POTENTATE’S
MESSAGE
We are planning an appreciation dinner for our November Ladies Night (11-21) and hope to fill
the Temple to capacity! This has been a great year and I’m looking forward to giving special
recognition to some of the Shrine Clubs, Units and individuals who have worked hard to make
2013 a good year for Marzuq. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE mark this on your calendar and help
make this a special occasion.
Also, remember the Thanksgiving Boston Butt sale. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, please call
Ovis at the Temple at 385-3010. He will be happy to help you out. These Boston Butts are easy to
sell and Marzuq needs your help to make this last fund raiser of 2013 a success!
Don’t forget to pay your dues for 2014. If you haven’t received your dues notice,
please contact the Temple. Also, remember that December is the final stated meeting of the year
and our elections for officers. Your 2013 dues card will be checked at the door. If you haven’t paid
your 2014 dues by the stated meeting, you are welcomed to bring a check with you at that time if
you like.
We are looking to identify those in our Temple who are legacies (a Noble who either brought a
family member into the Shrine OR a Noble who was brought into the order by a family member).
The Shriners have a legacy awards program and we would like to recognize our legacies at the
November Ladies Night and Awards Dinner. If you are a legacy, please email me at [email protected] so I can order your pin and certificate.
Lastly, I want to personally thank those who worked so hard on behalf of Marzuq this year. We
could not exist without the commitment of the noble few that are so committed to the ongoing
mission of our great organization. To those less active, I challenge you to strive to increase your
participation in 2014. The true joy of being part of this organization comes from seeing the fruits
of our labors and the lives that are changed forever by Shriners and the Shriners Hospitals for
Children.
Yours in the Faith,
Randy L. Mullaly

This has been a busy month for me. I attended the membership seminar in Tampa with our Ill. Potentate as well as a High School reunion in Springfield, MO. I wanted to take the time to thank everyone
for allowing me to run our stated meeting last week. I look forward to the future of our temple.
At the membership seminar, a brochure was handed out stating: “It’s Time for Change”. The brochure
is on Shrine Membership and how our Ladies can help. Several of the suggestions were asking for your
ladies to get involved in learning about what our hospital story is, so they can spread the word. They
asked that they become knowledgeable about the kids that we help and what all can be done for the
kids. Other suggestions, is to hold a “Couple” mentoring program for all new nobles. Help promote
legacy with our sons, grandsons, brothers, etc. Help the men create new units and clubs that young
people want to be a part of. Also, promote family participation. Take advantage of the new civic parade
bylaw change allowing family participation in parades. I believe the biggest way our ladies can help is
through communication through the social media and possibly through the Shriners Village website.
Did you know these facts about Shriners?
Shrine membership: 296,876
Number of Temples: 195, located in the U.S., Canada, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, the Republic of
Panama and Germany
First Shriners Hospital for Children: Opened in Shreveport, LA in 1922
Number of Hospitals: 22 - 20 in the United States, 1 in Canada and 1 in Mexico
Shriners Hospitals for Children provide Orthopedic care, Burn care, Spinal cord injury care, and Cleft
lip and palate care.
Children helped to date: More than 1.1 million.
Toll-free patient referral number: 800-237-5055

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is almost at an end. We all seem to get busier this time of year, with families, church activities, holiday shopping and travel, and – oh, let’s not forget, Temple activities. Nobles,
we have our Thanksgiving Boston Butt Sale going on right now, with pickup scheduled for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at the Temple. Always delicious, the butts are only $30 each, and are ready to
eat when picked up (unless you’re like me and like them hot, in which case you have to heat them). They
make great gifts, or, if you prefer, you can join me in donating a butt to Project Annie, which feeds many
less fortunate Tallahasseans on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days.
If you don’t have tickets, or if you need more, contact the Temple office and they can get you the number
you need. If you are unable to get to the Temple to get the tickets, go ahead and collect the money for
the butts, keep a list of who bought how many, and call the Temple with the names and they can record
the names with ticket numbers, and provide you the numbers over the phone.
Nobles, don’t forget our last two Temple meetings of the year. This month, our last ladies’ night of the
year, has been designated “Awards Night” by Illustrious Sir Randy. Many Nobles will be recognized for
their dedicated service on behalf of the Temple. Come and show your support and appreciation. Our
December stated session will see the election of your Temple leaders for 2014. Please come and bring as
many with you as you can. Our Temple is moving in the right direction, and your Divan is committed
to continuing this trend.
In closing, let me again express my sincere appreciation in the trust you placed in me by elevating me
to the office of High Priest and Prophet. The rest of the Divan and I have worked tirelessly on a 5-year
plan developed by our Potentate to make Marzuq stronger and more financially sound, and each of us
is committed to continuing and extending this plan forward in the coming years. Happy Thanksgiving
and Merry Christmas from our house to yours.
Yours in the Faith,
Ben Hart

