CROSSWEAVE BRA
Prerequisite: NONE
This lesson uses a simple ladder stitch to form a beautiful bracelet.
For bracelets such as these, I tend to use monofilament when I want
to make sure the thread can’t be seen.
Monofilament is a stiff nylon thread and therefore does not require a
needle.
To begin, cut approximately 1 metre of monofilament. Pick up an
8mm crystal using the tail end of the monofilament and move it to the
centre.

* 4mm crystal bicones
* 8mm round crystals
* size 11 seed beads
* .35mm Monofilament
(illusion cord)
* 2 x jump rings
* 2 x clam shells
HOW MANY SEED BEADS DO I NEED?
You will need to thread on between 3 and 7 seed
beads either side of the 8mm crystal.
You need enough seed beads so that they meet
comfortably at the top of the 8mm.
For the size of my bead, 7 seed beads are too
many.......
6 seed beads on each side seems to be the right
amount for the sized beads that I am using. The
two sides of seed beads almost reach each other
at the top of the 8mm bead.
Make sure you do the size check each time you
make the bracelet as seed beads certainly come in
a range of shapes and sizes. The ones I am
using today are more of a rondelle shaped bead.
Add a seed bead to one end of the monofilament.
Pass the other end of the monofilament the
opposite way through the seed bead.
This is called a crossweave!
Pull each end of the monofilament tightly so that
your beads join to form a circle.
Make sure the tail ends of your monofilament are
equal.
Add a 4mm bicone to each tail
Next thread on a 4mm bicone to each side.
Add (6) seed beads to each tail (or however many
seed beads you decided to use)
Now we repeat........ Add (6) seed beads and a
4mm crystal to each tail end
Add an 8mm crystal to one tail of the
monofilament. Crossweave the end of the other
monofilament in the opposite direction through
the 8mm crystal.
Crossweave through a single seed bead and pull
tight.
Pull the ends tight
Add a 4mm bicone and (6) seed beads to each
tail.
Crossweave through an 8mm crystal.
Pattern:
(6) seed beads and one 4mm bicone
Crossweave through one seed bead
one 4mm bicone and (6) seed beads
Cross weave through one 8mm crystal.
THE CLASP
Add the bar end of the clasp to one jump ring and
the loop end of the clasp to the other jump ring.
Add 6 seed beads and a 4mm bicone to each tail
end of the monofilament.
Repeat the pattern until you have 5 x 8mm
crystals on your bracelet. Finish at the crossweave
of the 8mm crystal.
Thread both tails ends IN THE SAME DIRECTION
through a single seed bead. Then through a
clamshell - entering the clamshell from the
outside edge.
Thread on another seed bead again with both tails
going IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
Cut off the tail ends of the monofilament as close
to the knot as possible.
Tie an overhand knot (see Skills and Equipment
for instructions on how to tie an overhand knot)
and pull down close to the seed bead.
When you are happy with your finished end, glue
the knot in place.
Using the chain nose pliers, gently squeeze the
clamshell closed.
I usually lay my work on a piece of plastic at this
stage so as not to get glue onto my bead mat.
Add a jumpring (with the clasp piece attached)
onto the clamshell hook.
Using the round nose pliers, carefully close the
hook.
After you have crossed through the final 8mm
crystal, add 6 seed beads and one 4mm bicone to
each monofilament tail.
Cut a 60cm piece of monofilament.
Thread it through the 8mm crystal of your
bracelet (the bead that you began with) until the
beads sits at the half way point of the
monofilament.
Repeat the beading pattern:
Add 6 seed beads and one 4mm bicone
Crossweave through one seed bead
Add one 4mm bicone and 6 seed beads
Cross weave through one 8mm crystal
Thread both ends of the monofilament through a
single seed bead IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
Next thread through a clamshell making sure to
enter from the outside edge.
Continue repeating the pattern until your bracelet
is approximately 3 cm less than your required
finish length.
Average bracelet size : 18cm = 15 cm of
beading.
Larger bracelet size: 20cm = 18 cm of
beading.
Smaller bracelet size: 16cm = 13cm of
beading.
Add one more seed bead making sure both ends
of the monofilament are going in the same
direction.
Tie a knot in the monofilament close to the last
seed bead.
Glue the knot. Once it is dry cut the ends close
the knot .
Carefully squeeze the clamshell closed using your
chain nose pliers.
As before, add a jump ring (with the other end of
the clasp attached) to the hook and close the
hook using your round nose pliers
Your bracelet is now complete and ready to wear!
