Application of profiles
ProfileMaker Professional 3.1 is a suite of
feature-rich software applications that
enables you to quickly, easily, and accurately
account for color differences in different scanners, digital cameras, monitors, printers, and
presses. The new version 3.1 also offers, for the
first time, new profiling technology for accurately
profiling flat panel displays, a new module
specifically optimized for creating digital
camera profiles, and an enhanced ProfileEditor.
An easy-to-use modular system enables efficient color management
ProfileMaker, the main application
module, compares reference data to
the measurement data, to calculate
ICC profiles for a broad range of input
and output devices, including flat
panel displays and digital cameras.
An on-screen preview of reference
and measurement data makes it easy
to confirm that you’ve chosen the
right data set.
Scanner and digital camera test charts
can be cropped symmetrically and
asymmetrically, eliminating the need
to use another application to prepare
your test data. To achieve the most
accurate digital camera profiles,
MeasureTool works with popular measurement devices including Spectrolino
and SpectroScan, handling all of the data
collection and calculation required for
accurate profile computation. It also lets
you quickly and easily configure your
color measurement devices. When used
with handheld instruments, MeasureTool can be interrupted and restarted,
enabling you to go back to the previous
patch and correct measurement errors
before the profile is computed.
ProfileMaker accounts for the lighting
when creating the profile, and uses the
GretagMacbeth ColorChecker DC color
reference chart to ensure that a broad
gamut of colors is represented.
ProfileMaker gives you maximum
control over the separation process,
allowing you to define settings for the
black start point, maximum amount of
black ink, total ink coverage, as well as
UCR and GCR. To speed the process,
recommended settings are provided for
common print processes. A powerful,
unique preserve gray function ensures
neutral grays remain neutral regardless
of the paper whiteness.
By comparing measurement data from
different test charts, MeasureTool checks
device stability and helps you determine
if data averaging is required. Averaging
is especially useful when profiling large
format devices that typically have large
dot sizes. Special test charts for press
applications help maximize profile
accuracy by compensating for density
variations inherent in the press.
ProfileEditor gives you complete control
over the editing process. You can edit
lightness, contrast, and saturation, as
well as any point on the gradation
curve. In addition, the new version 3.1
includes selective color correction so
you can fine-tune
specific colors in
your profile and
white point
correction for even
more accurate
proofing. To help
you quickly see the
effects of the edits
you have made, you can open any
image and apply the edited profile on
the fly –– all within the ProfileEditor
application.
ColorPicker uses ICC profiles to ensure
the best possible match for PANTONE®
and other special colors for the desired
output device. A reference library of
2,062 PANTONE®
colors for coated and
uncoated papers is
supplied with the
application.
In addition, ColorPicker permits you to
define your own color palettes. These
color palettes can be used in popular
desktop design applications. Based on a
selected profile, ColorPicker provides an
accurate display of measured and composed colors, showing you how well colors
can be reproduced by the output device.
BatchMatcher is the ideal solution for
automating the process of applying ICC
profiles. This allows you to maintain
your files and images in their original
color space and easily prepare them for
a variety of output, while also providing
the flexibility to color manage and
archive your files using the industry
standard, device independent D50 LAB
color space. Colors in your files can be
matched to any profiled RGB, Gray, or
CMYK device color space, or to the
device independent LAB color space.
BatchMatcher recognizes all of the popular file formats including TIFF, JPEG,
Scitex CT and PNG. BatchMatcher PS
also supports EPS and PostScript files.
Updating profiles based on measurement
of a limited number of patches saves
time vs. remeasuring the entire test
chart and making a new profile. You can
view and compare the gamut of different
profiles –– helping to give you a better
sense of the colors each device is
capable of imaging.
