HISTORY
Rose and Mark Cain established Head Studio 21
years ago in beachside Rockingham on the south
coast of Western Australia. From italian farmers to
hairdressing, Rose started the salon with her sister
Gloria and one apprentice with four chairs available
for clients.
Some years later Rose is still on the front line with
over 30 staff that are spread across three locations.
Head Studio was founded on a passion to succeed
in the wonderful industry of hair fashion and 20
years on is as strong as ever.

Trophy model Kaitlyn
Rose has developed a culture within the company
that strives for the highest quality in creativity and
service. A credit to Roseʼs leadership has been
Donna Palmer, who has been with her for 15 years
and Samantha Linnet for 10 years. Sam has been a
huge support on the management side and Donna
from the creative side.
Fresh blood was injected in 2003, when creative
director (and daughter of Rose) Marie Cain started
at Head Studio. Marie has boosted Head Studio
with her artistic profile and incredible drive.
2004 bought Rose and Markʼs son Mark to the
team. Mark has a passion for creativity and
business development. He plans to push the Head
Studio brand as it raises bars and sets standards
within the industry.
Together, they make a dynamic group with a great
vision and the will do what it takes to push the
boundaries and succeed.
The Head Studio brand is just warming up.

RELEASE
The LʼOreal Professionnel Colour trophy national competition is heralded as the award of all awards in
Australian hairdressing. In 2007 Head Studio not only won the state and national titles but took home a
staggering 5 awards on the night. This was the culmination of 19 years of passion and dedication from Rose
and Mark Cain. “We were completely blown away! To win it as a mother-daughter combination is truly
amazing” gushed Marie. Head Studio then went on to win the 2007 International Hairdressing Society
Western Australian Salon Group of the year.
Finally Head Studio had arrived on the national stage! This would then start an unbelievable amount of
opportunities to push the brand to the rest of the nation. Following a number of press in national and
international glossy magazines Head Studio would begin to rise within the industry.
2008 was set to be the first year that Head Studio entered the Australian Hairdressing Awards, which is the
night of nights within the hairdressing industry. Head Studio entered the Salon team of the year award and in
the first year was nominated for the national salon team of the year. One of three salons in the nation to be
nominated. This competition was based around business achievements, creative achievements and what
Head Studio has done for the industry and how the salon has improved the industry.
In June 2008 Head Studio King Street opened with brother-sister combination Marie, Mark and Joshua. The
west end salon provides something new to salons in Perth, with a relaxed, welcoming feel that mixes high
fashion with personalised service. Mid 2009 Head Studio went on to win back to back International
Hairdressing Society Salon Group of the year with an amazing 39 of a possible 72 awards. With Kailah King
winning the 2009 Apprentice of the year award.
Just on a year after opening the 3rd location Head Studio was once again nominated for Salon Team of The
Year at the Australian Hairdressing Awards and Marie Cain was nominated for New Creative Force. The
young team from Head Studio turned heads in the finalist gallery at the Sydney Convention Center.
To finish off the year in 2009 Head Studio continues to grow and work with some of the best people within the
nation and the state. Head Studio played a large part in the Perth Fashion Festival with Marie Cain the
assistant hair director for the festival. Marie assisted LʼOreal events Manager Mark Thompson. Head Studioʼs
involvement extended to lead-up campaigns with magazines such as the STM, Express, U fashion and
channel 7 and 9 on various shows to promote the festival.
Head Studio have bold plans for the future and will do what it takes to grow within the wonderful industry of
hair fashion. The brand has aspirations to promote their own local talent to stardom. Rose, Marie and Mark
believe in taking everyone along for the ride. The Head Studio brand is built on a “TEAM” mentality, the ideals
that we can all achieve more together. When you look back on all the major awards and achievements, the
Head Studio team has been the winner.
Keep an eye out for the rise of the Head Studio brand.

THE
SALON
Housed in a 1898 warehouse, the newest
edition to Head Studio is nestled in the west
end fashion district of Perth on King street.
where Louis Vuitton stands along side Tiffany
and Co. Some of Western Australiaʼs top
local designers and brands like Rick Owens
and Vivienne Westwood in Perthʼs hottest
boutiques.
Rose, Marie and Mark opened the King
street salon in June 2008. The salon has an
old world feel with modern touches. Spread
over 180 square meters the salon has
capacity for only 18 clients at one time. This
is due to Marie and Mark wanting to create a
relaxed, homely feel for Head Studio clients.
This is helped by some family heirlooms
such as the red velvet couches, Rose and
Marie's old dressing table and even some
silver ware.
for further information please contact [email protected] or please call (08) 94816464
The colour room is on the first floor with the
styling room on the ground floor. Both areas
are unique and beautiful with upstairs having
open eaves of wooden trusses and a raw brick
finished window with lovely huge arches that
have been there since 1898. Downstairs has
large barn doors with steel girder stairs and
large open ceilings filled with steel beams.
The grand old building mixed with some of the
most advanced hairdressing equipment gives a
wonderful feel for Head Studioʼs clients. The
consultation lounge and coffee bar is a
favourite. Mark believes that not only does
Head Studio have to be the best at what they
do on the technical side, everything else has to
stack up also. Even down to the coffees and
the way they are presented.
The mens area is stunning and provides an
escape for Head Studioʼs male clientele for a
clean shave or new style. In the pipeline for
early 2010 is for the salon to develop a V.I.P
room for those clients who wants the undivided
attention from their stylist in their own room.
Our Rockingham location is
set by the sea. A beautiful
salon set-up that takes in the
south west coastline. The
salon has a strong beach feel
that is set to expand in 2010.
With 21 years under the belt
the Rockingham salon keeps
growing each year and
needs to expand once more
to satisfy a largely bulging
appointment book.
The success salon is nestled
in amongst the Cockburn
gateway shopping center and
has a similarity to both of the
other locations. It is lead by
Samantha Linnet who has
been part of our family now
for over 10 years.
Head Studio have a passion
to stay ahead of the pack
and keep evolving to become
one of the leading salons in
the country.

Fever
As spring arrives and leaves burst golden hues, so too are
the latest hair trends. Faded out coppers, warm blondes
and cool chalky tones merge with flyaways, frizz and waves.
L’Oréal Professionnel
L’Oréal Professionnel
As spring hits and the days lighten and brighten, so
to do colour trends and according to Marie Cain,
Creative Director of WA’s Head Studio, “Spring is all
about embracing the warmth of your colour, through
the ends and lengths rather than as a block colour.
The trend is to hang onto re-growth or slightly darker
roots but begin to move into lighter shades on the
ends in preparation for summer,” says Marie. Apart
from being very ‘lived in’, the new colour look is much
softer and more wearable than typical block colour
or foils with a move away from icy blondes to much
warmer and richer tones.
Marie foresees cutting will embrace classic shapes
whilst breaking the rules to create something
interesting. With longer hair getting even longer and
increasingly middle parted for a 70s vibe, Marie
suggests tackling a grown-out fringe by having it sit
on the cheekbones. With shorter styles still firmly
on the radar Marie predicts “shape will exhibit lots
of disconnection and extraction to create interesting
textures – long pieces will clash with short within a
cropped haircut.”
In terms of styling, the structured ironed curl has
been shown the door making way for classic tonged
40s waves, without the high gloss shine, and
with a fluffier more frizzy finish. “It’s all about the
eyes and cheekbones so when creating wave and
movement in the hair, start the wave from the top
of the cheekbone, keeping the top of the hair flatter
and closer to the head,” says Marie. Other styling
predictions include top knots and the faux undercut
for those not brave enough to embrace the real thing.
