North Cyprus
This beautiful country has different features around the
island. North Cyprus geographically divides into two parts by
the Five Finger Mountains. Thousands of achres of land are
highly fertile from the Eastern (Famagusta) to the Western
(Lefke) side of the island. The skirts of the mountain introduce
naturally rich soil where various types of gardens stand.
North Cyprus consists of 5 main cities; Nicosia, Famagusta, İskele,
Kyrenia and Morphou. According to Researches 57% of the land
is efficient for agricultural plantation as well as investment for
industry (new industrial areas), construction and tourism.
As a result of high demand for dairy and meat products the industry
has been encouraged by the government to increase production
for these sectors. Breeding in North Cyprus is very organic and
for this reason these products have very high quality giving them
great unique taste. Halloumi Cheese also known as Hellim is one
of the most popular cheese around the world and it was firstly
originated from this wonderful island. As like other Mediterranean
countries North Cyprus has different areas of afforestation which
keep the island green throughout the year. This also introduces a
new industry sector to do with honey.
The Industrial Sector plays an important role regarding
to North Cyprus’s economy. The Industrial sector
has developed in many different types of categories
with
new
developed
technological
machinery.
The lovely Mediterranean climate allows the island to share
the warm weather throughout the year provides suitable
conditions for the all Mediterranean agriculture products. The
agricultural products which are produced mainly consist of
Citrus, Olives, Olive oil, Potatoes, Artichokes, Carob, Water Melon,
Melon, Peach, Grapes and Dates. There are also other types of
contemporary agricultural products such as Wheat and Barley.
North Cyprus has many SMEs around the island. Nicosia has 2
main industrial zones where many factories stand with relevant
sectors from furniture, construction , food and cleaning materials.
Famagusta and Kyrenia also have industrial zones . An advantage
in Famagusta and Kyrenia is that they both have free zone
harbour’s available making it easy to trade and export around the
world.
ORANGE

Valencia Oranges
North Cyprus enjoys international recognition for the quality of
its lemons. North Cyprus lemons have thin skin and incredible
juiciness. The smell and the juice quality of North Cyprus
Lemons are one of the best in the world.
Season: October – February
Yafa Orange (Shamouti) Main Varieties: White Marsh Seedless, Rio Red
Jaffa Oranges are also very famous for being known as
Shamouti Oranges that contain no seeds. Jaffa Oranges are
also known for their oval shape and the way it is easily peeled
from the fruit. As the fruit has tough skin it is easily exported
around the world.
Season: December- January
MANDARINE
Mandora
The Mandora synthesizes the Mandarine and Orange. The
Mandora has a flat shape. Due to pulp being tender and juicy
it often exceeds 60 percent of the weight. Eventhoguh the fruit
is sweet it still keeps the balance between its acidity and rich
aroma. High demand from Turkey and Europe has allowed this
variety to increase its levels in export.
Season: January – March
Clementine
The Clementine is a type of Mandarin Orange which is also
known as Citrus Reticulata. The Clementine has no seeds and
is very juicy which increases in sales because it is easily edible
mainly for children as well as adults.

LEMON
Valencia Oranges are grown for many purposes; eating,
processing, oils and mainly for orange juice production. The
seeds that contain in the fruit vary from zero to six. When
the orange is fully ripe it contains a sweet, juicy taste making
fresh markets and supermarkets demanding the Valencia
Oranges for their amazing taste and excellent Orange colour.
The fruit has an average diameter of 2.7 to 3 inches (70 – 76
mm). Valencia Oranges are mainly exported to the Middle
East, Asia and Europe.

GRAPEFRUIT
Fresh from North Cyprus grown without any added chemicals
just with fresh water. It has a high juice and sweeter taste
than other grape fruits which is a result of virtually perfect
growing conditions.

CITRUS ESSENCE OIL
The citrus essence oils are used for medical and psychological
reasons it is essential for treatment of anger management,
reducing anxiety, confidence, memory and concentration. Main
export destination is Turkey.
POTATOES
North Cyprus Potatoes are grown in the unique environment
that is a perfect blend of the red soil in Cyprus which
has a higher mineral content, and the sunny midMediterranean climate. No other combination of these two
factors are found anywhere else in the world, and thus
nowhere else one can find these unique tasting potatoes.
Cyprus Potatoes are harvested two times a year: Autumn and
Spring harvest. Spring potatoes are harvested for sale earlier
than the most other European and Middle Eastern countries.
The main export destinations are Turkey and Europe.
Favourable climate conditions in North Cyprus leads to early
harvesting where the spring crop is harvested from April to June
and the fall crop is harvested from November to December.
North Cyprus also offers GLOBAGAP certified potatoes to the
leading markets.

