,
walk and enjoy nature at the pond,
push the children on the swings in
the playground, or just relax and
enjoy a cup of tea and a scone in
the restored cottage.
