A Note From the Director
When you think of a fun, feel-good musical, Bye Bye Birdie is
sure to be one of the first to come to mind. It’s nice when a
show has a great script and score but the amazing talent of
our hard-working actors has made this show one of my
favorites. Thanks for making the show terrific - I couldn’t have
asked for a better cast! The people who work behind the
scenes deserve just as much applause for their dedication but
they’ll have to make due with my thanks.
Steve Lottes is the best set designer around, takes care of our
lights and sound, lays out our program and is quite a dancer,
too. If it needs to be done, he does it well. Colette Miller
keeps the backstage chaos under control and made a fine
understudy for nearly every person in the cast. Tori Wakefield
is following in her footsteps and doing a great job
backstage. Nancy DiYenno made the vocal harmonies sound
just lovely. Terri Sheffer helped create the fabulous 50’s look
this show needs. Karen Malone does a great job organizing
the front of the house and is the thrift store queen of props
and costumes, too. Brigid Bandomer took on the box office
and the daunting task of seating. Jamie Westman makes sure
people know who we are and what we are doing. Cat Davies is
our photographer, Samantha Lottes and Nicole Martin
designed our program art and Arielle Thomas created our tshirt art. We’ve got some very artistic ladies. Denise Chant
and Leslie Romanuski are terrific seamstresses, and Leslie also
takes on the job of producer and makes it look easy. Rob
Kristie is always ready to step in and wear a new hat....but my
favorite is Shriner. I’ve always said Fay Schanne is the best
choreographer around, but she’s outdone herself this
time.
This show has some of my favorite dances of all
time. Thank you, thank you, thank you to them, to the tech
crew and to everyone who volunteered their time to make this
show a success.
As a director, I try to make sure every actor has their moment
in the spotlight and leave the audience with a great theatre
experience. With Bye Bye Birdie I think I succeeded on both
counts. I am so proud of this production and hope you enjoy
your visit to Sweet Apple as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing it
to the stage.