ARTICHOKES
The variety grown in North Cyprus is called the Green Globe.
The Northern Cyprus weather and soil is very suitable for
growing green globe variety artichokes with a diameter of 9.5cm.
These types of artichokes contain magnesium, dietary fiber and
chromium which involve Vitamin C and Vitamin A. Modern
facilities are available for the production of heart Artichokes
which are supplied as; fresh, frozen and concentrated. These
products can be provided throughout the year.
Season: January – May.
POMEGRANATES
Pomegranate is a leading source of healthy antioxidants.
North Cyprus have started to produce pomegranates
with proper methodology since 2006. North Cyprus has
a suitable ecology for pomegranate growing. Since last
10 years production of pomegranate fruits has increased
significantly due to new cultivation areas and investors.
The modest production over the last years was replaced with a
professional and rational investment program in pomegranates
production which has already led to higher demand for North
Cyprus pomegranates crops.

KOLOKAS
Kolakas is a type of vegetable grown mainly in Cyprus for its
edible roots named Taro and Eddoe. This plant has been in
Cyprus since the time of the Roman Empire which has early
cultivation and can be harvested easy. The increasing demand
for exportation has increased the amounts produced and mainly
90 % of the exports are made to United Kingdom.
CAROB
The Carob tree is one of the traditional trees of North
Cyprus and for that reason North Cyprus is a well known
country for providing organic carobs to worldwide markets.
Almost 50% of the production of Carobs including the
Carob seed and grounded Carob are exported each year.
Pods: Carob pods are mainly relished by animals such as
rabbits, horses and goats where they are crushed by a hammer
mill. The crushed pods are generally used in dog biscuits.
Seeds: Seeds of carobs can be used in many factors of production.
This valuable seed is famous in the usage and production of;
paint, ink, textiles, paper, insecticides and
shoe polish.
The seed can also be used in many other
applications for producing products that involve rubber.
Carob is considered as the “black gold” of North Cyprus and seeds
of the crop are used to make locust bean gum - sometimes
known as Ceratonia or carob bean gum which is a high value
export commodity.
CACTUS FRUIT/ PRICKLY PEAR
This traditional Cactus fruit has been growing in Cyprus for
generations. It has a thick coating of prickles and as you peel the
coat underneath remains a golden colour fruit with edible seeds.
This juicy delicious tasting fruit tastes even better after being
refrigerated .It has a high demand in the EU because it has been
proved to contain antioxidants.
Season: August - September
CAPERS
North Cyprus has perfect growing conditions for capers and the
crop already exist wild in the Island. As the worldwide demand is
increasing for this crop.
Caper Products: caper buds, berries, and leaves.
MELONS & WATERMELONS
Of all the locally available fruits they are by far the most popular
both among locals and holidaymakers. Plenty of water and
abundant sunshine is what this nutritious fruit needs in order to
reach our meal tables. Production has risen significantly in the
last years and new varieties are produced which makes North
Cyprus melons more suitable for export markets.

CIGARETTES AND PIPE TOBACCO
One of the best quality products of North Cyprus. Cigarette
packing factory in Nicosia produces for local consumption and for
export to Turkey only. On the other hand tobacco leaf production
is targeted just for US and Germany pipe tobacco markets.

Tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, broccoli, cucumber and cauliflower.

