Playing in the swing style of Benny Goodman, Bennett has stormed
more than fifty stages around the world, most notably Carnegie Hall.
Now he unleashes his versatility in piano and
song for a new program that surveys the
roots of pop music.
As they make their way back to Danville for the third time, Five By
Design will join the Danville Symphony Orchestra for an exciting
evening of Music of the Mad Men Era. Enjoy numbers made
popular by Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra,
Rosemary Clooney, and Bobby Darin.
Celebrate the conclusion of 50 seasons of marvelous concerts with
your orchestra as they perform two pieces sure to bring you to your
feet. Richard Strauss’s only concert work for piano and orchestra,
“Berleske,” was deemed unplayable in 1890, but
many artists have conquered it since, including
our pianist, Jonathan Bass. Journey through the
imagination of French composer Hector Berlioz
in his Symphonie Fantastique, the
orchestration of an early 19th-century
version of five episodes of the life of an
artist: “Reveries-Passions,” “A Ball,”
“Scene in the Fields,” “March to the
Scaffold,” and “Dream of the Night of the
Witches’ Sabbath.”
