History
The property was originally constructed
as a cinema in 1910 and was named
the Shepherd’s Bush Cinematograph
Theatre. The developer and owner was
Montagu Pyke who was an early cinema
pioneer and entrepreneur. The original
seating capacity was 900.
The cinema was subsequently renamed
the Shepherd’s Bush Palladium and then
in November 1923 the building reopened
with 763 seats as the New Palladium.
During World War 2 the building narrowly
escaped being hit by a flying bomb,
which in 1944 hit the neighbouring
Shepherd’s Bush Pavilion, destroying the
original interior. The Pavilion did not reopen until 1955
The property stayed in cinema use
operating under various names – the
Essoldo, the Classic and finally the
Odeon 2 – until 1981 when it closed for
the final time.
Subsequently, the property was
converted to a pub/bar now owned
and operated by Intertain and branded
Walkabout, an Australasian-themed bar.

development has there are a number
of other major schemes nearby or in
the pipeline:
BBC Centre
Shepherd’s Bush Pavilion
The BBC Studio, on Wood Lane, has
recently been acquired by development
company Stanhope who are working
up a major redevelopment. The current
proposal, expected to be completed
in 2020, comprises a mix of leisure, retail
and residential uses including a new
50-bedroom boutique hotel
and over 1,000 new residential
apartments.
The adjacent Shepherd’s Bush Pavilion
is a Grade II listed building, formerly
a cinema and bingo hall. The Pavilion
closed its doors for good in 2001. In 2009
planning permission was granted for
conversion into a luxury hotel. Demolition
work began in 2012 and the re-built midmarket hotel, to be called the Dorsett
Regency, is due to open in 2014.

WEST 12
There is a major redevelopment planned
of the Shepherd’s Bush Market. This
development will see several market
squares created alongside 212 new
residential units. The market squares will
feature different types of national cuisines
and accommodate pop-up shops and
temporary trading space for start up or
small businesses.
The West 12 shopping centre boasts over
30 major occupiers comprising a range
of retail and leisure outlets including a
Vue Cinema, IBIS hotel, JD Wetherspoon,
Pizza Express, Fitness First and a variety
of high street retailers.
