that continue to make good things happen
around our great post!
Well that is all I have for now. I hope that
all of you are healthy and happy and keep
doing the many great things that keep our
great organization going every day! I hope
to see you all around the post! Thank you

VFW Post #51
PRESIDENT'
S PEN
Hello Ladies;
From the Commander
Comrades,
Just look at how the time is flying by,
school is back in session and hunting
season is almost upon us and things
around the post have just been popping
too!
In last month’s Hashmark, I had
discussed about some donations that we
had earned to help the Muscular
Dystrophy Association. I would like to
correct this and update all of you, because
of a last minute rally with a couple of our
Veterans and their Families and with late
donations. I am happy to say that our total
donations this year to the campaign
totaled just over $185.00 towards helping
Jerry’s Kids. My Thanks goes out to all of
those who aided in this fund drive!
Recently we had our annual fun at the
fairgrounds with our booth. From all of the
unofficial reports that I have been getting
from some of the volunteers that have
worked it and from our quartermaster, they
all said that we were doing well out there.
I’m looking forward to the final report from
the fairgrounds booth committee chair. It
was also brought to my attention that our
membership and the other organizations
that use our post and call it home stepped
up to the challenge and volunteered for
positions out at the booth. From what I
was told that we had so many volunteers
that they were able to ask some of the
long time listed volunteers that are known
to be disabled if they really wanted to work
the amount of shifts that they had signed
up for or not. This was good to hear when
just a month prior to the fair I was worried
about getting enough volunteers to keep
the booth open the full time or not. I would
like to Thank everyone for coming together
on that issue. It is always good to see so
many good things happening around us all
of the time. Thank each and every person

October. I am trying to figure out were this
year has gone to.
The Fair is over for another year and
hopefully we will have a report on how we
did next month or maybe even this month.
I do want to give a Big Thank You to all
who came out to help at the VFW food
booth. Your help was greatly appreciated.

Membership
Hello Ladies,
It was voted and approved at National
Convention that the National Dues would
be going up $1.50 starting January 1,
2012. I advise you to pay your dues NOW.
Dues are coming in very slowly.
Remember, “this is a journey that can help
our Hero’s and their families. The stronger
we are, the stronger Our Organization can
be.” (Quote from our National Membership
Director.)
Not everyone can come to meetings, but
everyone can support by paying your dues
and bringing in new members. When you
meet someone, ask if they are eligible.
Educate yourself with the brochures we
have in the foyer at the Post and tell them
about what we do for our Veterans, their
families, scholarships for youth and
auxiliary members, legislative matters, VA
hospitals and Veterans Homes, service
men and women, cancer aid and research,
Americanism. We are so proud to be an
American and live in our United States of
America!! We, the Ladies Auxiliary to the
Veterans of Foreign Wars say “THANK
YOU” for keeping this freedom!
Please look for new activities happening
this month, for example bunko & dart
tournament. We need our membership
and guests to participate in the club and
make it even more fun that it already can
be.
A reminder for smokers; if you are within
25 feet of the door you may receive a
ticket from a health inspector. The Post is
properly marked and will not receive a
ticket; just the person smoking.
I always appreciate positive advice &
constructive criticism in continuing to make
this a fun place for everyone. If you see a
problem & have a wonderful idea on how
to fix it let me know.

Information for all, If you do not see the
bartender, please do not keep ringing the
bell. Bartender will be back shortly.
In order to do this we are in the process of
retraining our bartenders to not over serve
or over pour drinks. This is becoming a
large problem here and it cuts into the
profits in the Canteen.
The door keys have all been changed and
security is being updated to try and
eliminate the possibility of theft. We are
also updating all job descriptions and they
will be strictly enforced.
By doing this we are trying to make this a
Happy Place that all our members will
enjoy and be treated equally. If you have a
suggestion please write it down and put it
in the suggestions box or come to the Club
Board meetings and tell of your concerns
God Bless you for serving our Veterans,
Marge Wright, Treasurer
I do hope everyone has had a great
summer.

CANCER AID AND RESEARCH
October is Breast Cancer Awareness
month. The color is pink. I’ve sold all
my first group of pins and will have
more soon. They are for a donation of
$3.00 or more each. This money goes
tot he Auxiliary Cancer Fund to
support Cancer Aid and Research and
for Cancer Grants.
In the Foyer at the Post, we have a
Book Exchange. This money goes to
the Auxiliary for Coins for Cancer
which also benefits Cancer Aid and
Research. Every year annually,
National Ladies Auxiliary VFW gives
over $3,000,000.00 to Cancer Grants
and Research.
Ladies, you are covered with a cancer
policy, $6.10 of you dues goes to
cover this insurance. IT IS NOT A
LIFE INSURANCE POLICY, but
covers some of your stay in the
hospital and some of your Chemo. Life