PIONEER DAY REPORT
The day started off with the paper crusade at our traffic light. The four corners
were covered by Illus. Sir Kieffer Lindsey, P.P.; Noble Joe Cook; Noble John
Barber; and Illus. Sir Troy Thompson, P.P. With a little help from Mayo Shrine
Club, the total collected was $400.00. During this time, Noble Steve Maples was
busy setting up the Car Show down at the County Sports Complex.
At 10:00 A.M., the parade started with Lady Becky on a red Mustang advertising
the Car Show. Followed by the crazy wheels from Perry (THEY ALWAYS
MAKE A HIT AT ALL PARADES), Noble Jimmy Smith and Lady Agatha
showed off their Go Cart with beads for the on-lookers. The Mayo “T’s” followed
Noble Calvin Cone, Perry Shrine Club President, in Steve’s Fire Truck, doing a
good job. Noble Joe Cook and the writer tried to keep up. Behind us was a
Beautiful Loud Hot Rod with Noble Marvin Buchanan at the wheel. A SPECIAL
THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK PART IN THE PARADE!
After the parade, the Car Show got under way with cars and vendor booths on
display. Noble Joe Cook and Ladies Jan Cook, Becky Maples, Mary Thompson
and Savannah Kohnke (a Rainbow girl from Tallahassee) served Hot Dogs and
Bar-B-Que cooked by Noble Steve Maples. Noble Wayne Winburn was under the
weather and could not help. Lady Ruth came by and made a donation since they
could not help. Noble Bob Mixon drove one of the Shrine vans and put it on
display. (THANKS BOB.) Noble Marlin Sanders (Lady Becky’s Father from
Morocco) furnished his Golf Cart for transportation during the show. (Thanks
Noble Marlin.)
A SPECIAL THANKS to all Nobles from Marzuq Temple for the help. Present
were Noble Lamar Bowden, Recorder; Noble Frank Bowden; Illus. Sir Kieffer
Lindsey, P.P.; Illus. Sir R.D. White, P.P. and Lady Linda. (They all Hold Green
Cards.) Again THANKS FROM ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE MAYO
SHRINE CLUB FOR THE HELP AND SUPPORT!!!

Marzuq Hillbilly Clan 121
It is fall finally, and every fall we Hillbillies celebrate with a party! Please mark your
calendars for the Annual Hillbilly Fall Bash on Saturday, November 9th, 6:00 p.m. Geoff
and Nancy Hunt have once again volunteered to host the party at their lovely home on
Centerville Road (across from Bradley’s Country Store). The Hillbillies will provide the
hamburgers and hotdogs, buns, condiments, soft drinks and tea. Please bring a dish or
dishes to accompany the burgers and dogs. Our wonderful Angel Band will be
performing for us on the back porch. This is a fun-filled evening that is anxiously
awaited every year. Thank you to Geoff and Nancy and the Angel Band. All Hillbillies are
invited and anyone who would like to become a Hillbilly and join this great group is more
than welcome. In fact if you just want to come celebrate a wonderful evening with music
and fun - please come!

Marzuq Clown Unit
What a year!
Dear Nobles,
Where has the year gone? It just seems like yesterday that we were kicking around
the idea of getting the clown unit up and running again. We did it! After several
meetings throughout the year we have finally revamped ourselves. There are still
several spots that we would like to fill and they have your name written all over them.
If you would like to unleash your inner clown feel free to contact any of the clowns.
Thank you for your support. Our t-shirt sales have started off with a bang. There are
still t-shirts available, so don’t be left out, get yours today! We will also be hosting a
shot-gun raffle. Tickets can be purchased from any clown or will also be available at
our booth at Bradley’s Fun Day.
Making you laugh is what we do. Hope your holidays are filled with lots of love and
laughter!
Sincerely,
Huckleberry

club is an endowment fund for the benefit of
the Shrine Orthopedic Hospitals
and Burns Institutes. Interest only
is used for operating expenses-the principal remains intact. Contributions are
tax deductible. A Certificate of
Membership, signed by the
Imperial Potentate, is issued to
each donor. Contributions may be
made by having a bequest in your
Will for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, or by
making a cash contribution now of at least $100.00.
Contributions should be sent to the Recorder, Marzuq
Shrine Temple, at Post Office Box 37130, Tallahassee,
FL 32315-7130.
This program started in 1972 at a time when
the Shrine was approaching one million members and if each member
would donate one hundred
dollars, there would be
one hundred million in
the fund…thus becoming
100 Million Dollar Club.
Marzuq currently has seventy
(70) members out of our total
membership. Would you like
to make a donation?
