Welcome to glór and our summer season which features our usual
mix of theatre, music, visual arts, film, dance, and of course, lots
of summer workshops to keep everybody busy during the long
(hopefully!) hot summer. We’re open throughout and we’ll be
sprucing ourselves up for the Fleadh – we have a great line up of
concerts and events running through the entire 10 days culminating
in a monster bash with Mànran and Kíla. As always, we welcome one
and all to drop in, take a look and enjoy what we have to offer.

AUTUMN PREVIEW
Autumn highlights include Eleanor McEvoy in concert, Keegan Theatre
presenting David Mamet’s classic, American Buffalo. We pay tribute to
one of Clare’s musical treasures with our annual MÓRglór Award on the
8th October and throughout October we’ve planned a whole range of
arts events for children around Song of the Sea, to include screening,
exhibition and visit from Cartoon Saloon. And continuing with our strand
of children’s arts events, we will once again team up with Baboró Children’s
Arts Festival to present a number of superb children’s shows.
So keep an eye on our website for a whole host of autumn visiting and
community events!

LAUNCH OF THE
ENNIS STREET ARTS FESTIVAL 2016

pupils from Knockanean NS will perform the work they have composed
specially for the centenary commemoration, called A Soundscape of

border straight through the small town of Puckoon. With the church
separated from its own graveyard and drink now thirty percent cheaper

O’Connor are universally regarded as being classics of their kind. Three

Maria is an Irish singer, actor and filmmaker. She has sung live with Snow
Patrol and has spent more than two decades performing all over the
world before audiences at Glastonbury, Oxygen and the Cambridge
Folk Festival, and in small, intimate theatres. She honed her craft as a
performer with Hothouse Flowers and The Black Velvet Band before
performing in the movie The Commitments and by then,
Maria’s reputation was strong enough to earn her a place singing on
the album The Lady Sings The Blues alongside Aretha Franklin, Billie
Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Tina Turner and Annie Lennox.

100 years after the Easter Rising.
The 2016 Merriman Summer

European Parliament’s Irish Office
and is also part of County Clare’s
Community Initiative contribution

Ballet Ireland’s popular summer school returns to glór and
gives participants a taste for all that goes into making a
ballet and a peek into the life of a professional dancer.
Participants will have an unforgettable time creating
a ballet with professional dancers from Ballet Ireland
based on a familiar story. The young performers play an
important role in the stage at the end of the week for
family and friends to come and enjoy.
The programme is suitable for boys and girls ages 6+
with or without dance training. Please note: Seniors are
required all day on Thursday and Friday. Juniors attend

wears glasses!
The Speks have won a Parents’ Choice music
award in the US where their music has been
described as ‘Riverdance for kids’ and they
encourage everyone to sing, scream, clap and
dance along during their performances. This
will be a great, fun event for kids aged 2 to 92!

Kíla are bringing their hip-shaking, smilemaking, funky, groovy brand of trad to glór
for this Fleadh Cheoil 2016. Kíla’s music is
a celebration of their energy, creativity and
wild exuberance, and this year they will be
celebrating the continued success of their
recent album Suas Síos, the remarkable film
Song of the Sea, (for which they co-wrote
the score) and the most recent news that the
music they wrote for the documentary about
the Shannon received an Emmy nomination.
Mànran are one of the best-known and bestloved Scottish bands on the scene today. The
2011 launch of their debut single heralded a
meteoric rise to the top of the Scottish music
world that quickly saw them playing many
of the most prestigious festivals in Europe
despite having only been in existence a few
short months. With music ranging from the
explosive to the poignant and, at all times,
an intense connection with their audience,
Mànran thrive on live performances.

VISUAL ARTS PROGRAMME
glór gallery is open upstairs in glór from 10am – 5pm daily and is free of charge. Come
in, have a coffee and a wander around one of our superb exhibitions featuring renowned
Irish artists.
WATERBASED AND OTHER STORIES
Waterbased and other stories is a themed exhibition
of prints by Graphic Studio members and visiting
artists, that depict water as a central element in
their composition. This is our first collaboration with
the Gallery and with it being summer, when better
to celebrate water and its life giving properties?
Featuring works by Donald Teskey, Elke Thonnes,

Where my Heart Lies is an exhibition which celebrates
and honours the rich legacy of music and music
making in Co. Clare, in those who carried it and
passed it on. Where My Heart Lies is concerned with
place and music, inseparable from each other, and always interdependent.
Christy’s work has been widely exhibited and can be found in many collections, both
public and private. The images selected here are drawn from a larger body of work made
by Christy McNamara over the last 30 years, including some work from his book The
Living Note, a collaboration with writer and RTÉ radio producer Peter Woods.

