400th Anniversary Commemoration in
Philadelphia, PA and the
2008 Pulaski Observance

Proclamation Ceremony at the Polish
American Cultural Center Museum, 308
Walnut Street, historic Philadelphia, PA.,
celebrating: 400th Anniversary of the First
Polish Settlers, 75th Anniversary of the
Pulaski Day Parade, and 27th Anniversary
of Polish American Heritage Month.
Winners of the annual coloring contest will
also receive awards. Everyone is invited.
Admission is free.
Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 5 to 8 P.M., 400th Anniversary
Commemoration of the First Polish Settlers in America, Polish
American Cultural Center Museum, 308 Walnut Street. Everyone is
invited. Admission is free.
Saturday, October 4, 2008, Pulaski Dinner Dance, Cocktails
5 P.M. - Dinner 6 P.M., Associated Polish Home Ballroom, 9150
Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia. For reservations call Polish

Sunday, October 5, 2008, 5:30 A.M., tune in to
the weekly Mass on WPVI-TV 6. Reverend Martin
Ivanovich will celebrate the Mass. St. Adalbert
Polish Language School students will sing Polish
hymns to mark the beginning of October as
Polish American Heritage Month. You can see
a rebroadcast at 10 A.M. on LaSalle University
Channel 56.

at the Kopernik Monument, Torun Triangle Park, across from the
Cathedral - 18th and the Parkway, Center City Philadelphia, PA.
Sunday, October 5, 2008, Pulaski Parade steps
off at 12:15 P.M. from 20th and the Parkway. Free
seating at Logan Circle in the area of television
coverage on WPVI TV-6, 12:30 to 2 P.M.
Maria Koleda, Polish American community activist,
will be the Grand Marshal of Philadelphia’s 2008
Pulaski Day Parade. See information about this
year’s Grand Marshal on this page. This year’s
parade theme is “Celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the First
Polish Settlers in America”. In 2008, Polonia also marks the
75th Anniversary of the Pulaski Day Parade in Philadelphia and
salutes all branches of America’s military in which Polish Americans
have proudly served since the time of the American Revolution.

2008 Pulaski Day Parade
Grand Marshal
Maria Koleda was selected the 2008
Pulaski Day Parade Grand Marshal in
recognition of her more than 30 years of
participation with the Polish American
Congress and its member organizations.
Since Maria immigrated from Poland to
Philadelphia as a young teenager with
her parents, Witold and Zofia Suchoicki,
and her brother and sisters, Maria
and her family proudly participated in Polish American community
activities. Maria attended St. Adalbert School, Nazareth Academy
High School and Immaculata University, graduating with a Bachelor
of Music Education degree. Maria and her husband Marek have
a son, Marek, and two daughters, Renata and Aneta. As a music
enthusiast and singer, Maria has served as the leader of the youth
choir “Pokolenie” and leader and singer in the Piast Band, and
continues to conduct the singing of 100 students of St. Adalbert
Polish Language School. Maria has been the president of the school
since 1996. Maria is also the Administrative Vice President at the
Philadelphia Warehousing and Cold Storage Company.
Maria Koleda is a long time member of the Polish American
Congress, Eastern PA District, its Youth Committee, Pulaski Day
Observance Committee, Polish American Heritage Month Committee
and a participant in various events sponsored by the Polish American
Cultural Center Museum in Historic Philadelphia. Polonia extends
congratulations to Maria Koleda and wishes her Sto Lat!

During 2008, the 400th Anniversary of the First Polish Settlers in
America, Polonia salutes Polish Americans and all proud men and
women, past and present, who served in the active, reserve
