This festival is the greatest in Osaka boasting of a history
of a thousand years. In the Hommiya (Main day) on the
25th, the Rikutogyo starts from the shrine at about 15:30,
and finishes in the shrine again through the Funatogyo.
The festival reaches climax during that passage.
The Tenjin Matsuri Festival with approx.
4,000 fireworks set off in the summer
night sky.

Hiranogo Summer Festival

announcing the coming of mid-summer. Nine
floats compete in a pulling contest on both the
12th and 13th. Don't miss them entering the
shrine on the night of 13th. Rituals such as a
parade of portable shrines are held on the 14th.

Ikutama Summer Festival
Following a lion dance and portable
shrine parade in the evening, the
festival's climax is an offering parade
of soul stirring Makura Daiko. The
Makura Daiko falls right and left,
while worshippers wearing red caps
beat their drums in unison.

Summer Fiesta in Minoh Park
2015-Festival of Fire, Water and Light
During the festival period, the Minoh Waterfall will
be illuminated, creating a cool atmosphere that is
different from usual. On July 18, the event "Minoh
Candle Road 2015" will be held, in which 6,000
candles will beautifully illuminate the Minoh
Waterfall, Minoh Park, and the road leading to the
waterfall.

Taikodai Festival
A festival featuring the "Yukata"
(traditional Japanese clothing) in
the city of Osaka. The main event
"Bon-Dance", one of many traditional
Japanese dances performed in
s u m m e r w ill b e h e l d a r o u n d a
Yagura" (wooden scaffold). Since
the dance steps are very simple,
anybody can participate it
with/without wearing Yukata.

Terakata Chochin
Bon Dance
Terakata Chochin odori (Bon
dance) is a folk entertainment
of Kyu-minamiterakata area of
Moriguchi city, which started
in Edo era. It is particular that
people hold a lantern and
dance with the musical accompaniment that uses the Japanese drum
with the Kawachi ondo (Eastern Osaka style bon dance) music. This bon
dance was nominated as a city's intangible folk cultural assets in 2000.

Soemon-cho
Summer Festival
A charming summer festival
held in the entertainment
quarter of Minami.
Events include the final round of
the Miss Soemon-cho Contest
that the winner of which will be
the symbol of Soemon-cho; an outside live stage; and a Kamigata
traditional art performance. An elaborate stage and outside beer-hall are
joined by special stalls of the famous shops of Soemon-cho.

Sumiyoshi Festival
Daigaku Festival
A highlight of this festival is
nagoshi-harai-shinji ritual held on the
31st. In this ritual, nagoshime women
and children in costumes of the
Muromachi period (14-16th century) go
through a large ring made of thatch.
Visitors can also participate in this
ritual to wish for good health.
The "Daigaku", the only one existing in
the city, is made of 79 lanterns hung
from arms standing on a pole. A
mid-size Daigaku is carried in the park.

The tunnel will be 27-meter long and
the Milky Way made with brilliant LEDs. If you walk through the bamboo
grass tunnel decorated with tanzaku (colorful strips of paper on which people
write their wishes), your wish might be heard by the stars. During the period,
the venue will be lined with street stalls. There will also be various events
and a fire ritual will be held on July 7 at the temple to burn the tanzaku.