CHICKEN AND POULTRY PRODUCTS
Eggs, Whole Chicken, Wings, Breast, Chicken in Sauce, Legs
(Thigh, Drumstick, Talenks, Shank), Giblet (Liver, Gizzard, Neck,
Heart...) are all processed under perfectly hygienic conditions.
All stages of production are under the control of veterinary,
food engineers. Moreover ISO 22000 inspections are carried
out by independent firms as well as the government. The
largest Chicken and Poultry establishment in the Eastern
Mediterranean is at North Cyprus.
Main export destinations are Middle East, Asia and Turkey.
TURKEY
Turkey is a popular poultry product which is regularly used.
This delicious tasting poultry product is mainly sold as a whole
but it can also be sold sliced. Sliced Turkey is usually used in
sandwiches or served in larger pieces. Turkey is a much more
healthy type of meat when comparing it to beef. Turkey in North
Cyprus has a unique taste due to the cultivation and breeding
technique.
OSTRICH
The Ostrich is mainly famous for its eggs and feathers. The
popularity of Ostrich eggs have recently increased because it is
one of the largest eggs of any living bird. The egg produced is
so large that it can feed a family of 4 or even 15.
MEAT AND MEAT PRODUCTS
Sausages, Salami, Pastrami (Pastırma)
Sausages, Salami, Pastrami (Pastırma), are produced by
companies throughout North Cyprus under hygienic conditions.

Samarella
Traditional meat for Cyprus. Samarella is made of pieces of
goat meat salted and hung in the sun to dry for approximately
10 days. It is seasoned with dried oregano to give its perfect
taste. In North Cyprus Samarella is produced for local market
but the production can be increased.
Şeftali Kebab (Sheftali Kebap)
Sheftali Kebap in Cyprus is very traditional and has been
part of the Cypriot menu for decades. The Sheftali Kebap is in
a shape of a sausage and the filling contains lamb shoulder
or leg mixed mince with finely chopped onion and parsley, salt,
and pepper. Membrane that surrounds the stomach of lamb is
used to wrap the ingredients rather than sausage casing.

FISH
Fishing farms in North Cyprus have improved production in the
last 10 years. There are mainly two fish farms for production of
sea bream and sea bass species. Total production capacity is
750 tons / Year.
SEA FISHING
The most common varieties of fish in North Cyprus are Groupers
(Lagoz), Little Tuna (Orkinos), Scorpion fish (Iskorpit), Pandora,
Red Mullet (Barbun), Striped Mullet (Tekir), Common Dentex
(Sinarit), White Sea-Bream (Sorgoz), Common Two Banded SeaBream (Karagöz), Mackerel. Spine feet (Sokan - Çarpan)
Milk Producers of North Cyprus follow newest technology
in the sectors of dairy products. In the last decade the
milk production sector has developed itself according to
EU regulations. Pasteurized milk with fruit flavors are also
produced. Producers have prepared and implemented critical
product points and analysis. All the exporting companies have
ISO 22000 and HACCP certifications.
HELLIM – HALLOUMI
(TRADITIONAL CYPRUS CHEESE)
Hellim cheese or Halloumi originated in Cyprus and has been
around for hundreds of years . Hellim is very popular worldwide
due to its distinguished quality and unique taste. Hellim/
Halloumi can be made from different types of ways such as either
from cow’s milk or sheep’s milk or a mixture of both. It is white
with a distinctive layered texture and slightly has a salty flavour.
Hellim/Halloumi is not very high in fat and it is
excellent source of protein. It is very rich in calcium
that is essential for healthy teeth and bones.
The flavor of ‘Hellim/Halloumi’ is very appealing, unlike any
other cheese; it is so versatile that it can be consumed fresh
or used in cooking; can be fried until brown without melting
due to its higher than normal melting point; making it a good
cheese for frying or grilling. It can be grated on top of pasta
and other dishes or used as a stuffing for ravioli and pastries,
fried in cubes and served in soup. Also tastes delicious when
used as an ingredient in salads, served with vegetables and as
a sandwich ingredient. Helloumi is mainly exported to Turkey,
Middle –East and the UK.
AYRAN
Produced with yogurt water and salt it’s a summer time
favorite drink to cool down. It is also good for the health since it
does not contain sugar, it is one of the few ways of obtain salt
in summer months where your body dehydrates and loose salt
which can be dangerous and nothing is better to digest a kebab
dish better than a cold refreshing glass of Ayran.
YOGURT, BUTTER, ICE CREAM
North Cyprus Milk Products Producers use latest technology
equipments in the production of milk, halloumi, butter, cheeses,
yoghurt, yoghurt with fruits and ice-cream varieties, which are
manufactured under extremely hygienic conditions.
FRESH CHEESE
Other than Halloumi (Hellim) cheese types in North Cyprus
are Fresh Kasar Cheese , Fresh White Cheese and Mozzarella.
Fresh Kasar Cheeses which are mostly produced from
cow’s milk are vacuum-packed. Eaten in breakfasts and
used in toasted sandwiches or on baked foods in the
same way as mozzarella cheese. Fresh White Cheese
is salty and made from unpasteurized sheep milk.
Fresh White Cheese (Beyaz peynir), Kashkaval and Mozarella
Cheese are produced in a variety of styles, ranging from nonmatured cheese curds to a quite strong mature version. It is
eaten plain, for example as part of the traditional Turkish
breakfast, used in salads, and incorporated into cooked foods
such as pita and börek.

