PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Even with the record-breaking heat “Sail Into Creativity” in San Diego was a success - vendors on the trade floor were
quite pleased with their sales, there were over a hundred on site registrations opening day, the Certification boards
were outstanding, and I was so happy to see how many Poinsettia’s attended. I shopped and shopped but still had
money when I got home! Both Karen and I had a run of good luck – we both participated in the “8 x 8 Challenge” at
the Chapters Gathering on Wednesday. One afternoon, Karen had no classes scheduled and went to a nearby casino
where she had some exceptional rounds of BINGO. I think she won enough to pay for all her purchases! I won one of
the silent auction pieces at the Certification booth and a watercolor painting at the Volunteer booth. I will bring them
to show & tell at the July meeting.
The banquet tables looked fabulous. It is always fun to see the talent and creative thought that goes into the table
designs. The table decorated by our chapter was one of the favorites. I got to sit with Pat Marler, newly installed SDP
President and Janet Mitchell, our May 31st guest paint-in instructor for the snowman glass block. We had some good
laughs and got to know each other. I hope you all made some new friends at the conference.
Flower Power Pot Luck will be June 9th at Terrie Busse’s house. Details and directions are featured later in this
newsletter. Terrie always has surprises and fun planned so bring your appetite, a favorite covered dish to share. There
will also be an OPTIONAL gift exchange – (hand-painted or hand made preferred). There is a committee to help Terrie
set up before the party and everyone is on the cleanup committee.
Our display at the Thousand Oaks library was really wonderful. I hope you all had a chance to go see it. We filled two
large cases with items painted by our members. The librarians received many lovely comments and hope to have us
back next year. Special thanks to Paula Armstrong and Barb Elman for helping Karen set it up.
The Garden Palette shirt by Janice Miller is our June 28th paint-in project and we will have Christmas in July when
Barbara Underwood presents Jillybean Fitzhenry’s “Candle Light Santa” July 25 th. The August 23rd Mystery Paint-In
will be here before you know it. Be sure to sign up with Karen right away so you don’t miss out.
It is time to get your entries ready for the Ventura County Fair and due to the party this month, we all have an extra
month to finish all our conference class pieces to share at the July meeting. So get your brushes dirty and
keep painting…..
