Walk-For-The-Arts was a huge success
last year. PTSA earned almost $3,000!!!!
In total, MCAA PTSA collected $3,000.48 in pledges.
We spent $245.11 on the whipped cream and Kindle
Fire, so we profited $2,755.37!!! The winning class is
the 8th grade class (with $764), and they only had 6
students who participated. We provide an ice cream
party for the whole class. Here is the class breakdown:
7th: $582.98 (12 students) 8th: $764.00 (6 students)
9th: $543.00 (17 students) 10th: $545.50 (11 students)
11th: $317 (10 students)
12th: $228 (3 students)
Students earned a total of 43 pies!!!
59 students brought in pledges.

Parent Volunteer Guidelines
Since the first year of Marysville Charter Academy For The Arts, parents
have worked together on how to organize the volunteer hours that we
promised to provide to benefit the school and our students.
We have developed a variety of ways for parents to volunteer at MCAA.
Parents can choose the type of volunteers hours that they would most
like to provide. Fill out our “Parent Volunteer Survey” and return it to
MCAA’s office. Please check off the times you would like to volunteer.
We want to remind you of the what we have developed as a guideline
for our volunteer hours.
1.Minimum hours will be 20 per family per year.
Families may buy their hours for a rate as set by parents
at the September 9th, 2003 PTSA meeting of $10 per hour.
Families may not transfer or bank hours for other families.
Hours go to zero at the end of each school year.
2.Directors, or lead persons, of MCAA events will be responsible for
collecting records of volunteer hours. Directors will be responsible
for ensuring that all volunteers are accounted for and that the hours
recorded are accurate. They will distribute forms and guidelines at
the start of production to all volunteers and anyone requesting such
information. Hours’ forms will then be given to the PTSA Historian to
tabulate. Tabulation will be done on a monthly basis and made
available to PTSA officers and MCAA staff as necessary. Hours are
otherwise quasi-private data.
3.Hours will be posted with report cards or newsletters. Parents
will be regularly encouraged to give hours and will be advised as to what might constitute acceptable hours, e.g. driving kids to school
would not be, driving kids on a field trip would be. Awards for top
volunteers will be given during the Student Award Ceremony. Top
business sponsor should also be awarded.
Everyone is needed! How will you find out what you can do? Some
projects will have a large number of volunteers who wish to help. Some
projects will have very few parents who elect to help. Either the project
director/teacher will call you to coordinate how you can provide those
hours or one of our parents will call you with the same information.

Any students interested in being on staff for the Scribblers Literary Magazine needs to pick up an application in Mrs. Mejia’s room:

graphic editors, and submission readers! Please Apply!
Attention All Students!! Here is a couple of dress code rules that I feel
need to be addressed. First, shoes must be worn at all times inside and
outside the classroom. Second, shirts and dresses are to have straps
and should not show your undergarments. Third, shorts must have an
inseam of 3 inches or more and skirts and dresses must not be inappropriately short. Fourth, hats will not be worn indoors; this means classrooms and office buildings.
Please keep our campus clean!! Throw your trash in the many trash
cans around campus. If you see someone drop trash on the ground
kindly remind them to throw their trash in the garbage cans. Throwing
food on the ground is just like throwing wrappers on the ground and it
makes our campus look like a dump. Please do your part.
Skateboarders!! If you choose to bring a skateboard to school you
must check it in at the office at the beginning of the day and then you
can get it back at the end of the school day. It is just like students locking their bikes up at the bike rack.
District Office is off limits to all students during the school day. Under
no circumstances should there be students before, during, or after
school purchasing items from vending machines.
We are looking for some highly motivated male students grades
9th through 12th who are interested in helping other students. If you
think this describes you please come into the office and pick up a SWAT
(Students Who Are There) application and turn it back into the office by
Wednesday, Sept. 19th.
Need a place to after school? Go to the Allyn Scott Youth Center
(MYCC). It is a Monday through Friday free afterschool program from
3-6pm. Fun activities and homework help are provided. Any questions? Call 530-799-1776 to pick up a membership application.

Do you have any coins? Put some in the Ronald McDonald House
Charities box in the office! The change you give helps sick kids in the
hospital. It gives their families a place to stay so they can give their
child hugs, kisses and courage everyday.
The French club is ready to go! If you are in 2nd or 3rd year French
and wish to expand your horizons, language and enjoyment, come along.

