1. Foreword:
Dear Customer,
You have purchased a CLEMENS subsoiler with vibrating share and you have therefore
decided in favour of a good solution for the long-lasting and thorough fracturing of
compacted areas in the subsoil.
With the CLEMENS subsoiler you will achieve intensive fracturing and thus optimum
aeration. As a result the maximum water storage capacity is increased and nutrients are
made more readily available again for your plants.
In order to be able to operate the subsoiler (with one and two shares) properly, safely and
correctly, this operating manual must be read before commissioning and the instructions
provided followed conscientiously.
Please study how to use the subsoiler before putting it into operation.
General note :
- The subsoiler may only be operated when all the protective facilities and safety-related
devices are installed and operable.
- Faults which may reduce the machine safety are to be rectified without delay by
qualified staff.

2. Machine description:
The CLEMENS subsoiler mainly consists of the following components:
- Frame
- Eccentric drive, for TLK-884 over angular gear
- Vibrating share
- Gauge wheel / land roller
- Jack stand
The two designs of the subsoiler (with one or two shares) are p.t.o. driven (max. 540
rpm). A vibrating share located at the lower end of the vibrating wing executes a rocking
motion while in the ground thus fracturing the soil.
The rotary motion is transmitted from the p.t.o. shaft to the vibrating wing by an angular
gearbox. The rotary motion of the cardan shaft is converted into a to-and-fro movement of
the vibrating share by means of an eccentric disc.
For parking after work, two plug-in supports are mounted on the subsoiler with one
vibrating wing.
One plug-in support is provided for the subsoiler with two vibrating wings.

3. Machine operation:
All maintenance and repair work may only be performed with the cardan shaft
uncoupled.
* Before initial commissioning:
- Check to see whether the length of the cardan shaft matches your type of tractor.
- Carefully study the operating manual of the subsoiler and familiarise yourself with the
operation of the equipment.
* Attachment to the tractor:
- The subsoilers are to be installed so that the frame is aligned horizontally. You obtain
this setting by adjusting the top link.
- The p.t.o. speed must not exceed 540 rpm. This is very important, especially with
tractors which are fitted with a replaceable p.t.o. shaft, thus enabling you to operate
equipment at a speed of 1000 rpm.
The subsoilers are only rated for a speed of 540 rpm.
- The p.t.o. should not be activated until the vibrating share is already several centimetres
in the ground.
- To obtain optimum work performance, the travel speed during operations should be
max. 4 km/h.

4. Maintenance and care:
The CLEMENS subsoiler is designed so that it requires a minimum of maintenance and
care.
However, the following points should be observed:
- After the first 5 hours of operation, all the screws are to be checked for a tight fit.
Afterwards check them every 10 hours of operation.
- Repair and maintenance work may only be performed when the cardan shaft is
uncoupled from the tractor.
- The subsoilers should be lubricated at regular intervals. This is primarily based on the
degree of use. If the subsoilers are used frequently and in very sandy ground, the grease
nipples should be lubricated every four hours.
A total of nine grease nipples are provided on the single-share subsoiler (TLK 883), one
of which is located on the bearing pedestal. Two grease nipples are located on the bearing
bolts. A total of five grease nipples are arranged on the eccentric and articulated joint and
one grease nipple is installed behind the guard on the eccentric drive.
- Only two hydraulic-type nipples are to be lubricated on the double-share subsoiler; they
are located on the left and right of the eccentric shaft.
- For raising the subsoiler with lifting tackle, we recommend the use of a commercially
available load belt to suit the load in question.
This load belt should be attached to the top link bolt and to the rear tie-bar. In the case of
the double-share subsoiler the load belt must not be slung around the two plastic guards
on the drive shafts as this could cause damage.
- The vibrating share and the point mount brackets of the subsoiler are replaceable. Care
should be taken to ensure that the points are replaced in good time so that the bearing
components are not exposed to wear. The special protective sleeves around the bearing
bolts should be replaced when a small amount of play occurs.
- The oil in the angular gearbox on the subsoiler TLK 884 is to be changed after about 200
hours of operation. (For oil designation and quantity, see section 6: “Technical data and
connections”)
- During cleaning with a high-pressure cleaner care should be taken to ensure that, if
possible, the high-pressure jet may not be aimed at the bearings or shaft seals of the
angular gearbox as this may result in damage and thus shorten the service life of your
subsoiler.

For repairs to your subsoiler, you should go to a specialised workshop or contact the
CLEMENS customer service.

5. : Notes on safety:
When working with the subsoiler, special requirements are to be placed on the
driver as regards safety aspects:
- Never allow the subsoiler to be used by anyone who is unfamiliar with the notes on
safety.
- No one may remain on the subsoiler during work or transport; this also applies to short
distances.
- During travel on public roads correct lighting of the subsoiler must be ensured in
accordance with the German Regulations Authorising the Use of Vehicles for Road
Traffic [StVZO] (especially at night). (Recommendation: Use light fittings which can be
removed!).
- Never crawl under the raised subsoiler!
- Repair work may only be performed when the cardan shaft is uncoupled from the
tractor.
- During work no one may remain within a radius of about 10 metres from the subsoiler.
- When the subsoiler is parked after work, it must be ensured that the support(s) is(are)
inserted and secured with locking pins. Moreover, the subsoiler may only be parked on
flat firm ground.
- The accident prevention regulations of the employers’ liability insurance association
must be observed!
