The Malaysian Software Testing Conference 2010 (SOFTEC2010) is becoming one of the foremost testing events in the region as the
conference enters its third year. Since the inaugural SOFTEC in 2008, the conference has succeeded in bringing together renowned
international speakers from the international quality community thus offering participants the latest in software testing.
SOFTEC2010 will continue to bring speakers who are industry experts and influential academician who are authorities in software
testing. The organizer, MSTB, continues to enhance the conference content and depth to ensure that IT professionals, academia,
students and business managers stand to gain knowledge, insights and shared experiences at SOFTEC2010.
SOFTEC is organized by the Malaysian Software Testing Board and is supported by the Government of Malaysia through the

The theme Bridging the Gap aspires to explore the discoveries and advancements in the software testing industry, and facilitate

professionals and service providers, towards confirming Malaysia’s position as the Testing Hub in the region. IT professionals in the
industry, government and academia will benefit greatly from SOFTEC2010 itself.
Software testing being a cognitively complex technical activity that combines area of knowledge and techniques, skills, processes,
good resources, technology, governance and leadership; and the nurtured experience towards ensuring software quality that has
become a key factor for the success of products / services and organization.

Who’s Behind The Conference?
Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB) is a voluntary and non-profit organization that represents
the national industry interests and promotes the broad profession of software testing. As a member of
the Interantioal Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) and sole certification authority in
Malaysia for International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB), MSTB provides the leadership and
regulates, the accreditation process and certification regulations for the Malaysian software industry;
through promoting the development of a common body of understanding and knowledge about
testing in alignment with ISTQB and IREB programmes that are internationally recognized it. It is
MSTB’s aspiration to create a pool of software testing professionals who have strong regards for their

Lee Copeland
Software Quality Engineering (SQE)

Lee Copeland has over thirty years experience as an information systems professional. He has held a number of
technical and managerial positions with commercial and non-profit organizations in the areas of applications
development, software testing, and software development process improvement. As a consultant with Software
Quality Engineering, Lee has developed and taught numerous training courses focusing on software development
and testing based on his extensive experience. In addition, he provides consulting services to SQE’s clients. He is a
well-known and highly regarded speaker at software conferences both in the United States and internationally. He
currently serves as Program Chair for the STAR testing conferences. Lee is the author of A Practitioner’s Guide to
Software Test Design, a compendium of the most effective methods of test case design.
Yasuharu Nishi
Assistant Professor
Nishi Lab, Department of Systems Engineering, University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan
Yasuharu NISHI is an Assistant Professor of Department of Systems Engineering, at the University of
Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan. A senior consultant on software testing he founded and chair the Testing
Engineer Forum as well as co-chair the Japan Symposium on Software Testing. He is also a director of the Society of
Embedded Software Skill Acquisition for Managers and Engineers (SESAME), and Secretary to both the Software
Professional Engineer’s Network and the Working group for Software Engineering of Accreditation Committee in the
Information Processing Society of Japan. Nishi was also a program committee of the Software Syposium 2005
organized by the Software Engineers Association as well as the 3rd World Congress for Software Quality. Nishi
received his M.Eng and Dr.Eng from the University of Tokyo in 2001 and thus far his research works are focused on
software testing, embedded software engineering, software process improvement, software project management,
software quality, software mental management, software risk management, software engineering education and etc.
Chris Rupp

Chris Rupp is the current President of the International Requirement Engineering Board and have 15 years
experience in the field of systems engineering. Rupp founded her own company of 40-strong employees, SOPHIST
Ltd. She claims that “Because of my passion for project consulting, up to now I’m not only managing, governing, and
bringing people forward, but I have been also trying going closer to the customer by working in-or leading- projects.” The
vision that guides her is the compelling force to put good ideas into practice in a way that gives developers, contract
partners and users the feeling that they are dealing with a sophisticated, elaborate and beneficial product. Other
than that her personal preferences (too many for too little time) are People, philosophy, red wine, travelling, and the
search for the meaning of life.

With a quarter-century of software and systems engineering experience, Rex Black is president and principal
consultant of RBCS, Inc., a leader in software, hardware, and systems testing. Rex specializes in working with clients
on engagements small, medium, and large to ensure complete satisfaction and positive ROI. He is the most prolific
author practicing in the field of software testing today. His popular book, Managing the Testing Process, has sold
over 25,000 copies around the world, including Japanese, Chinese, and Indian releases. Rex has also written three
other books on testing - Critical Testing Processes, Foundations of Software Testing, and Pragmatic Software Testing
- which have also sold thousands of copies, including Hebrew, Indian, Japanese and Russian editions. In addition, he

