faith house - Frederick Rescue Mission
annual report
Dear Friends of the Frederick Rescue Mission,
Changing lives now and for eternity is at the heart
of the Frederick Rescue Mission. On October 5, 2014
I came to realize how we at the Mission deal with
life and death everyday. My 26-year-old son Nathan
was killed by a drunk driver. He was father to his
newly born daughter for only 26 days. All because a
seventeen-year-old was in bondage to alcohol.
We have over 70 men that come to the West South
Street Campus (Beacon House) for help in fighting
addictions and bad life decisions. They come for
change - a new life. That is what we offer. A change
that could and does change lives. It is a matter of life
and death even eternity.
Yet change has to start at a person’s point of pain.
Over 135,000 meals were served in 2015 and over
70,000 visits were made to our Food Distribution
Center. When you see someone standing in line for
two hours for two boxes of food, you know you are
helping someone who is hurting. Lives are being
changed now.
Everyday, 365 days a year, men, women, and
children are being served with food, clothes,
teaching, and the Gospel.
million dollars. Not one single government dollar
was used to make this happen. God brought
together those with a need to those with the means
to meet the need.
There have been a lot of changes with the Frederick
Rescue Mission. In 2011, we opened a new building
addition that allowed us to reach more people more
effectively. In 2016, we plan to open Faith House,
a residential program for homeless women and
children and drastically improve the Bread of Life
Food Ministries with a new Food Distribution Center.
We are equipped to move into the future to change
lives and change destinies. This is possible because of
people like you who give, serve, pray, and advocate.
We ask that you join us and gather others with you to
impact lives of men, women, and children.
Paul in his letter to the Galatians states, “All they
asked was that we should continue to remember
the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all
along.” The Mission is thankful for all those who
make a difference and make it possible by their
love, commitment, and generosity!
In His Service,
Our whole goal is to find the greatest need and find
those who are most able to meet that need and get
them together. In 2015 over 35,000 volunteer hours
were given and 1,850 individuals, 125 businesses,
73 churches, and 66 private foundations gave 1.9

Changed Life
Recovery Program
(CLRP) is a Christ-centered residential life recovery program designed to help
men reclaim their lives following homelessness and/or addiction. What started
as a ten-bed shelter in 1964 can now house over 40 men in the year-long
program. In 2015, the program started to follow a five-track plan created to set
up each resident for long-term success in all areas of life.
Track 1: Recovery
Track 4: Life Skills
Residents attend AA Meetings, Celebrate
Recovery, Recovery Team sessions and InHouse AA Meetings
The Mission finds it crucial to equip each
resident with the necessary tools and
information in order for them to deal with
conflict, finances and other life issues in a
Godly and responsible manner.
Track 2: Spiritual
Residents pursue a relationship with God
through the Believe Series, Book of John
(read, write, evaluate and pray), Soap, and
leadership roles in Bible classes.
Track 3: Vocational
After 90 days, the Mission discusses possible
career options for the resident and partners
with Frederick Work Services to find career
opportunities for residents. For many
residents, they go back to school to obtain
a degree or GED. This track sets the men up
for success and stability after graduation.
Track 5: Personal Growth
This track encourages the men to challenge
themselves and to keep striving for growth.
The curriculum includes “The 15 Invaluable
Laws of Growth” and “Sometimes You Win—
Sometimes You Learn” by John Maxwell
and the men complete writing assignments
relaying what they learned from these
lessons.

GOING BEYOND CLRP
ED MCCARTHY
On December 30th, 2003 Ed McCarthy hit rock
bottom and was contemplating suicide but through a
discussion with his mother, he realized the only thing
left that could save him was God. Ed had heard of the
Mission through friends and decided to give it a try.
On the day Ed came to the Mission, he prayed for the
first time and this sparked a personal relationship
with God that would radically change Ed’s life.
At age 12, Ed started using and during high school he
turned to harder drugs such as cocaine. He grew up
without his father and his stepfather was an alcoholic.
Prior to his drug usage, Ed’s life was full of promise
with good grades and football recruitment from
Division 1 Colleges. However, the drugs caused a turn
for the worse. He pursued the Navy but was shortly
discharged and felt more than ever that his life was
“one disappointment after another”. Ed ended up at
the Mission due to many of his friends committing
suicide or passing from an overdose. On January 4th,
2004 Ed dropped to his knees in Chapel at the Mission
and decided to fully commit his life to God.
Twelve years later, Ed has a beautiful wife, Amy, and
two children, Joshua and Jenna. After climbing up
the electrical trade latter, he started his company
Redeemed Electric, Inc. Ed returned to football with
the Frederick Outlaws, a semi pro football team, and
ran in a few half marathons, 10ks and other races.
It is evident that God has his blessing on Ed’s life.
“The Mission has given me everything. It is the best
program anywhere with the best staff.”
jake sexton
Many of the CLRP graduates move on to wonderful
jobs outside of the Mission but one of our
graduates, Jake Sexton, decided to invest back into
the Mission as the Case Manager of the CLRP.
During his time in the program, he demonstrated
great leadership skills through teaching Bible classes
for residents and leading the mean through the
book Believe. He also displayed sound faith and
strong character throughout his time in the program.
2
FREDERICK RESCUE MISSION
For Jake, the Mission introduced him to having a
relationship with Jesus and he was recently baptized
at Frederick Christian Fellowship. “It is the most
important thing I’ve ever received,” Jake said. “I want
to show the world who I belong to.”
Jake is currently attending Frederick Community
College in addition to his position at the Mission.
We are thankful to see God’s blessing in Jake’s life
and look forward to seeing how God will use him.
faith house:
a place for
women and children
The Faith House Program is a 90-day, Christ-centered place for
homeless women and children in Frederick. The program will
meet participants’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while
promoting self-sufficiency, purpose, and hope. Faith House
will provide a stable home-like environment where women
will have the opportunity to move beyond homelessness for
themselves and their children. During the program, women
will focus on their spiritual, emotional, behavioral, physical,
and health needs. In addition, they will develop life skills in the
areas of employment, education, and housing. Each woman will
create her own Personal Development Plan (PDP) with a case
manager assisting her. This plan will entail strategies and goals
personalized for each woman’s path towards independence. For
residents who are engaged in their PDP, the program will allow
(as needed) two 90-day extensions.
Faith House looks forward to working with many outstanding
community partners in Frederick to help the women and
children of Faith House on the road to self-sufficiency.

compassion ministries
The Compassion Ministries encompasses many programs and outreach efforts including Food Services, Volunteers, and
Outreach Programs. Through the food services, the Mission provides breakfast and lunch for the homeless and working poor
totaling 137,000 meals served a year. This would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers serving over 37,798 hours
a year. Along with our volunteers, we have a Ministry Team that prays with our lunch guests, assesses their needs, and helps
connect them to organizations that can fill those needs. The Outreach Program provides Bible Studies, Healing Rooms, Shears
of Hope, Mighty Mondays, the Summer Enrichment Program, and other opportunities for the homeless and volunteers.

purpose has always been to
help those in need but also to go
beyond those immediate needs
by introducing guests to a God
that can radically change their
lives for forever. With numerous
supporters ranging from
volunteers to financial supporters,
the Mission thrived in 2015.
