In a few days time, thousands of devotees will take to the streets in the celebration of their devotion to Lord Murugan. In the past few years, this particular festival has left a bitter
aftertaste with many people, with regard to the rules and regulations concerning this festival.

In 2015, we had 3 devotees who were arrested. We also had an application at the High Court Application to overturn the ban on live music that was dismissed. The Hindu Endowments
Board(HEB) was at the receiving end of much of the displeasure. Ministers Shanmugam explained that Thaipusam being in a form of a foot procession is a privilege. Deputy Prime
Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam explained in a written answer to Parliament on why Thaipusam will not be a public holiday in Singapore. There were various petitions online. So
what has changed in 2016?

You can bring your traditional live music instruments while accompanying the kavadi bearer. But you will only be allowed to play your instruments at the live music points.Urumi melam
