“China is the moving market at the moment, for obvious reasons.
We have been talking to them and are hopeful they will turn up.
“The one thing we do rely very heavily on is our domestic market
and we look forward to welcoming everyone on to the Gold Coast,
domestic and international alike.
“Any new participant whether it is as a vendor or buyer is very

Both Westbury Stud and Bhima Thoroughbreds, meanwhile,
will be hoping to emulate the type of success previously enjoyed
by Coolmore and Arrowfield as they both prepare to offer their first
drafts at the sale.
Westbury Stud’s nine-lot draft includes five by first season sire
Reliable Man (Dalakhani) and the farm’s Russell Warwick told ANZ
Bloodstock News: “Given the fact the horse was held in the highest
regard by the Australian racing public, we believed it would be a wise
decision to ensure Reliable Man had a representation at the first of
the Australian sales.

ARROWFIELD STUD
Like Coolmore, Arrowfield Stud paid tribute to the work of Vin
Cox and his team, as they prepare to bring a large draft to the sale,
their 48 yearlings eclipsed in size only by the 78-strong Baramul Stud
draft.
The farm’s bloodstock manager Jon Freyer told ANZ Bloodstock
News: “Our view of the 2016 sale’s prospects is best measured by
the size of our draft, the largest we’ve sent to Magic Millions in recent
years.
“The company’s constant efforts to develop the sale, the raceday,
the buying bench and the overall event have cemented their position
in the marketplace, and expanded the range of horses we want to
offer on the Gold Coast.
“A highlight for us will be presenting seven of Animal Kingdom’s
first yearlings, all with his quality and athleticism and including a halfsister to Raphael’s Cat and a grandson of Alinghi.

the years. The opportunity to showcase a select draft of yearlings
by a high profile freshman sire like Reliable Man should create good
interest amongst buyers and set a good introduction for our New
Zealand consignment heading to Karaka in late January.”
Mike Fleming of Bhima Thoroughbreds also praised the
strength of the buying bench at the sale and told ANZ Bloodstock
News: “It’s always a very strong sale being the first of the year;
everyone is there.
“For Bhima selling under a new banner, moving on from
Broadwater, we have tried to really put a draft of horses together that
will really suit that sale and what people go there to buy.
“I think it is probably the fastest moving sale in Australia at the
moment. With the strength of the middle market, it seems to be
the shopping ground for a lot of the domestic trainers. I don’t know
whether that is a combination of it being the first sale of the year or
the type of horses and the catalogue they are putting together.”

“Having worked closely with the Kolivos family to broker the deal
for Coolmore to purchase Pierro, he is obviously a horse who I will be

he is an exceptionally exciting young stallion who exemplifies what
Australian racing is all about.”
