John Kerins Cup
Sat June 11th John Kerins Cup held at Pairc Ui Rinn..
Last Saturday Valley Rovers U11 footballers competed with great success, in the John Kerins
Memorial Cup in Pairc Ui Rinn.
This was marvellous experience for our team, with pipe bands, parades, national anthems, a
few tears and great enjoyment making up the day. Our first game at 10:30am was a quarter
final meeting with Na Piarsaigh, after a good game Valleys were victorious on a score line of 1 –
7 to 0 – 1. Our next game was a semi-final meeting with Eire Og, after a very good performance,
this resulted in a comfortable victory for the Valleys.
At 4pm Valley Rovers were pitted against Nemo Rangers in the final. After a very hard fought
game Valleys were eventually defeated on a score line of Valley Rovers 2 – 5 to Nemo Rangers 4
– 4.This was a tremendous performance by every one of the 19 Valley Rovers players on duty on
the day. The standard of football produced was to a very high standard and the boys are a credit
to the club and their parents.
This was a very enjoyable day and a great experience for the boys, but also a long day and I
would like to thank the lad’s parents for their support and patience on the day.
Also thanks to Garda Mick Lyons, Mick Lyons, Niall O Leary, Jim Wall and Chairperson Claire O’
Shea for their help and support on the day.
I would also like to compliment Aidan O Connor and his colleagues in An Garda Siochana for a
superbly organised and enjoyable day.
