WHERE IT IS
The Marche: Italy’s most varied and yet most typical region. Situated between the Apennine
Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, between Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo, the Marche offer all of the
characteristics of the Italian landscape. The people therefore describe them lovingly as “the whole of Italy in
one region”.
Ancona: capital of the Marche and bustling seaport. A city on the second glance, Ancona will soon
reveal its secret charms: the Duomo di San Ciriaco - the city’s cathedral built in the Romanesque and Gothic
style - that towers precariously above the harbour, or the Arch of Trajan amidst the ancient docks, which
were founded by the Romans in 278 BC. A walk up to the cathedral with its stunning view over city and port
is well worth the while. It will lead you through the former Jewish quarter, up narrow winding streets and
flights of steps, past ancient trading houses and palaces.
Sirolo: the pride of the Adriatic Coast. This idyllic town is located 12.5 miles south of Ancona on the
southern ledge of Monte Conero (1877 ft) on a picturesque hill directly above the sea. With its white, narrow
alleyways and its tree-lined piazza that seems to reach out over the sea Sirolo is a gem among Adriatic towns.
Enjoy the breathtaking view of Monte Conero and the sea during the day and the gentle sea breeze at night preferably with a refreshing aperitif.
La Riviera del Conero: one of the most beautiful bathing resorts of the Adriatic. White, sandy
beaches nestle against the steep coastline of white limestone cliffs. They have remained largely untouched by
buildings and other architectural intrusions. Le Due Sorelle (The Two Sisters), two bizarrely shaped rocks
jutting from the turquoise sea, are the popular symbol for this area.
THE CASA ANCARANO
This former farm is situated on a hill in the nature reserve of Parco del Conero. It is open on
all sides and ideally suited for families and groups of friends of up to 8 people and all those
who delight in large gardens, lots of space and the quiet peace of the countryside. The house,
built from the traditional white rock of Monte Conero, is surrounded with a garden that covers an area of 1.2
acres and is completely shielded from outside views. The garden has its own vineyard, fruit and almond
trees, pines and olive trees. From its historic threshing ground you will have a wonderful view over the hill
country of the Marche with its villages and towns that sit majestically on the hills’ tops. On a clear day your
view will reach up to the mountains of the Apennines.
The furnishings of La Casa Ancarano have been kept simple but they were selected with loving care and a
keen eye for atmosphere. The guest area consists of one central sitting room, three double bedrooms, one
single bedroom, two bathrooms, a TV set with satellite television, a washing machine and a large and fully
equipped kitchen. A grill for barbeques on mild evenings is also at hand. In the garden there are tables,
chairs, sunshades, deckchairs and a hammock, plus, for our little guests, a swing. And hidden between
oleander bushes and almond trees there is an open shower that will refresh you splendidly on hot summer days.

The area offers ample opportunities for hiking. Directly from your doorstep rambling paths lead into the
Mediterranean Macchia and the Parco del Conero. This nature reserve covers an area of more than 23
square miles full of forests, ravines and plateaus, and, of course, there is the Monte Conero to climb,
rising spectacularly to a height of 1877 ft above the sea. The views from there will take your breath away.
For those more into horse riding a short walk will take you to the stables of Il Corbezzolo (0.6
miles) where you can either rent a horse and take part in wonderful excursions or take some riding
lessons.
Cyclists will not only enjoy the paths of the Conero reserve but will find many challenging courses within
easy reach, ranging from mountain biking on the Gran Sasso to the panoramic road from Sirolo to
Ancona with its many gradients and bends.
Golfers will find their pleasure ground at the Conero Golf Club, an eighteen hole Championship
Course, par 72 plus Executive Course. It is practically just in front of the door (0.6 miles).
The most beautiful bathing beaches of the Riviera del Conero are only a short drive away (2 miles).
Year after year these white beaches with their turquoise coloured water are awarded with the “Bandiera
Blu” by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) for their outstanding quality of water. The
closest beaches are those of the Spiagge Urbani of Sirolo; for families the broad sandy beaches between
Numana and Marcelli are more conveniently located.
The small marina of Numana (2.2 miles) is the nearest mooring for any yachtsman apart from Porto
Novo and the yacht harbour of Ancona. There you can also rent motorboats or embark on a wonderful
sightseeing trip along the fissured coastline to the Due Sorelle.
For those who wish to brush up their Italian or attend an intensive course individually tailored to their
needs will find the Centro Culturale Conero in nearby Camerano (2 miles) an ideal language
school - competent and with an informal and very friendly atmosphere.
HOW TO GET THERE
By car Take the Brenner Pass and head for Bolzano, Modena, Bologna and finally Ancona. Exit at “Ancona
sud/Osimo”. Follow the signs to Sirolo. Shortly before Sirolo the road becomes narrower and leads up from a
double bend into and through the village of Coppo. There is a bar on the left hand side, after which you will
have to turn left into a narrow, single-track road that leads up to Monte Colombo. Follow this road until you
reach a narrow crossing and turn left. You have reached your destination with the third building on the left
hand side. Benvenuti alla Casa Ancarano!
By train During the summer period there are always special offers and connections to Ancona. From
Ancona station you can either rent a car or take a taxi or bus to Coppo/Sirolo (app. 8 miles).
By plane The Raffaelle Sanzio airport of Ancona is about 16 miles away. There are many flights via from
major European airports. There is a bus from the airport to Ancona train station or you can rent a car or take
a taxi.
