Rivnut Installation for UCB Bar
Note: After installing the Rivnuts, the brackets for the UCB bar can be mounted under the headliner
with only the tabs sticking through or you can install the brackets over the headliner. See #10.

Headliner must be taken out of vehicle for installation of Rivnuts.
Determine which crossbeam the UCB will be mounted to. There must be a minimum of 1/2" between
the crossbeam and ceiling to accommodate the Rivnut.
Loosely attach brackets onto the ends of the telescoping bar (interlace the tabs on the bar and the tabs
on the bracket) using the 3/8" bolts/nuts provided.
With an assistant, hold the bar up to the crossbeam. Center the bar on the beam allowing 5 inches
from the sides of the vehicle to allow for airbag deployment. Extend the inner telescoping tube as
needed.
Center the brackets on the beam and mark the centers of the crossbeams in the slots.
Drill a 13/32" hole in each marked spot. A small pilot hole will make this easier.
NOTE: To avoid damaging the roof of the vehicle use a depth stop on the drill bit or insert a
metal plate between the ceiling and crossbeam to use as a stop for the drill bit.

Using the Rivnut insertion tool provided (the first one is assembled for you), insert the Rivnut into the
hole. Use a 9/16" wrench to hold the large nut against the flat and star washers and top of the Rivnut
to keep it from turning in the hole. Use a 7/16" wrench or socket to tighten the 1/4" bolt 3 turns.
Do not over tighten.

Removing bolt
Unscrew the 1/4" bolt. Remove the bolt, star washer, large nut and flat washers. Rivnut should be
tight.

Assemble the next Rivnut insertion tool in the order shown for the other 3 holes and install. If washers
are deformed, use the new extras provided.
10.
Determine at this point if the brackets will be under or over the headliner.
If mounting under the headliner:
a. Loosely bolt the mounting plates using the 1/4" x 1" bolts/washers/lock washers provided.
b. Reattach the UCB bar to the brackets and align squarely. Tighten the brackets to the beam.
Remove the UCB.
c. Reinstall the headliner. Cut slits for the tabs to protrude through. Attach the UCB Bar and tighten.
The tabs on the UCB bar are offset. Turning the bar over will increase the clearance from the ceiling.
If mounting over the headliner:
a. Reinstall the headliner.
b. Use a heavy needle to penetrate the headliner to mark where the Rivnuts are.
c. Use a knife or box cutter to cut an X over each of the Rivnuts so the 1/4" bolt will fit through.
d. Loosely bolt the mounting plates using the 1/4" x 1" bolts/washers/lock washers provided.
e. Reattach the UCB bar to the brackets and align squarely. Tighten the brackets and the UCB.
Turning the bar over will increase the clearance from the ceiling.

Proceed with mounting your ELS model to the UCB bar.
After mounting ELS rack drill a single 5/16" hole where it will go through the inner and outer bars. Put
the anchoring bolt (1/4" x 2") through and tighten the lock nut. This helps prevent bar compression in
the event of an accident.
