How We Met
Jed and Rachel first started noticing each other when Rachel accepted a
part time position as a waitress at Beef 'O' Brady's in Estero, Florida. Beefs,
as it is locally called, is a sports bar that Jed would frequent to watch the
games with all of his buddies. According to his friends, he would tell them
that Rachel was the type of girl that he would be interested in. Even though
Rachel thought Jed was good looking and very interesting, she couldn't
help but think he was a cocky ladies man and never paid him any attention.
Even though they saw each other often, neither of them took an
opportunity to speak to the other. However, all that changed when Rachel
went to the airport to rent a car from Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group. Jed
sparked conversation with Rachel immediately and from that point on, the
chemistry between them was undeniable. The next time Rachel saw Jed at
Beefs, she asked him when he was going to take her out on a date... and
the rest is history.

The Proposal
Jed and Rachel had been dating for about 2 years the Christmas of 2011.
They made plans to go over to her parents, Jim and Robin Battel's house
for an evening of holiday festivities with family. During the course of the
evening, Jed asked Jim if he could have a special conversation with him.
When the two had a moment to have a private chat, Jed asked for Jim's
blessing to take Rachel's hand in marriage. Jim happily agreed and told
Jed that he already felt like he was family and would love nothing more.
That night Jed and Rachel headed back to their home. He told Rachel that
she had forgotten to look in her stocking, which was confusing for her
since it was she, herself, who had filled her own stocking! Jed was
persistent, so Rachel got up and went into her stocking to find a jewelry
box. As she opened the box, she looked down to find Jed on his knee. He
took her hand in his, and asked if she would marry him. Rachel threw her
arms around him and immediately screamed, "YES!"
