Whispers of Spring and Hopes for Summer on the Lake folks who haven’t been around for months.
Christine Sharlow
It has been a fun winter, for sure, but I am looking
For thirteen years, spring has been ushered in, here forward to the first seagull cry and the smell of the first campon the lake, with the gleeful sounds of the Annual Easter Egg fire for 2013! (Of course, no burning till after May 15….)
Hunt at the Copley House. Hosted by the Lyme Community
Foundation, children and families of all ages dart across the
lawn, in search of those illusive “prize eggs.” It is all in the
name of fun and celebrating Easter as a community. A special thanks to the Dollar General, who donate a good share of
the prizes each year, to the volunteers who work tirelessly to
prepare the eggs and baskets, and the bunny brigade who
hide the eggs. Families look forward to this fun and free
event every year. (For more pictures, log on to the Lyme
Community Foundation’s Facebook Page.)
That being said, we have seen other tell tale signs
of spring, such as plump robins, open water, and tiny crocuses peeking through (sometimes snowy) flower beds. Before we know it, we will be unearthing gardens, and raking
debris from winter winds. Soon the familiar roar of
lawnmowers will fill the air, along with the sweet smell
of freshly-cut grass.
We will soon be welcoming our summer
residents, as they return to open their cottages and
camps. Our streets and stores will begin to fill up as
we both witness and experience happy reunions with

From The Building Office
Spring is on its way and for many of our residents it means the
beginning of a new building season. As a reminder to all our residents and local contractors a Zoning and Building Permit is required for most types of construction and change of property use
projects.
Some examples are:
 Some types of remodeling
 New construction
 Roof replacement
 Fence construction
 Heating equipment installation
 Demolition.
Please check with our office for further requirement information.
The good news is that the Town of Lyme will now be responsible
for conducting and enforcing the New York State Fire Safety and
Building Codes locally! Residents and contractors will not have to
travel to Watertown to obtain their Building Permits or arrange for
Inspections.
As your ZEO/CEO I am always available to assist our residents
and contractors in making sure that your building projects are safe,
successful, and code compliant. When you “Build to Code” your
project will be safe, and have lasting value.
Our regular office hours are: Tues. & Weds. from 8:00 AM to 12:00
Noon or by appointment. My cell phone number is: (315) 777-6115.
I look forward to serving or residents and contractors in this special
place we call Paradise: “The Town of Lyme”!

invites you
to join us as
we come
together to
support the Miracle House, a
non- profit charity, that provides
housing, meals, and advocacy
to caregivers and patients coming to New York City for critical
cancer – related medical treatment. In memory of John, we
are coordinating our 5th fundraiser; Golf Tournament /Car
show/Craft show/ Raffle in
order to raise monies for Miracle House and for families who
are experiencing similar circumstances to those that we have
undergone in recent months. It
is our hope that your organization will embrace this challenge
along with us.
Miracle House did
indeed provide a miracle for
John and several of our family
members. After a diagnosis of
cancer, he was referred to a
specialist in New York City.
Initial anxieties of the expenses
related to a long stay in NYC
were alleviated by
the knowledge that
Miracle

would
help. Often individuals in our
area are referred to NYC for
treatment and Miracle House
offers very affordable housing
and support during this most
difficult time. If you are interested in more information on