MILK
OLIVE OIL
Turkish Delight also known as Lokum has been a classical
dessert for North Cyprus . It is made from different types of
confection based on a gel of starch and sugar. The Turkish
delight comes in many forms and tastes which include
varieties of ; Pistachios, Hazelnuts, Walnuts and Dates. There is
also a general flavor added to the Lokum which is flavored with
rosewater, mastic or lemon. The product is then dusted in icing
sugar, copra or powdered cream of tartar giving it a fantastic
juicy taste.

HELVA
North Cyprus produces many types of healthy dried fruit and
nuts . The Dried fruits and nuts can be produced in different
types of ways effecting the products taste to stay fresh. The
main types of dried fruits are: figs, grapes, apricots and black
grapes. The nuts produced are: walnuts, pecans, cashew,
pistachio, peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts,
almonds, popcorns and raisins. The export destinations for
these products are; Turkey, Middle-East and UK.
North Cyprus Helva is a sweet crumbly dessert made from
the mix of processed Tahini and Sugar. Tahini is made from
Sesame seeds and is processed in to a fluid where Tahini is
formed. Tahini is then used in the production of Helva. Helva
has different contents which give the Tahini extra flavor and
makes each Helva have a unique taste. The many types of
Helva include; Plain, Chocolate, Carob Syrup, Pistachio, Rose
Syrup, Honey, Almonds, Walnuts, Peanuts and Helva which is
also specially made for Diabetics. Helva can be eaten with pitta
bread and once warmed it melts giving an outstanding taste.

DRIED FRUITS AND NUTS
There are 2 main types of Honey produced in different regions
of the island. The most common type of honey is the Oregano/
Thyme produced which is produced in the Karpaz Region.
The second type is the Citrus Honey which is produced in the
Güzelyurt Region which is famous with citrus production.
In North Cyprus Citrus/Bergamot, Figs, Tiny Aubergines
(Eggplant), Fresh Fleshy Walnuts, Watermelon or Pumpkins
are processed into jam. The fruits are soaked for two weeks
(depending upon the fruit) then boiled with sugar until the
correct texture is obtained. Majority of the honey and jam
exports are made to UK, Turkey and Middle Eastern countries.
CAROB SYRUP

TURKISH DELIGHT
Olive oil is believed to be responsible for a better health
and longer life to the people who consume it. The olive
tree is generally found scattered on uncultivated land,
steep slopes, rocky ground, or in residential areas. There
are more than 1,400 olive orchard owners registered.
In North Cyprus production of olive oil is a tradition for the
whole community and every person has at least one Olive tree
in their garden. The unique taste of the Cypriot Olive Oil is used
whilst cooking giving the food an extra taste.
Carob Syrup is a healthy type of drink used as a sweetener
in cakes, biscuits, milk or even ice cream. Carob Syrup is an
excellent tasting healthy fluid which improves health and blood
levels to increase. It also improves the function in the stomach.
The Carob Syrup has a unique characteristic because during the
early 50’s-60’s it had the ability to keep inclusion of any other
preservative ingredients in the product.
Pastelli is a traditional Cypriot sweet snack the main
ingredients include Sesame, Honey and Carob Syrup. Pastelli
is usually shaped round or rectangular . There are also many
types of Pastelli which include different types of nuts such as
pistachio and almonds. Each Pastelli is made from the mixture
of Honey and Carob Syrup and the wrapped in Sesame.
BAKERY PRODUCTS AND
FROZEN FOOD PRODUCTS
There are a wide spectrum of bakery products and frozen
food products production in North Cyprus. The primary bakery
products are; bread types, crumpets in thick syrup, kafes, cakes,
cookies, pastry types, melba toast, pita, tahini, phyllo and sweet
& salty cookies. The principal frozen food products are puff
pastry products, pizza types, pirohu, cigarette börek, stuffed
meatballs with bulghur and lasagna.
Generations of Turkish Cypriots have made drinking coffee a
type of a tradition and a way of living. Due to new developing
technological methods Coffee produced in North Cyprus can
be produced in many different types of roasting techniques .
The formation of new coffee techniques such as, light roasted,
medium roasted , double roasted, decaff, filter coffee and
espresso are being produced. As the roasting level increases
in the coffee the taste in aroma forms a more unique and
lasting taste. As North Cyprus Coffee is popular it is exported
to many destinations worldwide such as; UK, Turkey and the
Middle-East.
ESPRESSO
Espresso is made by brewed coffee beans and the mixture of
water. The Espresso coffee is usually placed in a small cup due
to the strong rich taste it is not appropriate for a regular sized
mug. The espresso coffee is mainly formed by 1 to 2 oz. shot
of pressure-brewed coffee using around 1 Tablespoon of finely
ground coffee with hot water. To make espresso you need to
have a espresso machine.

