SERVICES
1ST AND 3RD SUNDAYS
OF EACH MONTH
ERIC NORELIUS is
coming to Chisago Lake
Lutheran Church!
Sunday, October 4th, 2015
Pastor Rod Anderson,
Gustavus Adolphus
College, steps into the
historic shoes of Eric
Norelius, one of the first
pioneer ministers of our church.
Join us at 8:30 or 10:45 am
to hear him tell us about bringing the
Lutheran Church to the Swedes in
Minnesota in the 1850”s. Listen to his
stories of gathering the immigrants
together into congregations in those
early Swedish settlements, finding a
home for Gustavus Adolphus College
and founding Vasa Children’s Home for
the little orphaned ones!
He has phots and stories to tell!
Between services you will find Eric in the
Heritage room with more stories.
After the second service, join us in the
fellowship hall for a Power Point
presentation of this historic work and a
potluck meal.
COME, meet Eric Norelius and enjoy good
food and fellowship. Everyone is invited! Bring
a friend and a dish to share.
As I write this, Barb and I are on the north
shore of Lake Superior, hiking for 2 days
before Barb has her knee replaced. This
morning we hiked to Tettegouche Lake. As we
approached the lake I heard a rustling sound that
seemed to be moving closer. I looked for a tree to
climb confident that Barb could take care of the
bear. Suddenly, Barb said, "do you hear that? It's
acorns dropping.?" We were in the midst of oaks. I
was relieved! Then I was in awe that we were in
this place at the right time to witness this act of
nature in recreating itself, most of the time, when I
am not even aware of it. Scripture says that God
created in such a way that creation can keep
itself going. The Creator has made
creation, well, creative.
In our cabin , by the door as you leave, there is a
small sign that reads, “Every rock you remove from
our shoreline causes erosion. Our precious
shoreline is weakened with every stone removed
and we lose ground to the lake with every storm.
Please do not remove rocks larger than a
baseball.”
I am reminded that we humans, in small seeming
insignificant acts, can destroy what God has given
the power to create. Only we have the power to
limit our effect on the water, land and air. What
we don't do is more important than what we often
do.
Pastor Craig
October President’s Corner
I give you a new commandment, that you love
one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should
love one another. By this everyone will know that you
are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
John 13:34-35
Know your purpose. To have, know, and understand a clear
purpose and calling in this life is a blessing indeed. We all know
someone who can sing such that the spirit of God stirs within us
upon hearing their song or stand back in wonder as an organizing
dynamo executes a carefully orchestrated event in which everything
flows seamlessly. Living our purpose requires Jesus Christ to guide
us in a focused and refining way to faithfully live out our calling; as
individuals, within our community, and for the worldwide church.
Your church council has the challenging mission to discern
purpose, need, and priority in an ever-changing world where Christ
is center. After years of deliberation and planning we are prepared
to present plans for a building addition on the sanctuary level which
includes restrooms and an expanded Narthex. All members are
encouraged to attend a building addition forum with an opportunity
for questions and answers on Sunday, October 11th at 9:30 a.m. in the
Green Room. A special congregational meeting will be held on
Sunday, October 25th at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall in which a
vote will take place to seeking approval for the design plans.
We hope you will join us for a special Sunday on October 4th
with Pastor Rod Anderson from Gustavus Adolphus. He will be
dressed in period clothing as Eric Norelius and participating in both
worship services followed by a presentation and potluck dinner in
the Fellowship Hall. Come learn about one of the first pioneer
ministers at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church.
Also, please extend a warm welcome to the much-anticipated
arrival of our new Children, Youth, and Families Director, Stacy
Johnson. We hope in the coming months to grow our connection,
faith, friendship, love, and ministry through this important part of
our faith community.
This month I pray we may know, understand, and carry out
our purpose in love for Christ and each other. Peace in Christ to
you.

WANTED: Nursery attendant: We are still looking for a person to
fill our paid nursery attendant position. Sunday’s 8-noon. In the mean
time, we are looking for adult volunteers to rotate so we can offer this
important service to our members with young children. Please see
Theresa or the pastors if you are able to help out.
ALL CREATURES
GREAT AND SMALL…
are invited to the
“Blessing of the Animals”
at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church
Sunday, October 11th at 2 pm.
This is in commemoration of Francis of Assisi,
who renounced his wealth and future inheritance and devoted
himself to serving the poor. Francis had a spirit of gladness and
gratitude for all of God’s creation. This has been a traditional
time to bless pets and animals, creatures Francis called his
brothers and sisters. All animals, great and small, are welcome.
Large animals will be blessed outside of the sanctuary. Come
and bring your favorite pet to be blessed.
Sunday School and Wednesday JAM are off to a great start!
 We are really excited about our program this year and
plan to have the kids sing in church at least 4-5 times
throughout the year. Our first appearance will be on
October 11th during the second service.
 We would like to introduce the "Adopt-a-Classroom"
program for Sunday mornings. We are looking for
some adults to come into the class rooms to help with
the activities and read from the bible. This does not
need to be an every week commitment. Even if it's just
once a month, we would love to have more
involvement from the congregation.
JAM: Jesus and Me
Wednesday afternoons, kids in 1st – 5th grade come to church for bible lessons, fun,
and fellowship. We are looking for a driver to pick up kids from the Taylors Falls
School at approx. 3:30 and bring them to church each week. We are also looking for
some additional volunteers for adult supervision from about 3:40 to 5:30. We really
need a couple of extra hands to make this a successful program for our kids.
Thanks for your prayerful consideration.

To our friends at CLLC,
We have been blessed throughout this time following the death of our sweet
Bobby. Never have we felt such heartfelt love, compassion, and generosity surround
us. We give thanks to all the hugs, kind words, prayers, food, visits, and offers of help,
gifts and memorials in Bob’s name. Thanks to Dave, Dale, and Rod of the Faith Chest
team for building the beautiful benches for Bob. Thanks to the Service Groups for the
fantastic lunch that was served following the funeral service. The food provided at Bob’s
visitation was a great idea for our family members and friends and they were
grateful. Special thanks to Pastors Craig and Barb and Louise. Your help throughout our
loss is truly a God send.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Steve and Lisa, Jill, Sara, & Mark Sontag
Dear CLLC Scholarship Committee,
Thank you very much for the scholarshop. I needed it this year more than ever! I did

Your financial support means a lot to me and my future. Thank you also for the quilts
given to the seniors this spring. I will greatly appreciate the extra warmth as I try to
survive a Duluth winter!

Dear CLLC Scholarship Committee,
Thank you for the scholarship! I’ve moved from Carroll University in Wisconsin to

to use my summer job earnings for tuition! Thank you again, I greatly appreciate it!
Sincerely, Laura Burch
Dear CLLC,
The money I received from the scholarship will help me in many ways. Anything I
can get will help with tuition, books, and meals. Thank you so much.
