Market Overview
Sources: Nationwide, Halifax, Hometrack, Home.co.uk, Rightmove Surveys & House Price Indices
According to Nationwide, the price of a typical house changed very slightly between April and May, increased by 0.4%, and
was 1.1% higher than May 2012.
The proportion of asking prices being achieved stands at just under 94%, the highest level since July 2010, Hometrack
figures show.
According to Home.co.uk, the typical (median) time on market now stands at just 102 days (around 3.5 months) although
there are still considerable regional differences.
Rightmove figures show that the average number of properties for sale, per estate agent, has increased compared to last
month, now standing at 69.
Home.co.uk reports that the property market is showing signs of growth that is not exclusively driven by the price of homes in
Greater London. Average asking prices across the UK increased 0.7% in the last month, largely driven by the South East,
South West and Scotland.
.
According to Hometrack figures, the number of sales agreed is outstripping the number of new properties coming to the
market. Nationally, new supply grew by 2.8% in May while sales agreed were up 8.2%.
Rightmove has recorded 3% fewer properties coming to market when comparing the first five months of 2013 to those of
2012.