Seniors: Friday, September 21st is the registration deadline for the
October administration of the ACT. See Mr. Pimentel for registration
and fee waiver information.College Information Day at Yuba College is

UC and several private universities will be attending. MCAA students
interested in attending should sign up in the office immediately. Space
is limited and priority will be given to 12th and 11th grade students.
Sign ups are now being taken in the office for college visits to CSU
Sacramento, UC Davis, and CSU Chico. Space is limited on these trips
and preference will be given to seniors and students intending to apply
for these universities.

Young People’s Theatre Workshops
Theatre is a life-changing experience for many children
and The Acting Company is proud to offer theatre workshops for young people ages 6-18 all year long. To register, simply call The Acting Company at (530) 751-1100 or

HOW TO AUDITION The Acting Company is proud to invite everyone to its auditions. We are a community theatre and we’re
always looking for new actors and actresses! Part of the theatre experience is learning about the audition process. Most roles are open
to all who audition. We post our audition dates at least two months in advance on this website, in our newsletter, in the Appeal Democrat
newspaper, on www.YSinfo.net, AM 1600 KUBA, and Comcast Channel 19. All you have to do is show up and fill out an information sheet.
The director will ask you to read from the script for the parts that you are suited to play. Sometimes you will be asked to prepare a song or
monologue to bring to the audition, but it is never mandatory. Our doors are open and we hope you will be interested in auditioning for an
Acting Company production. All auditions are held at the Acting Company Theater unless noted otherwise.

“Point System toward Selection of Outstanding Student Performers”
NOTES: The following will be the standard by which students will be awarded points in all departments in order to be eligible for yearly
spring awards for all-around top students or creative artists at MCAA. It is a list that can be changed or added to by a majority opinion approval by the teaching staff at MCAA. approval of points must be done by filling in a designated form signed by a teacher responsible for
the claimed area of participation. All forms must be turned in to Ms. Mejia no later than three weeks before the awards ceremony in May or
June of each school term. Teachers may turn in a form for projected to points to be yet earned in that coming three week period on spring

MCAA’s Service Seal Award System
Service Seal points are awarded to students performing a
service to the school and the student association during
9th-12th grade. Students who earn 1,000 points or more
receive special recognition from the school in the form of a
silver seal on your diploma.
Any student participating in fund-raising activities are
eligible for service seal points. The points are awarded in
the following manner: 5 points per hour, up to a maximum
of 50 points per activity. The fund-raising activity must be
listed on your service seal form and must be verified by
the fund-raising chairperson or designated school official.
Using the attached Service Seal Points description, indicate the activity you have been involved in on the Service
Seal form available in the school office. Complete and
return your form to Bonny no later than June 1st.

What is California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF)?
The purpose of the CJSF, a statewide organization of over 600
chapters, is to foster high standards of scholarship, service,
and citizenship on the part of students of California’s public and
private junior high schools.
Membership is an indication of high academic achievement
and offers opportunities for recognition. Qualifying members
can become Honor Members with special recognition.
Honor Members are students who has qualified and applied
for membership in CJSF in a minimum of 3 semesters while a
student in 7th and 8th grade. Honor Members receive an official
Honor membership pin. In addition, a gold seal with the CJSF
emblem is placed on the Honor Members Promotion Certificate.
Notification of Honor Membership is included in the student’s
permanent cumulative record.

the MCAA CJSF Membership Application available in the MCAA
office. Membership is not automatic and must be applied for

Planning for and Applying to College
The admission application filing period for all California State Universities (CSU) opened on
October 1. It closes on November 30. Seniors intending to apply to a CSU campus, especially if
Chico State is one of their choices, should complete their application as soon as possible during the
month of October. Go to www.csumentor.edu to start the process. To facilitate seniors accomplishing this, I will be meeting with them individually during the first three weeks of October to assist
and follow up with them.

PSAT Administration
Thirty MCAA 11th grade students will take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) on
Wednesday, October 17 from 8 AM to 12 PM. MCAA offers this test (at no charge to students) to 11th
graders on track to apply to four-year colleges in order to provide practice for the SAT and because it
offers several features to help students get a jump start on college planning and preparation.
PLAN and EXPLORE Administration
As part of MCAA’s efforts to create a college going culture and prepare students for admission to and
success in college, we also administer two tests to all of our eighth graders and tenth graders at no
charge. The EXPLORE test is a preparation test for the ACT college admission test normed for eighth
graders that also includes helpful information and direction on college majors and careers based on a
student’s interests. The PLAN test is a preparation test for the ACT college admission test normed for
tenth graders and includes helpful information and direction on college majors and careers based on a