Dave Miller
VP, Software Quality Assurance, FedEx
USA
Dave joined FedEx in 2002. He is VP of Software Quality Assurance for FedEx, and provides best-practice processes
for the development of software. He is also responsible for the testing of software for package shipment, automated
package label generation, and revenue invoicing systems for Fedex. Dave has worked in Information Technology for
over 30 years. He received his BS in Computer Science from Oregon State University and his MS in Information
Theory from the Ohio State University. He spent over 20 years with AT&T, where he began his career with Bell
Telephone Laboratories developing and testing telephony business applications. Prior to joining FedEx, Dave was a
partner with KPMG Consulting, providing IT support to multiple Fortune 500 companies across the U.S.
Stuart Reid
Chief Technology Officer, Testing Solution Group
Founder, International Software Qualification Board (ISTQB), UK
Stuart Reid is Chief Technology Officer at Testing Solutions Group. He has 27 years experience in the IT industry,
working in development, testing and education. Application areas range from safety-critical to financial. In addition
to his work at TSG, Stuart also supports the worldwide testing community in a number of roles. He is convener of
the ISO Software Testing Working Group, which is developing the new ISO 29119 Software Testing standard and is
the software testing representative at BSI. He currently chairs the BCS Specialist Group in Software Testing and also
chaired the ISEB Software Testing Panel through the initial years of qualification development. Stuart founded the
International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) to promote software testing qualifications on a global
scale and still works on both ISTQB and ISEB working groups. A popular speaker at conferences on software testing,
he’s been invited to present keynotes, tutorial and track sessions in Europe, Asia, Australasia, and the US. He chaired
EuroSTAR 2007, Europe’s largest ever software testing conference with over 1200 attendees, won the European
Testing Excellence award in 2001, and he regularly writes articles on software testing for magazines.
Dr. Jeff Offutt
Professor of Software Engineering, Volgenau School of Information Technology
George Mason University
Dr. Jeff Offutt is a full professor of Software Engineering in the Volgenau school of Information Technology at George
Mason University. He also holds a part-time visiting faculty position at University of Skövde, Skövde Sweden,
contributing expertise on software engineering and software testing. Dr. Offutt received a PhD in computer science
from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1988. As the editor-in-chief of Wiley's journal of Software Testing,
Verification and Reliability, Dr. Offutt has been invited to speak throughout the US, Japan, China, and Sweden and is a
regular viewer for NSF and several major research journals. He has been involved in a number of software
proof-of-concept research systems, including muJava, Mothra and Godzilla to name a few. His current projects include
testing of web applications, analysis and testing of object-oriented software, measuring software maintenance of
open-source software, and deriving tests from formal specifications of safety critical software.
William Scherlis, PhD
Director, Institute for Software Research
William L. Scherlis is a full Professor in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon. Dr. Scherlis joined the
CMU faculty after completing a PhD in Computer Science at Stanford University, a year at the University of
Edinburgh (Scotland) as a John Knox Fellow, and an A.B. at Harvard University. He was lead Principal Investigator of
the High Dependability Computing Project (HDCP), in which CMU led a collaboration with five universities to help
NASA address long-term software dependability challenges. Scherlis chairs the National Research Council (NRC)
study committee on defense software producibility and is a member of the NRC study committee on cybersecurity.
With over 70 scientific publications under his belt, William Scherlis’s career is filled with advisory roles with major IT
companies and software related studies and projects.

Sigrid Eldh

Sigrid Eldh is a well known leader in the software testing field. With a M.Sc. in Computer Science, a Technical
Licentiate, and more than 25 years of practice she is now aiming for a PhD in test design techniques. She also holds
a diploma as an Organization/Psychotherapy consultant. Having held many positions at Ericsson, HP, Governance
and other type of companies, she is now working at Ericsson cross-company support for Process and Methods in
Software Development, Integration and Verification. She was the co-founder of SAST, ASTA, ISTQB and SSTB.
Through her work she has helped organizations, test managers and testers around the world to reach better quality.
Professor Jasbir Dhaliwal
Director, Software Testing Excellence Program(STEP)

Professor Jasbir Dhaliwal is Director of the Systems Testing Excellence Program at the FedEx Institute of Technology
which is based at the University of Memphis, and where he also serves as Associate Dean for Research and Academic
Programs. He is a graduate of the University of Malaya and holds master and doctoral degrees from the University of
British Columbia in Canada. Over the years he has published many scholarly papers in the top research journals in
information systems and has also consulted extensively to large software development and testing organizations in
Asia, Europe and North America. The STEP initiative (step.memphis.edu) represents the largest international group of
academic researchers focused intensively on advancing the science of software testing by integrating computer
science, information systems and engineering perspectives.
M. Jeff Brittain

Mr. Jeff Brittain is Senior Vice-President for Cook Systems International (www.CookSys.com) a global IT consulting
services organization based in the USA. Over the course of his 22 year career, Mr. Brittain has served over 80 corporate
and government entities in the designing, building, testing, and deploying of software to end-users in over 200
countries. Mr. Brittain started his IT career at the consulting giant Accenture where he progressed from a mainframe
programmer to having responsibility for global rollouts with budgets over $300 million USD. As Senior Vice-President,
Jeff leads the global software testing practice within Cook Systems International. This practice leverages unique
research capabilities to provide strategic and tactical testing services. Key initiatives for global clients include
software test organization and skill set benchmarking, transition to agile methodologies, risk-based test frameworks,
and test process estimation. Most recently, he completed a test case optimization project for a large global banking
organization. Jeff is currently leading the testing processes for global travel systems created by a consortium of
companies from Asia, Europe, and the US and deployed to over 52 countries serving millions of travelers. He has also
pioneered a unique collaboration model that has involved over 100 university students in the performance of
software test planning, automation, and execution services for key production systems that support global hotel
companies, multi-national natural resource companies, government entities, and global travel management
companies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma State University.
Bernard Homes

