Need a spooooky Halloween treat? These chocolate brownies
are topped with an orange-coloured frosting, and using
pretzels in place of nuts makes them a school-safe option
for costume day.
Makes one 9 x 13-inch (23 x 33 cm) pan.
Cuts into 24 portions.
INGREDIENTS:

Brownies:
1 cup (250 mL)
5 oz (150g)
¼ cup (60 mL)
1 cup (250 mL)
½ cup (125 mL)

unsalted butter
bittersweet chocolate
vegetable oil
granulated sugar
packed dark brown sugar
large eggs, room temperature
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. For the brownies, preheat the oven to 350 °F (180 °C). Grease and line
a 9 x 13-inch (23 x 33 cm) pan with parchment paper, so that the paper
hangs over the sides.
2. Melt the butter and chocolate in a saucepot over low heat, stirring
constantly until smooth. Scrape into a large mixing bowl and, while it’s
still warm, whisk in the vegetable oil and granulated and brown sugars,
and then whisk in the eggs and vanilla. Sift the flour, cocoa powder and
salt in a separate bowl, then whisk into the brownie mixture.
Stir in the crushed pretzels and chocolate chips, then scrape the batter
into a prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake the brownies for about
