glór is at the centre of the arts in Co. Clare but
we are also at the centre of the community and
we value everyone who shows, performs, reads,
creates or participates in any way in all that we
offer throughout the year. As always we aim to
ensure that our programme has something for
everyone.
We’ll be switching the Christmas lights on and
hanging baubles out of every corner to prepare
for our Christmas Treat for families on December
6th. Come and visit Santa, who has kindly taken
time out to visit us, have a hot chocolate in our
café and stay for the exquisite Little Light, then let
your hair down for our rocking winter sing along,
make a snowman and stay for our screening of
a favourite Christmas movie, the original 1947
version of Miracle on 34th Street starring the late,
great Maureen O’ Hara. December also brings
Ballet Ireland with Coppélia, Julie Feeney in
spectacular voice and The WhistleBlast Quartet
with The Nutcracker.
To kick off our wonderful winter season,
we’re offering an early bird booking
package on selected events where you
see this delightful birdy icon. If you book
that event on or before close of business
on Monday 18th January get a 10%
discount on your ticket…
Early Bird tickets are limited to the first
50 tickets for each of these events, so
when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Check out www.glor.ie for other great

BIGGER PICTURE PROJECTS PRESENTS
CHAROLAIS
Wed 17 Feb 8pm | €18/€16 Conc.
Written and performed by Noni Stapleton
Directed by Bairbre Ní Chaoimh
Perfectly marbled and bashed about till tender: A surreal,
black comedy of love, longing and one woman’s intense
rivalry with a Charolais heifer. This is a muddy place of
simmering desire minced with a loneliness that cuts to
the bone. Rarely in Irish theatre are the challenges of
farming life and the joy of sex expressed so frankly or
with such charm. If you are fond of cows and dark humour
this is the show for you.
Winner of Bewley’s Little Gem Award at
Tiger Dublin Fringe.

laughter, loss and despair’

30 YEARS, ARTISTS, PLACES
From Mon 7 Dec – Thurs 21 Jan
Curated by Muireann Ni Chonaill,
Laois Arts Officer
One of the most significant exhibitions of
Irish artists in recent years will be launched
in glór this December ahead of an extensive
nationwide tour. The exhibition marks 30
years since Local Authorities embarked on
providing for the arts locally, featuring 30
artists and 30 places, (Clare being the first
county to appoint an arts officer in 1985).
This is a must see, not just for the
extraordinary line up of Irish artists who
rarely find themselves curated into one
room, but for the stories of how they each
came to be purchased, commissioned
or acquired by local authorities, therein
lies the real narrative; the quiet, genuine
and imaginative support for Irish artists
demonstrated by our local government
for the past 30 years. Featuring renowned
artists such as Tony O’Malley, Alice Maher,
Robert Ballagh, John Kindness, Norah

IRIS (2014)
Dir: Albert Maysles | 78 mins Cert:
Club USA
Fri 15 Jan 8pm
€15 including film, coffee,
bagels & jazz in the foyer
Iris
pairs
legendary
87-year-old
documentarian Albert Maysles with Iris
Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly
dressed 93-year-old style maven who
has had an outsized presence on the
New York fashion scene for decades.
More than a fashion film, this
documentary is a story about creativity
and how, even in Iris’ dotage, a soaring
free spirit continues to inspire. Iris
portrays a singular woman whose
enthusiasm for fashion, art and people
are life’s sustenance and reminds us
that dressing, and indeed life, is nothing
but an experiment.
To celebrate this gorgeous film, glór
is encouraging you to wear your most
flamboyant fashion!
