POTENTATE’S MESSAGE
POTENTATE’S
Greetings Nobles, Ladies as well as our MESSAGE
Friends.
As we are preparing for the Imperial Session in Tampa, I am getting
excited about seeing friends and Nobles from around the world. They
have been such inspiration and source of encouragement. Hearing ideas from all over is awe inspiring. Here at Scimitar, we have some great
things going for us. Things that no one at the present time has going
for them. Without the commitment of having to be Masons first, we
have an unlimited access to Men of character. Men who can bring the
Shrine back to the great days of old. With the sale of the building it has
given us a great opportunity of redefining who we are, as what we
want to do. We can locate to an area that will give us great exposure.
We can change our fundraising efforts. We can create a new image,
renew personal commitments.
The building is only a tool, one that can be used in so many ways. We
can do activities to bring in members, keep members and raise our
philanthropic awareness, and raise money for our great philanthropy.
But we need to select the best tool for the job. We need your help in
setting perimeters for the tool. What kind of fundraising activities do
you want to do? Some temples make $30,000 on a spaghetti feed,
$100,000 on Chicken Tetrazzini Dinner. The building as well as the location make a huge difference in this.
Please support the Futures Committee in all that they are doing. Bring
ideas of activities that you would like to see at the temple, as they
make a difference as to what kind of building and location we need.
We are doing conference calls every two weeks or so as schedules
allow. We are making progress. We have a member from every club
and unit, so make sure your rep knows what you want them to know.
Once we have some of the perimeters figured out, then we will have a
building search committee formed to find the building.
We also need new members. Not for the dues money, and not for the
sheer numbers. We need the new life they bring, new ideas and new
fun. Our clubs and units are the lifeblood of the Temple. The leadership is working hard to ensure that the “Temple” is able to continue to
operate in the future. We can manage the budgets, investments and
such. It is up to the clubs and units to be the recruiting force, keeping
force and build the bonds that make 10, 20 and 70 year members.
Many times at the temple meeting we never see some of the new
members after they are brought in. So it is up to you, those who
brought them in to keep them, stoke the fire, to help them with
knowledge and friendship.
This is our time to shine! Our time to bring Scimitar back to life! It is all
up to you, the Noble, for you are the temple, not the building! Many of
you understand that the tools are only as good as the one who wields
them. A great carpenter can create a beautiful home using a vice-grip
as a hammer, but an amateur could not create a dog house with all the
tools of the trade.

DIRECTOR STAFF
Our unit is eternally grateful for Noble John Epps. He has graciously allowed us to meet
at his office with comfort and style. It feels like it is our meeting room. Thanks again
John!
The Bass tournament in April finished in the black. Our boat count was up from last
year, we had 29 boats. Winner had a 5 bass total of 10.4#, and Big Bass was 3.7#.
Crawdad, crawfish, crayfish, mudbug boil in May was great. It was a temple function,
but most of those who helped were members of our unit. Thanks to all .
Don’t forget CSSA in August, call Steve Sichterman to sign up, we need everyone to
help to make it a success.
Member Ricky Thomas is on the Futures Committee . He reports they are making progress on our future location. I’m sure he would share his knowledge with anyone interested.
Gun winners: April—Robert Jones—sold by Dewey: May—Christie Jones—sold by
Higgie and June—Bill Towler—sold by Cole. Tickets are $10 each—only 100 sold
REMEMBER: A person who feels appreciated will always do more that expected…...

NORTH PULASKI SHRINE CLUB
Did you know that the Rock Region Trollies were air conditioned? Well, you may have
missed the North Pulaski Shrine Club’s June meeting when we ate a Cregeen’s Irish Pub
and afterwards rode the trolley around downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock. The
driver gave us a guided tour. It was a great time.
In July we have changed our meeting night to July 26 to facilitate attending an Arkansas
Travelers Baseball game. The Travs will be hosting the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The
game starts at 7:10 PM and the gate opens at 6:10 PM. First Security Bank has graciously offered the use of their suite, so if you are afraid of the heat, you will be able to watch
the game in air conditioned comfort. Outside seating is also available on the box level.
Seating is limited so if you haven’t already signed up call Jan Diederich at (501)7530353. We must have your name on the list so your ticket will be waiting for you at the
“Will Call” window.
Our August meeting (on August 16th) will be at the home of Al and Connie Harkins,
2000 Canal Pointe, Little Rock, AR 72202. Directions are available. Again, call Jan
Diederich at (501)753-0353.
The September 20th meeting will be a the home of Gary and Wanda Dunwoody , 3803
North Hills Blvd., North Little Rock, AR 72116. More information will be available by
e-mail.
If you are not on the e-mail list contact Joe Diederich or Gardner Burton at (501)7530353. Or, you may e-mail Vickie Blackwell at [email protected].
Dear Nobles and Brothers,
We need to all of us to set aside our differences...Regardless If you “Do or Don’t” like
this year’s Potentate or last year’s, or next year’s or the years to come, whatever year
that may be .
Our job as Shriner’s is to support our Divan, help our Brother Shriners, and build our
Shrine Temple.
I didn’t say you had to like it, but support the Divan and their choices because we need
to all come together and make SCIMITAR SHRINE stronger. Ask yourself why did you
become a Shriner, to have fun, help kids, whatever you choice help to build on that
make that your mission.
I myself have been a Shriner for many years, and have held a number of appointed and
elected positions, and I have done the same as others by not supporting the elected
Divan or the Shrine Temple properly-and for all the wrong reasons. It hurts me dearly
to see what our Scimitar Shrine Temple has become.
So just think and talk to other members and to be able to turn Scimitar Shrine Temple
around. Think how great it would be to get back to those glory days of a few years ago.
Be the Shriner that you signed up to be, not the Shriners that we have become.
