Hope and Deliverance
Winter - 2015
“As they pass in and as they come out of
this group of drinking-houses, they pause to
hear our message of hope and
deliverance.” (Booths Boots)

San Pedro, CA
Grand Opening .............................................. March 5
With “Man and Crossman’s Tap”
on the one hand, and two other
flaming gin-palaces on the other, in
the very heart of the East of
London, is a public house known as
“The Blind Beggar”. Its gilded
taps, and brilliantly-painted front,
contrasting strangely with the
bruised and bloated faces of the
poor creatures who find therein the
means to drown for a time at least
the sorrow and remorse of which
they are the wretched victims. On
the side of the pavement opposite
these decorated man-traps of the
devil, is an open space, a sort of noman’s ground, before the wide
highway is reached, on which we
hold a service every Sabbath from
one to three o’clock. As they pass
in and as they come out of this
group of drinking-houses, they
pause to hear our message of hope
and deliverance.’ (Booth’s Boots)
Just as in Booth’s time and his
vision of saving the least and the
lost who were caught trap of
addiction, The Salvation Army
Adult Rehabilitation Centers still
give the message of “Hope and
Deliverance”
For over 100 years The Salvation
Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers
have offered, “Hope” to the
thousands of men and women
caught in addiction to drugs and
alcohol. Providing them the tools
needed and a way out of this
destructive lifestyle. And offering
“Deliverance” through Jesus Christ
to those willing to do what is
needed to make the change.
Restoring families and
relationships, giving a new purpose
for a new life.
The ARC offers “Hope and
Deliverance” to all who want it.

ARC Command Quarterly News Letter
You are reading the first issue of the ARC Command News
Letter. It is our intention to share what God is doing in the
hearts and lives of the men and women in our twenty-four
drug and alcohol treatment programs throughout the
Western United States.
We desire to make this news letter a resource to those who
are serving in the field, passing on helpful information to
administrators, employees, volunteers and alumni alike as
we together offer “Hope and Deliverance” through the
ministry of the ARC.
We trust that you will be blessed as you read through these

Riverside Alumni Fellowship Motivated to Give Back
“Giving Back” that is the
motivation behind what is
happening with the Riverside
County ARC, Alumni Fellowship
(AF). A lot has been happening
since the fellowship was
reestablished in May 2013.
Following is a list of projects
they now have set in place or are
currently setting up for alumni
and beneficiaries:
• Tattoo Removal
• Sponsor beneficiaries to attend
Divisional Men’s Camp
• Job Placement with two
companies
• Purchase household items
including furniture and
appliances
• Alumni House
• GED Program
• Golf Clubs for SFOT Cadets
Once a month the alumni
sponsor a van of alumni and
beneficiaries to Home Boy
Industries in Los Angeles, CA
for tattoo removal at no cost.
The current AF president, Jerry
Jové, “We have set up an
Alumni Social Service with an
application process… “We
provide anything from tools to
large appliances, anything an
alumnus needs to better
themselves.”
“We are a motivated
group that tries to do
what’s best to help the
new alumni with things
that we as alumni were
not able to do... or didn’t
have at our fingertips…”
Currently AF is putting
together a GED program,
partnering with a school that
will provide books and
instruction at no cost to alumni,
beneficiaries or The Salvation
Army.

Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, Youtube, SAVNtv are
just some of the Social Networks that ARC’s are
using around the command to communicate with
donors, Family Store Patrons, Advisory Council
Members, Alumni, Staff etc. to share the ongoing
story of The Salvaiton Army Adult Rehabilitation
Centers around the Western Territory. Even this
newsletter; if you are not reading a copy that was
handed to you by someone, chances are you
received an email and or downloaded a copy from a
Facebook or Twitter page.
We want to share our story with you because Social
Networking is an awesome way to communicate,
pass around ideas or just to get people to share. As
an example we posted “The Salvation Army Adult
Rehabilitation Centers of the West are dedicated to
helping men and women to a life of wholeness and
forgiveness.” On our Twitter feed and both of our
Facebook pages on February 9th and the example to
the right is the response we received on our Count
Me In page. We like that kind of chatter because it
let’s us know that we are still doing the right thing
and the most good with the donations that our
donors send to us (Thank You!) and with the lives of
the men and women God sends through our doors
every day.
So join in on the chatter and help us spread the
word and share our story. Join us on Facebook and
Twitter and all the other social sites ARC’s are
connected to. Post and Share and Like, forward this
newsletter on to a family member and friend to
spread the word to get others to chatter with us. I
was once told that, “The Salvation Army is the BEST
kept secret.” Let’s not make it a secret anymore.

Issue 1 – Winter 2015
There is nothing like the great outdoors! The
Salvation Army all around the world has owned
and operated camps for over one hundred years.
2015 at camp Redwood Glen nestled among 206
acres of beautiful Redwoods, Madrones, Oaks and
Eucalyptus trees in Scotts Valley, CA.
In May beneficiaries from the twenty-four ARC’s
throughout the command will be participating in
ARC Retreats at two of our beautiful camps in the
Territory.
Each retreat will feature a guest speaker (both yet
to be determined) with times for worship, Bible
studies, campfires, softball, basketball, and
recreation.
Crags Retreat will take place; May 8-10, 2015 at
Pine Summit a beautiful 36.6 acre camp located in
Big Bear, CA
These retreats present GREAT opportunities to get
away and take in the beauty that surrounds and to
listen and receive what God has all who attend.
Redwood Glen Retreat will take place; May 15-17,
Sunday, March 15, 2015, Salvation Army Corps
(churches) and ARC’s from throughout Las
Angeles and Orange Counties will be gather at the
Pasadena Church of the Nazarene for a United
Meeting, featuring the Territorial Chief Secretary,
Colonel Dave Hudson and presented by the Crags
Committee of the ARC Command. They will be
joining together to worship and celebrate God’s
Love. The meeting will take place at 5 PM, 3700
East Madre Boulevard; Pasadena, CA 91107
(directions)
Sunday, September 6, 2015 another United Meeting
will take place with the Riverside and San
Bernardino ARC’s joining with Salvation Army
Corps (churches) throughout Imperial, Riverside,
San Bernardino and San Diego counties at a
location to be determined.
These United Meetings are a result of the
momentum generated at the ARC’s “Count Me In”
Convention this past October to bring Corps and
ARC; Soldier and Alumni/Beneficiary together to
celebrate and share the wonder working hand of
God in each of our lives.
Regional United Meetings are expected to be
happening all over the Territory presented by the
ARC Commands Crags and Redwood Glen
committees.

The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers provide spiritual, social
and emotional assistance for men and women who have lost the ability to
cope with their problems and provide for themselves.
Each center offers residential housing, work, and group and individual
therapy, all in a clean, wholesome environment. The physical and
spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter
society and return to gainful employment. Many of those who have been
rehabilitated are reunited with their families and resume a normal life.
Currently there are twenty-four Adult Rehabilitation Centers throughout the
Western United States:
Anaheim
Anchorage
Bakersfield
Canoga Park
Denver
Fresno
Honolulu
Las Vegas
Long Beach
Lytton
Oakland
Pasadena
Phoenix
Portland
Riverside
