"Freshmen, freshmen, don't be shy"What a mess! People hanging from
the ceiling, fainting in class and
whispering sweet nothings to Betty
Lou. (Betty Lou)??? Well, I guess
I'll just sit back and sip on my

"Judge, let me relate to you •

Tim Brow learns the perils of being stuck-up the hard way .
Jim gives the order, "30 days in the pookie!"
The J.C.L. skit demonstrates how hard it is to eat
laying on your side.
Although they are the OTHER
sport played during the fall, there

With two letterman returning
from last year's team, the Shamrock golfers placed second in their
newly formed league with a 7-3
won-lost record. Even though there
may have been no records broken
during the season we a II want to
congratulate our boys on a very
f !ne and successful season. Under
the coaching of Mr. Pete Owens
the Shamrock's hope to do even
better next year.

Seriously though, the volleyball team

The J. V. 's fin ished in second place after two disappointing loses by a total of only seven points. A few
yards d ifference and the J. V.'s could have brought another Championship to Sacred Heart . But 6-2 is a very
respectable record and indicates that the Shamrocks will have power to spare in 1973.

McGovern had a spectacula r campaign, a II

campaigning, but sti II Nixon defeated him in our
rally. A good education for a II and a chance for

"It's four more years, not four more beers! ! "
He 1 s a mystery man to most Americans,
that s perfectly clear. But he carried the
votes of Sacred Heart Students at our
November political rally. Though the
tactics of Nixon-ites and McGovern supporters greatly differed, Nixon came
through. Posters everywhere, pamphlets
and common sense arguements for re-election
were key factors of Nixon 1 s S.H. campaign.
But, 4 more years of what?

The Juniors have only one more year to go!
But being #2, in the school they sure do try
harder. Rather than being underclassmen they
are now looked up to and wi II soon have that
glorious title of "Senior."
It's been a busy year for the Juniors- class
ring's; prom; Junior-Senior Banquet; and many
other activities have fi lied the year with excitement. Despite all these added activities,
they have managed to keep up their spirit as
well as their academic work. When it comes
to the Juniors you can bet that they sure won't

The Junior Classical League (JCL to all my friends), got
things started by attending a mini convention in Grand

In the past, the traditional canned
food drive was motivated by a spirit of
competition and the thought of a free pizza
party for the biggest can collectors o This
year, there was a big breakthrough The
spi rit of competition was replaced by the
Christmas spirit of giving; the only prize
being a warm feeling that tells you that you
helped others with your generosity o Perhaps
it IS better to give than to receive o

Along with decorating the kitchen
cupboards of some unfortunate people,
the students got together and decked
our halls with bright Christmas and wintertime ornamentation. There were endless chains of red and green strung from
the ceilings and stained-glass windows
of snowscenes and Santa CIa us.
. There was a Iso a spec ia I Christmas
assembly where all our beloved teachers
were presented with small but unique
tokens of our appreciation . All in all, it
was quite a Merry Christmas at Sacred
Heart.
A masterpiece by the hands of inspired artists.

The team had the same coach
this year, Mike LaFeve, but with
a different nickname. (Instead of
Smiley, it was Fuph!) The same
old questions were always being
asked: Are we men or boys this
week? How many QUARTERS tonight, boys? Hey, we won the
game, men! No one can say the
freshmen didn't have spirit this
year, with the great cheerleaders
we had. So keep it up BOYS or

NHS
The key to the National Honor Society is versatility! The only function is NOT just acting intelligent. This year has found the NHS involved
in many activities. The first big undertaking was
the transportation of the cans gathered in the
food drive, to Catholic Social Services. Induction ceremonies increase the number and quality
of club members. This club also has supported
other school activities, by purchasing ads in the
newspaper and the yearbook.
Two new areas are being explored this year
in the forms of a career day at S HS.
A ca ndid, unposed picture of the entire
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY!
82
Ma ry Jo is a perfect example that brains are the only
quality NHS members possess.

INTELLECTUALISM HITS SHS
Chess is the best game ever invented
by man kind. The chess club is one of the
best things to ever be organized at SHS.
Chess has finally put some class into this
schoo I. The mind is mightier than the
body and the sophisticated mind of the
chess player is the best in the world. The
chess player is not only the most competitive in the world, but he is also the
most brazen. Long live the King!

The noontide is upon us and

Are you optimistic 'bout the way that
things are going?
TERRY: No, I never ever think of it at all.
PETER: Don't you ever worry when you see
what's going down?
TERRY: No, I try to mind my ~usiness that is,
no business at all.
PETER : When it's time to function as a feeling
human being, will your Bachelor of Arts
help you get by?
TERRY: I hope to study further a few more years
or so, I also hope to keep a steady high.
PETER: Will you try to change things, with the
power that you have, the power of a
mi Ilion new ideas?
TERRY: What is this power that you speak of
and the need for things to change? I
always thought that everything was fine ,
PETER: Don't you feel regression just closing in
around.
TERRY: No, the campus here is very, very free ,
PETER: Don't it make you angry the way war is
dragging on?
TERRY: Well, I hope the president knows what
he's into, I don't know.
PETER: Dori't you see starvation in the city
where you live, all the needless hunger,
all the needless pain?
TERRY: I haven't been there lately, the country
is so fine, my neighbors don't see hunger
cause they haven't got the time.
PETER: Thank you for the talk, you know you really
eased my mind, I was troubled by the shape
of things to come.
TERRY: Well if you had my outlook, your feelings
would be numb, you'd always think that
everything was fine.
