CAUTIONS:
•Do not perform operations with power on the unit.
•Use of a grounding strap when handling the PCB and removing the chips is
necessary.
•Use of a PLLC extraction tool (available at RadioShack- Model 276-2101) is recommended for
chip removal.
•Replace screws by hand and be careful not to over tighten the screws.
Remove lid

Push in tabs for battery pack
cover. Remove cover.
Remove batteries from the unit.

Determine the type of unit for
Disassembly
If there are screws in the location
with the circles:
Go to Page 4
(Note: Some units may not have the small screws in the
handle.)
If no screws in the
circled areas:
Go to Page 5

Carefully lift up on the back lid.
Disconnect the battery plug.
Remove the 12-14 screws.
Slowly lift the speaker housing.

Unplug the speaker.

Remove the 8 screws.
Use small screwdriver to push in tab. Begin to separate one side of the unit, then
push in the tab on the other side and carefully lift the cover.
Disconnect the battery
plug.

Slowly lift the speaker
housing.
Unplug the speaker.

Remove the PCB.
Using a PLCC extractor tool, remove
U2 and U3 from the board. If an extractor tool is

out by alternating corners until chip is free.

Noting orientation, replace U2 and U3.
Dot on chip is placed over mark in
socket. Flat edge of chip matches flat
edge of socket.

Replace the PCB and 8 retainers. Be
sure the rubber gasket is in place.

Replace the speaker
housing.
Plug in the speaker.
Replace the back lid, tucking in the gasket
the whole way around the unit. Reinstall
8-14 housing screws and battery cover.

Replace the battery
connector.
Using wood sticks or small flathead
screwdriver, lift one corner of the label. Peel
off gently. Use alcohol to remove any residue.

Label Removal And Replacement
Remove protective cover from window.
Place new label starting on one edge and
working to the other side. Smooth down.
