The AMTRAK train station is located in Downtown Altoona at 1231 11th
Avenue. AMTRAN is the public transit authority in Altoona providing local bus

Commuter airline service is available through the Altoona-Blair County
Airport and the University Park Airport.

Fort Roberdeau Historic Site
Fort Roberdeau Historic Site is hosting a variety of
new events in celebration of the 40th Anniversary
of the fort’s reconstruction! A formal dedication ceremony for the anniversary will be held on
Monday, July 4th. Admission will be free for the
ceremony and Independence Day celebrations!
Additional events will take place throughout the
season.

his is an exciting year for visitors to explore all of the new adventures in
Blair County, Pennsylvania! There are a variety of new things to experience at
a number of our main attractions. So come board the train, splash at a water
park, admire a historic mansion, celebrate the Bicentennial or ride the trails.
Your adventure awaits!
Everett Railroad (featured on cover)
One adventure takes you aboard a restored
steam locomotive! The Everett Railroad
Company is now running excursions on its
twenty-three mile rail network. The excursions
begin at a newly constructed old-fashioned train
station in historic Hollidaysburg. The train travels
through Pennsylvania’s countryside along the banks of the Juniata
River. Leading the way is Steam Locomotive number 11. The 2-6-0 ALCO was
constructed in 1923 and in the fall of 2015 returned to service for the first time
since 1973. The Everett Railroad operates a variety of excursions; most of
which are approximately an hour to an hour and a half long. Most are holiday
driven special events, though they do operate non-event excursions on
specified weekends.
Laguna Splash Water Park at DelGrosso’s Park
There’s a brand new water adventure at an area
amusement park! Laguna Splash water park
features a wave pool and lazy river. Laguna
Splash is an Italian themed Water Park and will
include a Leaning Tower of Pisa, tipping buckets
and vases as well as interactive fun! The park’s
expansion includes four new food venues for the
2016 season.

Baker Mansion
Baker Mansion is showcasing its newly restored
Double Parlor and Grand Hall. The details of the
restoration bring a realistic touch to two main areas
of the home. Research revealed several colors of
the period and the room was painted in shades
historically accurate to the era for a Greek Revival-style mansion.
The mansion was originally home to ironmaster Elias Baker and his family.
Baker Mansion is also inviting visitors to its brand new visitor’s center on the
grounds inside a building that will be open to the public for the first time.
Spray Park at Juniata Memorial
There’s a new place for families to go to cool off
on a hot summer day! The Spray Park at
Juniata Memorial offers an adventurous layout of
water slides, sprinklers and toys. Water flows out
of high pipes, a locomotive, a baseball glove and
a mushroom.
September 11 National Memorial Trail
The September 11th National Memorial Trail is
an evolving network of off-road multi-use trails,
greenways and scenic roads and byways that
link the three National Memorials that honor
those who lost their lives on September 11,
2001; the National September 11 Memorial in New
York City, the Pentagon Memorial in Washington D.C., and the United Airlines
Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The 1,140-mile
trail ties together existing trails along its route through Pennsylvania.

attractions as well as a variety of art and cultural experiences. Here
you will find the National Historic Landmark, The Horseshoe Curve,
and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica, The Wall that Heals. You can
watch various performances at the Mishler Theatre, take in a ballgame
with the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, The Altoona

Duncansville, Hollidaysburg & Williamsburg
Hollidaysburg is the county seat of Blair County. The center of the
town is referred to as “The Diamond”. The famous toy Slinky is
manufactured in the town by Poof-Slinky, Inc. Both Hollidaysburg
and Duncansville are home to numerous antique shops. A trailhead
to the Lower Trail can be found in Williamsburg.

Martinsburg & Roaring Spring
Explore the countryside of Blair County by taking a drive through
Martinsburg & Roaring Spring. Both are located in a long bowl-like
valley known as Morrisons Cove. Along the country roads you’ll find
numerous produce markets, greenhouses and rural family farms
showcasing barns, crops and livestock. Agriculture is a major
industry in Blair County.
Roaring Spring is one of 3 paper mill towns in Blair County. The
town still showcases the Roaring Spring Blank Book Company
Building and Roaring Spring Water.

The trail follows the route of the Allegheny Portage Railroad tracks. The hiking sections
of the trail are located on or near the original route of the APRR. The bicycle section is