Founder and principal consultant for TESSCO Technologies Inc (a Software Testing & Training consultancy), Bernard
Homes is past-member of the board if IEEE(France) and active in various software testing associations and
workgroups. After 25+ years in software development and testing with different consultancies, he set up the TESSCO
group in Europe and Canada to provide training and consultancy services worldwide. Bernard is now in charge of
quality assurance for EuroCopter Group, the world leader in helicopter design and manufacturer. Homes is also
president of the French Software Testing Board (www.cftl.net), and participated in the founding of the Global
Association for Software Quality (www.gasg.org) and of AST. Homes represents France at the ISTQB and chairs the
ISTQB Advanced Level syllabus working party.

Alessandro Collino

A graduate in Computer Science and Information Engineering at the “Politecnico” of Milan, Collino has been
involved in various medium-sized and large projects for companies that range from Avionics, Aerospace, Energy,
Industrial to Telecommunications.While he is currently working on innovative platforms for UMTS (in avionic), he has
worked on all the phases of a complete classical product life cycle, ranging from specification to acceptance testing.
Collino mainly focuses his efforts on verification and validation activities such as the certification of an embedded
system for a real-time application, according to the DO-178B standard in avionics. Based in Italy and Collino
represents Italy as ISTQB member and is an active speaker at software conferences, as well as being a program
committee member of important conferences; an author for testing magazines, and he is very much involved in the
Agile community which led him to being the program chair of the Agile Testing Days conference in Berlin.
Prof. Dr. Ina Schieferdecker

Germany
Prof. Dr. Ina Schieferdecker studied Mathematical Computer Science at Humboldt-University Berlin and did her PhD
in 1994 at Technical University Berlin on performance-extended specifications and analysis of QoS characteristics.
Since 1997, she is heading the Competence Center for Testing, Interoperability and Performance (TIP) at the
Fraunhofer Institute on Open Communication Systems (FOKUS), Berlin and is heading now the Competence Center
Modelling and Testing for System and Service Solutions (MOTION). She is Professor on Engineering and Testing of
Telecommunication Systems at Technical University Berlin since 2003. Prof. Schieferdecker works since 1994 in the
area of design, analysis, testing and evaluation of communication systems using specification-based techniques like
UML (Unified Modelling Language), MSC (Message Sequence Charts) and TTCN-3 (Testing and Test Control
Notation). Prof. Schieferdecker authored many scientific publications in the area of system development and testing.
She is co-founder of the Testing Technologies IST GmbH, Berlin and member of the German Testing Board. She
received in 2004 the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen and Halbach Award for Young Professors.
Rainer Grau

Rainer Grau has been in the field of software and system development for 18 years, starting from basic writing
source code in more then 5 programming languages and technologies including Java and Microsoft .NET. His career
path covered technology scout, architect, project lead to the definition of systems and development processes to
create these systems.Throughout his professional career, Grau also gave much attention to transfer of knowledge in
the form of coaching and training. When he was CEO to a software consulting company between 2000 – 2004, Grau
also served as adjunct professor in Software Engineering at the International University in Bruchsal.He started
managing the Education Centre of Zühlke in 2004 and build up the focus group for Requirements Engineering. Grau
also get involved in local and international organizations that are committed to the tasks of shaping best suited
development processes and professionalizing requirements engineering. Meanwhile he continues to help
customers on their way through the jungle of optimizing development processes, especially in the discipline of
requirements engineering and works as trainer and coach.
Robert Sabourin

Robert Sabourin, P. Eng., has more than twenty-five years of management experience leading teams of software
development professionals. A well-respected member of the software engineering community, Robert has
managed, trained, mentored, and coached hundreds of top professionals in the field. He frequently speaks at

Substitution of Delegates
Substitution is allowed, with prior written notification of the name and the
designation of the new delegate(s) at least 72 hours before the
commencement of the conference. Transfer of registration to other
programmes is not allowed.
Cancellations & Refund of Fees
All cancellation of confirmed registrations must be made in writing to the
MSTB SOFTEC 2010 Secretariat. In the event of cancellation, some
administrative charges will be levied. If cancellations are received:

(non-VIP seating only)
• More than 30 days before the event, a full refund of the paid fee
less 15% administrative charges will apply, or 15% of the invoice
amount will be charged.
• 30 to 15 days before the event, a 50% refund of the the
invoiced/paid fee wil apply, or 50% of the invoice amount will be
charged.
• Less than 15 days before the event, no refund will be given but as a token
of appreciation of interest, a substitute delegate is most welcome to take
your place, or a set of event documentation will be delivered to you
upon request.
