great success and brought
many new friends to the
Growing Garden community.
We couldn’t have wished for
a more elegant setting to kick
off the first dinner of the
summer.

The season began on June
26th with CHEF KEVIN GIBSON of CASTAGNA, working
together with his wife,
Monique, to present a fabulous dinner in the exotic garden of GAY and STEVEN
NANCE. Plant expert and
writer SEAN HOGAN of Cistus
Design Nursery was on hand
as special guest. It was a
fabulous evening that even
the rain didn’t dampen!

On July 24th CHEF MARCO SHAW
of FIFE brought his trademark
blend of traditional regional
American cuisine featuring the
best of local foods to BELLA MADRONA, the garden of GEOF
BEASLEY and JIM SAMPSON with
garden expert LUCY HARDIMAN.
Guests toured this magical, five-
acre, 25-year-old garden featuring diverse and exotic plants, whimsical and
sophisticated art pieces and a natural
pond and water features - all of which
inspired a song by Pink Martini. Guests
were surprised to learn that even the
crayfish Marco served were local - from
Oregon's own Lake Billy Chinook!
Chef Marco serves his fabulous
bisque.

CHEF VITO DILULLO of CIAO VITO returned to us on August 7th at the garden and art studio of BONNIE MELTZER and RICHARD ELLMYER with
food garden writer VERN NELSON.
Inspired by the talent of Bonnie Meltzer in the shadow of her art studio,
guests experienced Vito's artistic passion for sustainable and simple Italian cooking. The dinner was held in
the midst of a mini, urban farm in the
heart of North Portland, where our
hosts grow much of their yearly produce.
Bonnie previewed plans for her latest
project- “Sustaining Change on the
American Farm”- sponsored by
American Farmland Trust and Maryhill Museum. Selected as one of only
a few artists, Bonnie will create a
special work reflecting her experiences observing a local farm family.

his kitchen on the
three-acre farm of
DAVID and SUSAN KOBOS.
Our special guest was
garden writer KYM
POKORNY. Guests had
free range of the farm
where the Kobos' raise
over 200 varieties of
vegetables, dahlias,
sheep, geese and
chicken.

led by garden celebrity Anne Jaeger.
