THE WAY IS THE DESTINATION
Logistics
with heart and mind
Dear Readers,
CUSTOMISED SOLUTIONS.
PRECISION.
SELF-CONFIDENCE.
Not long ago, my nephew asked me what “logistics” means.
Providing a satisfactory answer to his simple question was not easy.
Certainly, the term covers a much wider range of activities today
than it did twenty, or even ten, years ago. Customers’ requirements,
infrastructures, patterns of competition and global markets have
changed beyond all recognition in a relatively short space of time.
One thing is certain: logistics is no longer just about transporting
goods quickly and cost-efficiently from A to B. It’s now more a
question of coming up with a coordinated response to the dynamics
of moving goods and how these dynamics are interconnected.
With our extensive service portfolio, our competence and quality
of support we provide, we have earned the unqualified trust of our
customers. They rely on us to collect and deliver goods punctually,
and to manage complex work processes and information flows
efficiently.
Our staff has the know-how and the decision-making freedom
to set processes in motion all over the world on behalf of our
customers. That’s what drives our business forward and gives us
our identity.
I can’t imagine my nephew knew that he was asking such a vexing
question. But in thinking about how to answer him, I realised just
how complex logistics services have become.
Yours,
Christian Dieckhöfer
General Manager

ALWAYS ON THE MOVE:
BUILDING ON PAST
ACHIEVEMENTS
STUTE Logistics (AG & Co.) KG is a modern logistics service company
with a long and distinguished history. Founded in Bremen in 1853
as a building materials business, it has in recent decades established itself as one of Europe’s leading providers of transport and
contract logistics services. STUTE Logistics (AG & Co.) KG has been
a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kuehne + Nagel Group since 1996.
We devise customised transport solutions and manage complex
projects. We work with the utmost precision. We have acquired
considerable expertise over the years, so our approach and
operating procedures are highly flexible. We believe in giving
our customers hands-on support.
Regardless of whether we have been entrusted with a transport order or
contract logistics project, or whether we have been asked to provide
consultation or optimise procedures – we deliver. Transport planning
and realisation as well as the day-to-day running of a plant and
cost-controlling are all tasks for which we have the resources to tackle
on our own. These are the core competencies we excel in. Delivering
all-in-one solutions was how STUTE first made a name for itself over
150 years ago. And it’s what we still do today.

OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM
National Management Transport Logistics
Ph. D. Kai Barwig is the National Manager responsible
for Transport Logistics. This company division is involved in a wide spectrum of activities involving the use
of all the various transport modes. “We go to enormous
lengths to gain the confidence of our customers.
We are always on hand to deliver fully functioning
transport concepts within whatever deadline we are
set. STUTE offers an enormous range of services, all of
them backed up by years of experience and performed
with state-of-the-art equipment.”
National Management Contract Logistics (Operations)
Within the National Management, Michael Engler is
responsible for Contract Logistics (Operations). “We
support our customers every day in all manner of
logistics issues. STUTE provides a wide range of logistics
services across the entire supply chain in a variety of
different sectors. We create added value for our customers
through KPI-based processes and continuous optimisation
by leveraging best-practice experience from other projects.
Operational excellence and lean management are integral
to our way of doing business.”
Christian Dieckhöfer
“We offer our customers professional logistics
partnerships”, is how STUTE’s General Manager
sums up the company’s philosophy.
STUTE Logistics (AG & Co.) KG has set itself the
task of moving with the times and, at the same
time, staying in close touch with its customers.
With its long and distinguished company history,
STUTE has made it a duty to deliver consistent
and reliable service. “As forward-looking transport and logistics specialists, we deliver innovative and – if need be – complex solutions that
meet our customers’ requirements exactly.”
Jens Wollesen
Jens Wollesen is STUTE‘s other General Manager
and, at the same time, Kuehne + Nagel’s Executive
Vice President Contract Logistics Germany. “It gives
me great satisfaction to co-direct a company
that places emphasis on values such as respect,
shouldering responsibility, and customer focus.
The company’s employees have embraced these
values and fully subscribe to the team ethic.
Motivation levels are high. I think customers
sense this in their everyday dealings with STUTE’s
workforce.”
National Management Commercial
Marco Hamacher is the National Manager in charge of the
Commercial division. He is responsible for Commercial
including HR management, Finance/Controlling, IT as well
as quality management (QSHE). “One of the main factors
in the success of our dynamic company is the efficiency
of our Commercial team. Their fast response times take
the pressure off of our operative units. Our contributions
guarantee high quality standards, and our performance
measurement systems provide customers with a transparent
overview of the services being performed for them.”
National Management Contract Logistics
(Project Management)
Hergen Tönnies, also a member of STUTE’s National
Management team, is in charge of the company’s contract
logistics projects. “Professional planning combined with
innovative ideas backed up by the experience gained
from earlier successful implementations form the basis
for every new logistics concept. Of course, the ultimate
success of a project also depends on the start-up phase
going according to plan. STUTE has its own standardised
methodologies and launch processes to guarantee the
smooth integration of its solutions into customers’
pre-existing operations.”

COMMERCIAL DIVISION
WITH HANDS, HEART AND MIND
The Commercial division, which is responsible for Quality Management (QSHE), Human Resources,
Finance/Management Accounting and IT, forms STUTE’s strategic backbone. Its staff is fully aware
of the key role they play in the company’s business. The Commercial division´s core task is ensuring
that customers and staff receive the support they require.
QSHE: quality – safety – health – environment
Personnel: competence and commitment
Finance/Management Accounting:
transparency and tuning
Maintaining high QSHE standards helps ensure
successful long-term relationships with customers.
It means observing all applicable quality standards
(for instance VDA, ISO and OHSAS), continuously
monitoring customer satisfaction levels, and
dealing with issues as and when they occur.
Our success is underpinned by our employees’
skills and motivation. That’s why we take an
active interest in developing the personal skills
and potential of our staff members from the day
they join the company.
This division is the control centre of the company’s
business management apparatus. It provides the
financial tools for the transparent and commercially sustainable management of the projects we
undertake for our customers.
Encouraging staff members to build on their
professional strengths has always been a key
policy at STUTE. After all, what other way is
there of ensuring that their expertise and
commitment are seamlessly matched with our
customers’ constantly evolving requirements?
Our Finance/Management Accounting division has
reduced the internal red tape to a minimum so that
the company can focus on operational processes,
and on managing projects on the basis of reliable
company statistics, KPIs (key performance indicators), reports and prognoses.
In-house training courses and ongoing opportunities
for enabling staff to improve their qualifications
and skills are key elements of the company’s
“learning-enabled” approach.

management systems, all the equipment required

systems), and telematics systems for the efficient

Always ready:
distribution and spare parts logistics
Just in time:
procurement and production logistics
Outsourcing made easy:
project management with no “ifs” or “buts”
When it comes to setting up a distribution centre,
flexibility, speed and quality are of paramount
importance. This is particularly true if the items
to be stored are spare parts. We organise worldwide distribution operations with a view to
helping our customers improve their after sales
service.
Supplying production centres is one of our specialities. We provide this service for a wide range of
industrial companies, including renowned names
in the aviation, automotive and mechanical
engineering sectors. Our customers know that
they can rely on us to keep their production lines
and islands supplied around the clock.
We offer our customers unsurpassed levels of
expertise and professionalism, as our engineers
are well versed in all the relevant logistics
disciplines. Devising mature launch processes
and operational concepts well in advance of the
implementation phase is one of their top priorities.
The seeds of success are sown when a project is