taste in mouth after drinking. The quality of the tea is
exceptional and still the prices are relatively lower than
the international market giving North Cyprus a competitive

the Middle- East.
FRUIT JUICE
Since the island is famous for the citrus and other fruits, many
types of fresh fruit juice can be produced. Concentrated and
Fresh Fruit Juice are produced without added sugar with 100 %
fruit inside. There are also nectars produced from Apricot, Sour
Cherry, Peach and Grapefruit. UHT production of fruit juices are
done by many companies among North Cyprus.
WATER
As you all know water is a very important factor in a human
beings life. As North Cyprus is an island it is surrounded by
sea so the environment places a huge role in the production of
water. The untouched island has a very clean environment as
well as the usage of high technologymaking it different from
the other waters produced around the world. North Cyprus
Produces Water with the newest technology ready for the
domestic market usage as well as exporting.
SODA WATER AND OTHER FIZZY DRINKS
Fizzy Drinks like Plain Soda water and Soda water with other
fruits flavors like cherry, strawberry, apple, tropical fruits is
produced in North Cyprus with extremely hygienic conditions.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Turkish Raki
Raki is one of the most popular spirits in Turkey, Bulgaria,Greece,
Middle-East, Albania, Bosnia, and other Balkan countries. There
are many similar drinks just like Raki named ; Pastis, Ouzo,
Sambuca, Arak and Aguardiente. The main ingredient used
to make this spirit is aniseed and grape pomace. This spirit
is mainly served next to grilled barbeque, seafood and meze.
Raki is traditionally produced by twice distilling grape pomace
in traditional copper alembics and flavoring it with aniseed.
Wine
The Mediterranean climate is also very suitable for growing
grape vines giving them a different taste when comparing to
other wines in the surrounding regions. Quality wine production
has increased with more investments in this sector. Most of
the vineries are boutique and products are high quality.
Brandy
Local Brandy is one of the most famous drink in the island.
People of North Cyprus also enjoy North Cyprus Brandy at the
dinners.

Main products produced in this sector are Pebble, Mosaic

Gypsum Products
There are 22 different ore beds in North Cyprus. In Cyprus
Gypsum Board primarily used as a finish for walls and ceilings;
known in construction as drywall, plaster ingredient and
fertilizer and soil conditioner.
Aluminum and Glass Products
Aluminum windows-doors, shutters, fly screens (Teflon nets),
aluminum balustrade, panel doors.
Undercoat & Isolation Materials
Main products in this sector include: Special adhesives for
installation of faience, ceramic adhesive mortar, liquid additives
for cement waterproof plaster, non-cracking, non¬-shrinking,
non-blistering last layer, cement based, powder silicone
adulterated and invent fibers string surface covering material.
FURNITURE
With the latest technological equipment and the experience of
the local furniture producers, North Cyprus furniture industry
produces one of the best quality furniture in the Eastern
Mediterranean. Production can be done in all sizes, shapes,
types and colors. The exports of this industry is increasing
each year with more investments and increased capacity
and technology. Production areas: Living Rooms (Sofa Sets),
Bedrooms, Mattress, Kitchen set (wardrobe, cupboards &
doors) Furniture Fabric, Boutiques (Mirrors& shelves), Garden
