SAE OUTLOOK
With summer drawing to a close, grandkids going back to school, we are
looking forward to the fall.
Saltwater fishing is outstanding. Remarkably half day trips and threequarter day trips are catching yellowtail and yellowfin tuna. The autumn
season is expected to be one of the best on record. Incidentally the Senior
Anglers of Escondido (SAE) have a three-quarter day trip scheduled on the
Chubasco II for September 13. A few spots are still available. Contact
Barbara Gattuso at 858-774-6724 to reserve your spot.
During the past month Glenn Foss established a new SAE club record for the
largest White Sea Bass, weighing in at 50.5 pounds. This broke the club
record by more than 34 pounds. Glenn also caught the largest Class I fish
for the month of August. CONGRATS to Glenn.

OCEAN FISHING
The blue fin and yellow fin are biting on the local 3/4 day boats. Dorado are also being taken.
Our first all day trip August 1 was a very nice trip with calm seas and sunshine. Several yellow tail
were caught at the Coronado Islands along with a mixed variety of bass and barracuda. The Class 1
jackpot went to Glen Foss with his 18# yellow tail.
The Class 2 fish went to Bob Lage with his 70# Halibut taken from Queen Charlotte
BC. Congrats to both.
In July Glenn Foss caught this 50.8 lb. White Sea Bass on a 1/2 day boat.
SURF FISHING
Our August Surf Fishing outing was on Monday, August 8th, at South Ponto State Beach. Ken Harrison
and Don Continelli were joined by new members Ron and Iris Horak.
The conditions weren't too good. There was a heavy overcast that kept it pretty cool.
Ron started it off w ith a 2 oz. surf perch fishing an artificial sand w orm and Don follow ed up
with a 4 oz. perch using the same bait.
Our fish count for this season is about 5 - 7 fish and considering this is surf fishing, that's not bad.
September 12th Surf Fishing meets at 7:00 a.m. at Cap't Keno's, 158 N. Coast Hwy. 101, Encinitas, for
breakfast, then on to Cardiff State Beach, just south of the Chart House, near lifeguard tower 13.
WHITE SEA BASS HATCHERY
We are still signups for the Scripps Seabass Hatchery Tuesday September 6 at 10:30AM with an
optional lunch at Tip Top following the tour.

FISH FRY
The Fish Fry was a big success. Close to 60 people enjoyed a lovely evening, with nice weather, good
food and company. Thank you much to the Farrar’s and Skaja’s for their great job in organizing
and creating such a special event. Gary Farrar made these great wooden fish for decor and some lucky
people got to take some home. Also, thanks to all those who helped in so many ways, including set-up,
cooking, clean-up and bringing great side dishes and desserts. Its always a team effort.
